Hey all,

I am just getting back into Mordheim after a 6 or so year leave of absence. I'm sifting through all my old homebrew content and I'm realizing just how many hired swords are floating around out there.

What list of hired swords does your group get to pick from? Do you use any that someone brings in? Do you specifically ban any? Do you limit them to certain sources (LRB + TC?)?

Thanks,
Vivanter

With so much great added content we just discuss whatever a player may want to use. We would probably allow anything from Town Cryer. We stay within a lore reasoning and follow existing rules where we can. No elves hired for Dwarf Treasure Hunters, no magic-users for the Witch Hunters, etc. No one has wanted anything that we feel is overpowered.

We also encourage players to have a back-story for their warband and hired swords. In our campaigns we normally see Ogre Bodyguards, Pit Fighters, Elf Rangers, Dwarf Slayers. All from base Mordheim rules. Then a Witch (as a dwarf alchemist) and a Bounty Hunter being prepared. These are from the Fortune Hunters article, not sure if this is official but I think so. Looking at Warrior Priest of Sigmar too from TC.

Haven't seen anything we have felt needed to be outright banned yet. The Ogre and Pit Fighter that is always hired by our Middy player always dominate, if I could only convince them to ban those... Rolling Eyes

Welcome to the forum!

Werekin over at Liber Malefic (http://libermalefic.blogspot.com.au/) has put together a large compilation of Hired Swords for the setting that he is working on called Mutiny in Mariengbug. It contains most (all?) of the Hired Swords from GW releases plus many other balanced Hired Swords from fans. It is not a full list but it is quite large and I would happily accept all of these in my gaming group.

He has also extended and standardised the list of priests that are available for hire although some of these have probably not been playtested extensively yet. I would *probably* allow all of these priests in my gaming group but I would watch them closely.

Thanks! That libermalefic link is pretty useful. I'm converting a whole bunch of new players, so I'm afraid an unguided discussion might not be fruitful.

Oh, also, one of our players is running Ostlanders. How do you feel about their ogres-only rule for hired swords? Is it essential for keeping them balanced?
