| Week 1Oh I've never hoist the main sail, and I've never swabbed the poop deck, and I've never veered starboard, cause I've never sailed at all, and I've never walked the gang plank, and I've never owned a parrot… and I've never been to Altdorf in the fall. Arrrrrr, we're back maties! We're back on the so-called Pirate isle; so-called 'cause there ain't been a deal o' pirating going on from here for the past year or so. We aim to make a change in that mind, so gather ye round and pull up a mug o' grog (not that one, that's mine!) and hear tell of piratical deeds of misadventure and misfortune. So, pretty much the usual really. As the autumn sunshine sparkles off the (distinctly sea-monster-filled) waters around our coasts the invasion fleets have gathered and disgorged their cargoes of soldiery. The Naval Alliance is still set on clearing the southern trade routes, while the Scurvy Dogs and the Corsairs just want to get back to the right and proper business of liberating passin' ships of their valuable cargoes. Of course the dastardly Davy Jonesers are probably plotting something most foul – damn their eyes: the place ain't fully recovered from their last lot of diabolical designs. ~ ~ ~ The little cliff-town of Roba was subjected to the attentions of several armies. Count Josef Henrich Varcolai's moldy minions battled Lord Lokay: his Wood Elves tried to fend off the putrescent pirates but the skinny tree-huggers was given a right good hiding. Roba ain't going to be sweet-smelling any time soon. A couple of new-comers to the island also scrapped it out in Roba, Tyrant Jayne and The Blue Sun Tribe fought two engagements, one against Dreadlord Ayanami's Slavers of Nagaroth in which he was victorious. The Ogre's second fight there was against Prince Robinet Puissant and the Troupeau à Ailes Royal. The Prince was triumphant but the Pirate Ogres didn't go down without a hard fight. Tyrant Ikrim Elfeater and his mutated masses were busy as usual: They fought Captain Zarmo and The Cartel of Uncommon Miscreants in Sartosa City (the first time in living memory that the port has fallen into enemy hands!) and they fended off Adm'rul Kurgan Grimjaw's Ironfang Orc Pirate Fleet from the Fortress of the Pirate King (which they captured from the old King before the incident with the Bloodfane). They finished the week with a fishing expedition at the Volcanic Lake – they had to fight their way through Lector Hugh's Flagellant band. Grand Master Ruben Rhal and The Blood of The Fold fought a bold action in Caragio. The Cartel of Uncommon Miscreants went on to face a band of Dwarven Scurvy Dogs in Caprio, but after an inconclusive engagement both sides withdrew at nightfall. Captain Zarmo's force is credited with causing many more casualties among the Bearded Buccaneers but still not sufficient to push them from their defences. Heave-to me hearties! There's work to be done and the waters ain't calm! ~ ~ ~ Davy Jones' Crew captured The Fortress of the Pirate King, Sartosa City and The Volcanic Lake. Roba is contested by The Scurvy Dogs, The Naval Alliance and The Corsairs. Caprio is contested by The Scurvy Dogs and The Corsairs. The Naval Alliance captured Caragio.

The burly warrior priest surveyed the surounding landscape with a snear. "I have just recieved word from our scouting parties that our arival on this Sigmar forsaken island, has not gone unoticed. It seems a band of ogres are heading this way."
By the expression on his face it was clear Lord Rahl was not impressed or in any way afraid of the advancing threat heading towards them.
"Good. The men have been getting soft on that accursed ship. Order the artillery crews to bring make sure that they have there equipment ready by the time they arive or they will be the first into battle with not so much as a shovel to defend themselves."
His eye's alighting on an old watchtower he smiled in a predatory fashion. "Have Corporal Higgins have his unit of handgunners take up fortification in that tower. We will deploy around it and show these creatures what the men of Sigmar can do."
With his orders issued he turned to find his horse allready waiting for him. After vaulting up into the saddle, he rallied his men around him and set off at a canter towards the watchtower where his first battle on Sartosa awaits.

Played Lemon Daves ( AKA Davespaceman) )ogres yesterday. Fortunately i had a fair amount of luck for a few things so it went quite well. I deployed some hand gunners in a building in the centre of my line, with another unit of handgunners on the ground in front of it. 3 units of knights were deployed either side. 2 units of pistoliers on the right and 2 hellblasters and 2 cannons intersperes throughout the line.
Dave deployed a units of leadbelchers at either end of the board, 2 units of bulls in the middle, 2 units of iron guts on the left behind a hill and a unit of yetees (sp?) on the right behind a forest.
The game went quite well for me. Cannons, it seems, are excellent at killing ogres. Unfortunately my units arent quite as good in combat as i had hoped. And his yetees were monsters, clearing out all my artillery and most of the hand gunners by the end of the game. The 2 gorgers didnt get alot of action as they arived late in the game and i managed to pick the first one off when it arived, and the second was too late to have an effect on the game.
Pistoliers on the right kept the lead belchers and butcher busy whille on the left i managed to avoid ever getting in combat with the tyrant (as that would have been VERY bad). Managed a minor victory in the end.
Played some wood elves later on, that went....less than well. Will write that up later on though. | |

