I hope to get at least a bit of action in tomorrow on this ship, especially since I bought a new pot full of PVA Well, I did find the time, and the PVA was put to good use! And this time around, the work we were able to get in really changed the look and feel of the ship, what with the last of the big blocks getting put into place : To-do-list : cannons, crows' nests and the rear part which I need to make from scratch as it is missing...

| For the next step, as it required quite a bit of precise exacto-work, I decided to start without the kiddies on friday evening, prepping for the joint effort we'd be putting in over the weekend. This is what I made : And since I had to combine 2 sheets of balsawood, I reinforced the underside thoroughly... And a dry-fit onto the ship : After that had dried, this is what we finished doing by the end of sunday : Part of the rear-deck planked out And why did we only plank it up halfway through? Well, because someone, or two someones actually dearly wanted to start working on the cannons. And of course I caved in... Cannons added on both sides... | |

| Thanks! It is indeed very satisfying, and I regularly pass by, just to have a look. And the kiddies regularly play with the ship and their Playmobile figs, which proves me that everything I've built sofar is quite sturdy. Just hope the paintjob will be up to par in non-chippyness | |

But not finished yet! We still need to make a ballustrade to keep the drunk pirates from falling into the deep blue.
But I have a smart and cunning plan for that, just wait and see. Hopefully I'll be able to execute it this next weekend (since it is a long weekend as thursday is a holiday here in Belgium)!

| Another weekend has come... Another weekend has gone... But we have advanced somewhat (what with the very sunny weekend, I had some problems getting the kids focussed, and I could hardly blame them ).. the end is in sight! First off, the planking is now entirely done on the poop-deck, and we started on the ballustrade And we added a very Mordheim-y piece of embellishment to the helm And to conclude, as usual an overall view | |

I really like the push pins for balustrade idea. I 'stole' the idea from the second Freebooters' Fate expansion, where they used this kind of ballustrades for their bayou-buildings. All they needed was a little bit of exacto-knife trimming at the top to even them out so I can glue coffee-stirrers on them later on. I've also got an idea to make the large, flat wooden area above the door and under the helm a bit more interesting too. And i'll be (again) using 40K bits for that, from a Rhino to be more precise. And yes, almost there... just need to finish the ballustrades, plank up the crows' nests, decide on how I'll be doing the sails, rolled up, or billowing in the wind and paint her up... Stay tuned, for there'll probably be more updates after the next weekend!

| Wow... 4 months since the last update already? I've been neglecting you guys! And my miniature endeavors for that matter... Blame the month-holiday I spent in the Algarve amongst other things... But I'm back in the game, and these last two weekends, I found some time to work on the ship with my sons again. First off, we finished the ballustrade and firmly glued the poop-deck into place We even provided a nice banner to put the ships' name on Then we proceeded to glue all small fiddly bits of the masts in place And we planked up one of the two crows' nests While waiting for that to dry, we rolled up and bound the sails into place And then, for the fun of it, and for that pleasant feeling of "we're almost there..." we put everything into place To-do-list :
- plank up the second crows' nest
- soak the sails in PVA to harden them out and keep 'm firmly into place
- glue the beams to the masts
- prime and paint this lil' gem

| WELCOME BACK! A real, get-away-vacation sounds like a WONDERFUL reason not to post here...I'd like to try that myself. Be that as it may, the ship is coming along nicely. She is LOVELY & will be even more so with a touch of paint. GREAT WORK! | |

| Welcome back! Good to see you back to work. Hopefully you didn't glue the masts on. The tallest one should be in the center. The one in the center should be the in the first position and the shortest (incomplete?) should be on the poop. The masts look really tall with the sails furled. I had considered cutting mine down to make them a bit more manageable. | |

| Cheers! The masts indeed will not be glued in place : ease of transport and storage... And thanks for the advice, didn't notice that... This better? Cutting down isn't going to happen, I had already had that very same thought about their height... But since I made two slots to fit 'm in manually as they weren't included in the box when it was gifted to me, I really don't want to go there | |

| LOOKIN' GOOD! I must admit that I didn't even notice the positioning of the masts...that's much better. I wouldn't mess with shortening them either; i.e., I would imagine having the spars higher up would make moving the minis around easier should you decide to keep the masts in place will the ship is being used. | |

| Great! Both the way it looks and the fact that you didn't glue them in.
I made the mistake of gluing a mast a decade or so ago. The ship is a pain to transport or store. Parts of the mast keep breaking off, but the glue on the base is rock solid.

| Wow I've been gone from this forum way to long, I didn't even notice this thread passing by. How's the ship doing by now? I hope she's painted allready Do you actually do naval battles too? I picked up a couple of pirate figures at Warcon last week and that got me excited about pirates... so yesterday I bought a wee little ship for myself, all i have to do now is wait for it to arrive. Maybe we can meet up sometime and have ourselfs some marine battles? | |

| Nope, not painted yet! She stands as is in the last piccie in this thread. I still need to plank up that last crow-nest and soak the sails in PVA to harden them out. Alas, I've been sucked into Sci-Fi lately and spent all of my modelling time on Relic Knights, Infinity and making scenery for those two. But, as you can read in this thread, I've been introducing my offspring into the hobby with some very simplified rules, so I will probably have to make work of finishing the ship quite soon, especially as it plays a key role in the game. They've been asking for a new game every day since sunday, when we had the game described in that thread Was it that baggie/box of Foundry (I think) pirates @ the second hand stand? It was severely tempting me too Or were it the Briskars which tempted you? In any case, if we can find a decent rulesset for naval battles, I'm all for a game. I've already tried a game once, but that was a complete and utter, neigh-on unmanageable, bore. I beleive it was the rules from "The Generals' Compendium" from GWS, but nor 100% sure about that... I am sure however that it were GWS rules. Oh, and if we're doing a naval battle, I want, correction, I need giant tentacles so we can have a Kraken join in on the fun | |

| I saw that thread to, seems like great fun to be able to include your kids like that.... some day... Well, your infinity scenery is very cool to! saw it on Warcon and I was impressed. I didn't notice a bag o' pirates in the second hand... after all it was pretty crowded... to bad. I picked up some pirates from ron & bones for a few euros from a trader Warboss kurgan (on this forum) does a lot of naval battles.. he sent me his rules some time ago, called Yarrpocalypse... haven't really played/read them yet. | |