Kommodore Deffgit Disappears!
Orc pirates the Ogresuns are at a loss as to the whereabouts of their aurally-challenged leader. Deffgit was shot in the back by halfling arrows and fell out of a third storey window, but his boyz were unable to find his body.
There has been speculation that the ground granted his wish of swallowing him up after his crew were not only seen off by reclusive Bretonnian knight errant 'Gallant Geraint', but also by the diminutive Halfling Catering Corps!
We asked Gordo Ram's-Eye to comment on the Naval Alliance's early ascendancy in Vercuso, but his response was unprintable.
Meanwhile, other gangs have been spotted in Vercuso too, presumably sent by the various factions warring over the whole island. The Merrie Men of Chalons have been spotted in Vercuso again, led by a scarlet-clad figure reminiscent of the late Robin Le Capot. Furthermore, rumours abound of terrifying creatures of undeath haunting the streets. The Vercuso Herald recommends the wearing of garlic at all times (although this may attract halflings).

- ‘Yeah!’ shouted Gordo Ram’s-Eye, his high-pitched voice echoing off the ruined buildings, ‘Yeah! You run you fudging cowards!’
The other members of the Catering Corps, feeling much emboldened by the sight of the fleeing orcs and goblins, joined in:
‘That’ll larn yer!’
‘Scram you bullies!’
‘Don’t mess with the Moot!’
The halflings danced around each other squeaking with glee: Their first scrap in Vercuso, and they’d somehow beaten a band of greenskin pirates!
Gordo grinned at the scouts standing with him on the walkway high up above the fleeing orcs. ‘Well, you Fighting Cocks lived up to your reputation – that Lumpin’ Croup certainly taught you how to handle a fudging bow!’ Don and Ned looked very smug. Then Gordo dropped his voice slightly: ‘But how’s about you let me get a few fudging shots in too, eh lads? I’ve got a fudging reputation to maintain here!’
Gordo led the scouts down the stairs of the ancient city wall to where Leon the halfling warrior was tending to the Chef: ‘Aims Low’ Haricot had taken a nasty blow to the belly and had clearly broken a leg as his significant mass had collapsed awkwardly. But the one-time pig farmer Leon was jubilant: ‘Two orcs oi took art boss!’ he piped, ‘an’ thart wud ha’ bin three if t’other han’t legged it wiv the rest ov ‘em afore I got chance t’finish ‘im orff!’
Four halflings gathered up Chef’s groaning form and struggled out through the archway. Across the street Faygin Bolger was gradually picking himself up off the ground. His clothes were covered in blood, and bruises were already beginning to mar his cherubic features. He winked at his friends: ‘Phew! I thought I was a gonner there lads!’ he said, before collapsing unconscious again.
‘Where are those fudgers Bill and Ted?’ asked Gordo.
‘Right behind you!’ came an answering squeak from Ted.
‘We’ve had an excellent adventure boss, we really showed those orc bullies what’s what!’ boasted Bill.
Ted looked confused and whispered, ‘Didn’t we just run away from them, Bill?’
‘Shh!’ said Bill, and puffed out his chest. ‘Lucky you brought us along, eh boss?’ he grinned.
Gordo was in too good a mood to disagree as the catering corps started searching the areas for treasure (preferably of the edible variety)…

| Ikrim elfeater strikes out alone - Nethrag wrote:
- The flagellants had proved to be extremely poor eating, year of stripping their own flesh with crude hooks had meant what meat hadn't been infected with disease was a mass of scar tissure. However the fishing trip had been much more successful after the battle. It had started slowly but as soon as squishy suggested changing the bait all kinds of things emerged from the depths. He was so helpful he even selected which gnoblars would be best. Ikrim thought he recognised a few from the group that had been with squishy in the cellars, he couldn't be sure though - they all looked alike to him.
After the beach bbq Ikrim though he'd go check out what had happened to his old mining colony down at the penitentiary...ahh fond memories.
His revelling was shattered when he caught sight of it though, men dressed up in tin cans riding around on their horses were everywhere. As his army approached they all dismounted and knelt on the ground, maybe they were going to surrender without a fight? He may have believed it if it hadn't have been for the bowmen up on the hill preparing their arrows. Then swooping down from the sky to land behind a clump of trees Ikrim saw his next new meal, it would take some plucking to get rid of all the feathers but this was a chicken that would be worth eating!
"RAAAARGH!!!"
As the ogres charged forwards one of the groups of knights turned and fled the battlefield and after the leadbelcher smoke cleared from their opening volley another was heading for the hills. Seeing this the huge chicken rider called the retreat and soon only the unhorsed peasants were left behind to feel the fury of a tyrant robbed of his dinner.
The tribe quickly finished off the stragglers and, setting a guard, the remainder started marching after the cowardly thinlings. The thinglings had a large start though and their horsed were swift even with the weight of the armour they carried. So if was in the distance that Ikrim spied the eventual fate of the tin cans.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some bad panic checks in the second turn meant half of seans army had run off the board and he still wasn't in charge range. He conceeded then as there wasn't really any way back for him.
After which we decided to have another game. Me using Lord Kadus Chillblade and his horde army of spearmen. - Nethrag wrote:
- Lord Kadus had barely had time to flog his first slave when the shades had reported sight of a brettonian army apparantly fleeing in their direction. What they were fleeing from hadn't been confirmed yet but if it could put an army to rout then it could only be the one he had came here to meet. Ikrim and his mercenary band of ogres.
As a show of good will Kadus decided to block the path of these cowardly humans. The only problem was that most of the cavalry and chariots, along with the war machines was still being unloaded from the ships. He'd just have to do it with the infantry, not ideal against a fully mounted army, especially without the ranged support of the ships reaper bolt throwers but it would be sufficient to bring these savages to heel. After all, HE was leading them.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After our quick last battle I decided to introduce Lord Kadus to sartosa. I didn't have my dark elves with me but I borrowed some off dave. He's got a ton of spearmen and I'd wanted to try out an infantry horde of them for a while. Army consisted of 4 units of 20 spearmen, 1 of black guard and 3 of dark riders. Along with 1 Lv 2 sorc, a BSB and Lord Kadus himself on a manticore.
Managed to get most of the charges off with the infantry against the lances which helped immensly. After that it took a while but the lances eventually broke one by one with units coming in on he flanks.
Special mention goes to the black guard who, with the exception of the pansy BSB, did very well for themselves. Also Lord Kadus who, when most would have fled managed to keep his nerve and allow reinforcements to reach him to seal the victory. | |

Syphylis’s Dark Intrusion
Heroes Dark Syphylis – Dread Lord Lotus Deathheart - Fellblade Hesper vanuse - Fellblade Hadrian - Beast Master Elaraith Darkspell - Sorceress
“Hard to port” Shouted Syphylis to his crew. As the ship sailed state towards the black cliffs in front of them. The fog had eluded the cliffs from their vision that dark night. Their ship was one of the fastest of Malekith’s fleet, it was a high and narrow ship, and had been covered in spikes and parts of the bodies that they had dismembered over the several months of sailing and pillaging. But its speed was to be its downfall. They had turned too late.
Washed up on shore few remained. Just seven stood there, dripping in not just water, they were drenched in blood. Several hundred slaves were on the decks below, and now their blood filled the shores that they stood on. “Such a waist of good slaves” said Hadrian. “They were a good loot, but I would have loved to have seen the faces of everyone as we brought so many back” lotus said with pride.
“Forget them, we have much bigger problems now, we must find a place to say tonight” commanded Syphylis. “These islands’ are treacherous and we do not want to be caught out by any fowl creatures tonight”. “Do you know these lands my lord?” asked Hesper “these are the islands of Sartosa, “I had planned to raid these islands before we returned.” He replied. “Finding Vercuso in the east would be a wise choice then my lord, there is much to be gained there, I can feel the power there even now...” mentioned Earaith
And so the 72 days of Slaughter began. - frog wrote:
- Battle 1
As they approached the city of Vercuso, there was pillars’ of black smoke rising above the city. “there are others here my lord” noted Hadrian “they must have been drawn here like us” said Earaith. ” We will camp here tonight and head into the city at first light” Syphylis Ordered As the sun rose the city didn’t have that same feel as it did the night before. Something was different. At the edge of the city was a tall building that seemed to be high above many of the others. So five went up the stairs to the higher rooms, as two of them stood guard down below.
Suddenly Hesper who had been gazing out the window shouted: “lord Skaven!” There were about 10 rat like things heading there way! “they are coming for us!” shouted another . “Crossbows” commanded Syphylis, they all fired a full volley which seemed to slow them down greatly, and killing what appeared to be the largest of the pack. Many of them turned back after this blow, but a few of them still came. “Magic, I sense Magic” Earaith said with fear in her voice. Sure enough when the skaven sorcerer got closer, after evading any more missile fire, millions of smaller rats filled the room, Started attacking the group, Hadrian was covered head to toe, the Screams filled the room.
Luckly for the group Hesper & lotus had come round the building and taken on the sorcerer and smaller rate that had taken shelter there. Killing one, but the sorcerer seem to be more than just a sorcerer, “Hesper” lotus shouted as she fell floor. There was a ringing of a bell in the distance, and as Hesper turned round the rat had disappeared into a small drain in the middle of the road.
“Rats, I hate rats!” Syphylis exclaimed. They had gone, but not for long...
After battle Warband Rating: 97 - frog wrote:
- Battle 2
The second time the Group came across the small vermin was when they reached the harbour. This time they were more organised...
It had been several hours since they had last seen anything that moved, Hadrian was still hobbling along with the several hundred bites that he undertaken. At the harbour front there no boats to be seen. “We must explore further into the city” Ordered Syphylis.
But a trap awaited them...
As they headed into the city the rats seemed to all among them almost instantly, it was like rivers of screeching squelching vermin. They ran around there feet. “Don’t let them touch you!” Warned Earaith, “That sorcerer is back”. “Stand your ground men” Syphylis commanded “crossbows at the ready”. “Lotus and Hesper, go and see if you can find that sorcerer, but watch your backs this time”. Syphylis had learned from the last time they had encountered the rats.
But what he hadn’t expected was a small stone from a sling being accurately pelted towards him! And could anyone have thought that he would end up falling in the water? Well wet he got! With the Gigantic sea monster ready and waiting to gobble him up! That put him out of action!
There was volley after volley of shots that afternoon, as wave after wave of rats came at them; lotus had managed to take down the sorcerer, while hesper had taken on a larger rate. Soon after the skaven were on the run again. Dispersing as quickly as they had come.
“Into the city” said Syphylis. And the Seven began the exploration of the outer city...
After battle Warband rating: 113 - frog wrote:
- Amongst the ruins
Two days Passed and they had found nothing, and see nothing. “This city is massive” Lotus said “and seriously spooky” Hesper replyed. “Enough you two” ordered Syphylis “Search those buildings; there must be something of worth here!”
“Elaraith, see if you can do some of your magic or something, and find us some gold! Or even better a slave or two to play with!” Commanded Syphylis
Elaraith looked up, Took a small object out of her pocket, held it high towards the moon and started mumbling a tongue that no mortal here could understand ... everyone stopped, at first nothing happened. But then ground started to shake.
A giant crack split open within the ground and ran from Elaraith straight towards on of the buildings on her left. A few seconds later, the whole building collapsed. A huge cloud of dust swamped the group.
“Elaraith!!!” Shouted Suphylis...
Once the cloud cleared there was a small goblin standing amongst the rubble of the ruined building completely unharmed and frozen to the spot...
“he’s been following us for over a day now” said Elaraith
A large grin came across the Syphylis’s face “some fun we will have to night! Get him!” | |

"blah blah! blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah!"
Gardrock looked at his Maneaters.
"Any of you lads speak Brett?"
"Nope" "sorry boss" "I know how to order beer but that's it boss!"
Gardrock pondered for a moment, I'll try common tongue.
"GO........FORNICATE........WITH.........YOUR...............SISTER!"
The knight turned his steed and rode inland blahing for all he was worth.
"looks like we're getting a fight lads!"
The Ogres set off for Roba down the old trade route but they didn't get far. An army of knights was arrayed before them. Hundreds of knights led by the giant form of a Hippogriff.
"Oi! Ayhabb? Can you shoot that thing?"
"Probably boss, though not at this range."
The Knight on the beastie signalled to his army. "blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah! Glory to ze Laydee!"
"Well lads, we may as well try and break through. CHARRRRGGGGGGEEEEE!"
Many knights and Ogres fell that day and in the end it was a victory to the Bretts who quit the field to sup watery Wine and eat food unpalatable to even the hungryest Ogre.
A Bruised and Battered Gardrock limped up the hill to where Ayhabb and his Trappers were dining on Horse-meat.
"WHAT HAPPENED TO SHOOTING THE BLOODY MONSTER???"
"I was bored Boss and fancied a snack. Look what mah boyz killed? A whole unit o mounted peasants!"
He grinned and patted the head of the nearest Gnoblar.
"Wanna Horse Boss? Nice an fresh!"
"That bugger and his mates chomped our battle line! They ripped apart my Maneaters and actually killed one! And you offer me HORSE???"
"Go on then...pass me a leg"
Game 2: On the Outskirts of Ragil (draw vs Naval alliance)
"Right lads! You know the plan. CHAAAARRRRGGGEEE!"
The Ogres thundered towards the Bretonnian coastal defenses.
The knights finished their prayers and started advancing. Gardrock could see a unit of Pegasus knights Charge Ayhabb. Great, he thought. So much for him shooting the monster again.
"Plan B lads. Open up on those glowing pretty boys!"
The Grail Knights disappeared under a hail of Lead and as the smoke cleared, all that remained was one of their Heroes carrying a glorious banner and a couple of girls. One sensibly ran away, but the other clung to the side of her protector. Gardrock raised his pistols and shot the horse from under her.
"Bloody witches! Ware the Flanks lads here comes Beaky and his tin can trotters!"
The impact of the knights into the Maneaters was less than expected and Gardrock fought one on one against the Lord and his feathered friend.
The battle between them raged for hours as they both hacked at each other. Eventually the Bretonnian was knocked flying from his mount, just as Gardock collapsed from exhaustion and his second beating in as many days.
The battle was much closer as both armies quit the field, A bloody stalemate.
A Bruised and Battered Gardrock limped up the hill to where Ayhabb and his Trappers were dining on Horse-meat again.
"WHAT HAPPENED TO SHOOTING THE BLOODY MONSTER???"
"Not my fault I was charged by winged trotters! Look what mah boyz killed? A whole unit o mounted peasants!"
He grinned and patted the head of the nearest Gnoblar.
"Wanna Horse Boss? Nice an fresh!"
"That bugger and his mates chomped our battle line! AGAIN! They ripped apart my Maneaters YET AGAIN! And you offer me HORSE???"
"Go on then...pass me a leg"
Game 3: In the farmlands beyond Ragil (loss vs Naval Alliance)
The Gnoblar looked up at Gardrock.
"More Tin Can Trotters boss! Diffrunt uns though! Dese natter like Prospero!"
"Empire then. Hmmmmm. Any Monsters?"
"nope!"
"Any War Machines?"
"yep!" holding up all his fingers "Deffnutly two boss!"
"RIGHT LADS. HARD N FAST AND WARE THE CANNONS!"
The battle lines advanced with fire balls and cannon fire being met by Gut Magic, Harpoon and Lead shot.
A spectral mist appeared behind the Empire lines accompanied by a wailing that reminded Gardrock of an infant Ogre. Then, in the distance he Could see the tentacle of Slippery Jack ripping into the human handgunners. To the right he could see something small flying towards him.
"Oh cr..."
The Cannon ball glanced off his temple.
Hours later he awoke to find Ayhabb sitting next to him with his Trappers.
"We lost again boss. Only Just, mind you."
"Look what mah boyz killed? A whole unit o mounted peacocks!"
He grinned and patted the head of the nearest Gnoblar.
"Wanna Horse Boss? Nice an fresh!"
"You tell me we lost... AGAIN! And you offer me HORSE???"
"Go on then...pass me a leg" | |

- Will L’Écarlate watched with relief as the last of the animated corpses disappeared into the distance. He was glad that he and most of his men had been able to keep their distance while the brutal beastmen and terrifying undead had fought to the death over the shards of Bloodfane. Things had changed in Vercuso while the Merrie Men had been back on Le Sanglier – these warbands were altogether more grim and evil than those they had met before.
But disturbing as their new foes may be, they still fell to Bretonnian arrows. More would have fallen if his men had shot better – Will feared he would have to find a barn door for them to practice on – but Marianne had shot surprisingly well, even with a shortbow! He grudgingly confessed to himself that maybe he should take the woman more seriously as a warrior.
He walked over to her, appreciative as ever by how her beauty never seemed dimmed by the austerity of life in Vercuso. ‘Mademoiselle, I believe you killed the beast-lord. The men have asked me to present you with this.’ He nonchalantly handed her a longbow wrapped in soft leather.
‘Thank you Will,’ she said, her eyes like cold steel, ‘so you have deigned to entrust me with more than a child’s bow? Be careful, or I may out-shoot the men!’
Will glowered at her retort as he heard the bandits’ chuckles. ‘I merely thought a shortbow would be more lady-like.’
Marianne bristled. ‘I do not need lessons in decorum from the likes of you! My beloved Robin taught me that a woman may fight like any man and still be a lady! Your type think members of my sex are good for nothing but looking at!’
Will could actually think of a few other things women were good for, but decided to say no more. Her mention of the late Robin Le Capot had reminded him of his responsibility as the new leader of the Merrie Men. He knew he had yet to prove himself in their eyes, but he also knew that he was the kind of leader they needed in the grim town that Vercuso had become.

Warband update after three-way scrap with Mike’s undead and Jonny’s beastmen:
Marianne sold her shortbow and gained a longbow. Also gained Quick Shot skill Le Moine Tuc received a helmet and pair of cudgels (seeing as his spell, Hammer' is combatty) 1 new marksman bought

Beastman Boss Butchered by Beautiful Bandit’s Baby Bow
The foul beasts of chaos known as The Longhorns made their debut in Vercuso this week, apparently very keen to gather shards of the Bloodfane. There is speculation that their shaman, Ghazrak, may himself have been involved with the original building of Nethrag’s colossal herdstone. But whatever dastardly plans the Longhorns have, they paid dearly for them yesterday:
Ambushed by the newly-arrived vampire Captain Wyatt Varcolai and his undead crew of The Carcass, they also had to fight under heavy fire from the Merrie Men of Chalons! The beastmen took many casualties from the undead, who in turn took casualties from the Bretonnians’ longbows while they hid themselves high up in the surrounding buildings. Hardest of all for the Longhorns was surely the loss of their leader to a bandit arrow shot from a short bow by the renowned beauty, Mademoiselle Marianne.
We have also had reports of protracted fighting between Syphylis’s Dark Intrusion of Druchii and the mysterious Skaven pirates of Clan Scuttle. With dark elves, skaven, beastmen, bandits and the undead abroad in our town, The Vercuso Herald urges its readers to remain vigilant at all times!
Vercuso is still under the control of the Naval Alliance, but for how much longer? Thanks to Clan Scuttle, the Scurvy Dogs are rapidly ascending to challenge them. And with reports of the return of Kap'n Hadduk's Halibuteers, it seems their forces may soon be bolstered yet again…

| Week 2Unexpected UpshotsThe fell hordes of Davy Jones' Crew held the ground captured last week and tried to expand their control of the island but they were checked at almost every turn. While all three of the other factions struggling for mastery of the Pirate Isle have managed to expand their holdings! Prince Robinet Puissant and Troupeau à Ailes Royal fought an extended engagement against Gardrock and the Sartosa Harbour Independent Trading Syndicate in Ragil, taking the town in force: Bretonnian banners flutter over most of the town and only a tiny suburb is held by a few determined Pirates. Tyrant Ikrim Elfeater's Chaotic Ogres routed a force of Bretonnian Corsairs in Caragio, who fled into the waiting cages of Lord Kadus's Dark Elven slavers at The Old Penitentiary. Tyrant Jayne and The Blue Sun Tribe went on a bit of a rampage after being bested by Captain Zarmo and The Cartel of Uncommon Miscreants in Caprio the headed down to The Old Penitentiary to see off General Jeridian Neskijn and the Nordland Expeditionary Force and a contingent of Dwarfs from the Naval Alliance. The strange mushroom forests of the Cave of the Damned were witness to an inconclusive battle between Lord Lokay's Wood Elves and Tyrant Ikrim Elfeater's Chaotic Ogres. Gardrock rounded off his unhappy week with a cannonball in the head as the Sartosa Harbour Independent Trading Syndicate were given a rough time by a combined force of Empire soldiers and Ogres, fighting for the Naval Alliance. What Lord Lokay's Wood Elves were doing sending a warband into the Cave of the Damned, no one quite knows, but they were massacred by a Daemon host in the darkness. The Blood of the Fold won a victory for the Naval Alliance in the farmlands beyond Ragil, against a crew of Scurvy Dog Ogres. Tyrant Ikrim was given a hammering in Fort Senilite by a Vampire Corsair and his crumbly company. Davy Jones' Crew held The Fortress of the Pirate King, Sartosa City and The Volcanic Lake and captured the Cave of the Damned. The Scurvy Dogs captured The Old Penitentiary. The Corsairs captured Caprio. The Naval Alliance held Caragio and captured Ragil. Roba is still contested by The Scurvy Dogs, The Naval Alliance and The Corsairs. | |

- Curse of the Octopus
Gummy Greenfeet laid into the steak pie like a ravenous wolf. He hadn't had much to eat that morning: two thick sausages, four slices of fried bread, six eggs, three and a half black puddings, two hash browns and a grilled salmon. A paltry excuse for a breakfast by anyone's standards. His bow lay not three feet away, ready to be snatched up in a moment if any intruders showed, and a broad dagger dangled from his belt, as effective at cutting a piece a brie as it was a man's throat. His cooking pot, that doubled as a rather effective helmet, broiled and bubbled and frothed beside him, ready to be donned at a moment's notice.
A piece of steak slid down his gullet and he smiled. Damn it he was a good cook.
The trees ahead rustled. He was up in an instant. He dove for his bow, missed, and rolled in the dirt. He grabbed it on the second attempt. Next he went for the cooking pot. He snatched it up and pressed it onto his head. Warm stew spilled all over him.
“Figs!” he mumbled. His knife squeaked from its scabbard but his hand was slippery from the spilt broth and it slid from his chubby fingers like a dart. “Double figs!” he burped.
Worse was to come, though. Wallowing in the dirt, contents dribbling out like innards from an open wound, gazing up with the look of a betrayed friend, was his pie. He must have knocked it over in the commotion.
“Triple figs!” he burbled, and fell to his knees in defeat. The intruder strode from the brush and into his trashed camp, blue and yellow clothes contrasting wildly with the dull green camouflage of the halfling, food-stained as it was. The big man stretched out his gloved hand, as if to be shook, a wide grin on his face.
“I have a proposition for you”.
* * *
The lector general was freezing. Frail bones rattled and his wizened jaw chattered violently. Thin folds of skin, that had once been a proud brow, drooped and sagged like bedsheets. The thin claws of his hands clasped a piece of parchment and the glassy beads of his eyes darted across the script as vigilantly as a man half his age. He looked at the assembled congregation of advisers, clergymen, clerks and general hangers on.
“Herr Blau has landed upon Vercuso. He tells me that things are much worse than we imagined”. The lector broke into a hacking cough. “He says the islanders speak of an ancient terror lurking in the waters offshore, and onshore is an even sorrier affair. He requests that we send more funds, more men and more weapons”. The old man seemed to move, but only his robes shuffled. “Tell me, Hans. What do you recommend”.
A man even thinner than the lector general squirmed beneath the piercing gaze. “Erm... well,” he sputtered, “perhaps we... could... erm, s-send more f-funds to him. It is as you s-say m-my lord, there is n-no c-cost too great for the destruction of evil”. The man seemed at least satisfied with his words.
“Yes, Hans, but times have been tight recently. The war in the Wastes, our endeavours in the Blighted East. Plus, my new villa won't pay for itself”.
The sycophants laughed, and the room seemed to get colder still.
“No, Herr Blau will have to take care of himself”.
* * *
“Look what I've found” chirped Gummy Greenfeet. The group turned to see the little fat halfling carrying a greasy mass of meat. Tentacles dangled limply from it and the bulbous pouch of its head sagged across the crook of his small arm.
“Where did you find that?” sneered Blau, pinching his nose with thumb and forefinger to close his nostrils.
“Remember that shaman that your man took out? Well, my cousin Bumble heard it from Old Man Craggy who I think heard it from Murvo Flan that octopuses make excellent eating. Anyway, I found it on that shaman's head. I think it was a hat or something”.
Blau's eyes went wide. “Get rid of it!” he roared. “It is possessed with his spirit. Destroy it, throw it into the fire!”
But it was too late. The soggy octopus's eyes had gone a luminous green. The tentacles were rising and a fat flipper slapped Gummy in the face. He squealed and dropped the thing.
“Grab it!” snapped Blau. The big man, Grun, went to dive for it. It deftly stepped aside, running on those damp tentacles as though they were legs. The old man, Weiss, lunged at it, but it skipped sideways like a crab and flopped off the pier and hit the water with a plop.
It seemed to be swimming, but who knew where to. | |

- The atmosphere is the tent was tense and down-beat even before Gerraint strode in. what a strange fortnight it had been. The flush of excitement in seeing off the orc pirates had overcome even Gerraint’s annoyance. He had firstly been annoyed that the motley crew had fled after he had ridden down their foul boss and his mood had not improved when he discovered that Nigel the squire had shot two of the evil beasts. This is not how a Bretonnian nobleman desports himself, the knight had reminded him.
And now, smarting from the humiliation of being ransomed from the clutched of those hideous rat-men, Gerraint was bent over the cold body of the squire, as Jocelyn cried quietly in the background.
‘He ran into single-combat with the poisonous creature that felled you, my Lord,’ reported the Warden, Jean-Pierre, ‘while the other young gentleman held off the giant rat-abominations’.
For the first time Gerraint smiled, ‘that was nobly done, then. I was right to forbid the carrying of bows by the nobles of Bretonnia. Our good squire lying here has won for himself great honour, and has set us an example of how to die. Next time we sally forth from this place, let us pray we shall leave the field with the rich gold of honour rather than the worthless tin of life and sound limb!’
The new recruits cheered enthusiastically, whilst Henri, Marshal of the bowmen looked at his lads – sometimes he was glad to be a commoner, and have a couple of hundred feet, a storey or two and his longbow between him and the enemy and a clear alley at his back! | |

6th October, in the year eight.
The Battle of Shanty Crescent
"The dogs are in between us and the boats" growled Kap'n Hadduk as he peered between the shattered timbers of the ruined shop, looking across at the maze of narrow allies and back streets where Shanty Crescent crossed Pressgang Alley. Ludwig the Coward's Righteous Templars seemed to be standing guard, trying to prevent anyone passing through to the docks.
"Dagon like dog. Dog tasty." said the Troll.
"That's not what I meant…" Hadduk began "Zog it, never mind." Then after a moment's pause "Actually, Dagon you can have the dogs. Go eat 'em up and kill anyone who tries to stop you."
The Troll jumped up and lumbered off shouting "Hear doggy doggy!" as he went.
Hadduk thoughtfully eyed the gangplanks and walkways that spanned the streets high above him. Most of the Halibuteers were still on the ship; only Kap'n Hadduk, Murlok the Shaman, the Big'Unz Kod and Makrul, Fishman Pike and Dagon the Troll were ashore. They were trying to keep a low profile in the city but with a Troll for company that wasn't easy – but it was better than risking the ship if they'd left him behind.
Murlok muttered the words of a quickening spell and ordered Makrul and Pike to stay close to him to benefit from it. They rushed across a narrow street to the left in the direction of a small group of very hairy humans who seemed to be trying to outflank them.
Dagon crossed the open space of Shanty Crescent and crashed into the Templars. To the sound of yelping dogs He bludgeoned aside the Witch Hunter Captain Ludwig and a Warrior Priest then paused for a few moments to stuff the mangled remains of their two warhounds into his gullet then, in a rare moment of independent initiative, he raced off towards the harbour.
Pike fumbled his cutlasses and was knocked out but Makrul smashed down both a Zealot and a Flagellant. Struggling through the whirling frenzy of the melee the Flagellant that took out Pike charged at Murlok swinging a flail double handed. The heavy metal-banded weapon cracked the Shaman's skull and knocked the octopus flying from his head. He went down hard and stayed down.
After Hadduk had taken a few unsuccessful pot-shots at the Templars who were hiding on the upper floors of the ruins then he gave up on shooting, slung his crossbow on his back and, followed by Kod, he climbed up through the Pie Shop for the aerial gangways that led in the direction of the water front. But he needn't have bothered - with their Leader and most of their warband out cold the Templars fled.
~ ~ ~
The creature that normally hung limp and lifeless from the Fishman Shaman's head writhed and squirmed along the cobbled street with more strength and agility than any sea creature had a right to on dry land; a cold fury burned like a green flame in his inhuman eyes. Unnatural senses sought out his prey – he needed a host to enable his to access his full abilities. Murlok would rejoin his warband as soon as he found another of the particularly slow witted Orc minds that were ideal for his schemes. Soon rough voices echoed from inside a crudely built grog-shop on the water front. As the sun set the drunken Orcs within would stumble out as usual and one of them would find himself with a new piece of headgear, some surprising new abilities and a new sense of purpose. | |

| Ikrim elfeater strikes out alone - Nethrag wrote:
- The last week had been a blur of activity. One battle after another, and they had begun to take their toll on the army. And he had even suffered his first ever defeat. Granted he'd then regrouped, pursued the foe and bashed his head in later on that week but still, it was most upsetting.
The week had started indifferently with his troops being ambushed in the once beastmen infested caves of the damned. The woodelves refused to stay still and be hit and as the evening closed in both armies withdrew. Then he'd suffered his defeat at the hands of a mysterious undead horde, even he had been forced to withdraw as the massed ranks of pressing undead warriors threatened to suffocate them. No matter how many times he killed them they semed to just get up again!
Stinging from this defeat he had regrouped his forces at beffardo and had launched an assault on a forwad group of empire troops stationed there. The victory brought much needed confidence back to the tribe and their ranks swelled with reinforcements from the penitentary to crush the larger empire force there.
That night the hated enemy had returned to the penitentary, the vampire marshelling his troops towards the old prisons, presumably looking for more corpses to reanimate. This time Ikrim was ready for him though and managed to surround the undead horde and grind their bones to dust. With this revenge he knew the tribe would just put their earlier failure down to bad luck, whether that was truly the case or not.
Regardless, buoyed on by their regained invincibilty they marched on a newly arrived orc army at vermunte. Their enemy contained trolls even larger than Ikrim himself, however the tribe were used to fighting giants twice their own size and though the trolls put up a fierce resistance and were the last to fall, fall they did. | |

| Da Kronicles of Adm'rul Kurgan Grimjaw, Book 5 - WarbossKurgan wrote:
- The Bay of Wrecks, 6th October, in the year eight.
Bullet, Ball and Bolt
"On deck there!" called Dribbla from the mast-head "Sail ahoy!"
"Where away?" cried Kap'n Mogrum as he hurried up the ladder to the quarter deck followed more slowly by Grognog, the Hogwasha's first mate.
"Hull-down on the larboard bow, an Empire ship – looks like it might be a Nordlander." said Dribbla.
Mogrum put a spyglass to his one good eye and scanned the eastern horizon. With the wind coming from the north-east an enemy ship to the east would have the weather gauge of them. After a moment or two he spotted the white sail against the darker clouds as the Hogwasha topped the rise of the moderate swell; it disappeared again as the ship dropped into the valley between waves. On the next rise the ship was much clearer and hull-up.
"The Salzenmund" said Mogrum to Grognog, who just grinned and turned to the packed deck. Two dozen waiting attentive Orc faces looked up at him.
"Bring 'er up to the wind and signal the cutter to stay under our lee." said Mogrum.
Grognog started shouting orders and the pirates jumped into action, swarming up into the rigging or hauling on ropes. The ships swung round and rapidly gathered way as sails dropped, filled and tautened.
~ ~ ~
The black powder smoke whipped away forward by the strong winds and a harsh cheer went up from the Hogwashas as their shot went aboard the Salzenmund. The Salzenmund may have the advantage of being upwind of them but the pirates were closing fast. The Nordlanders were holding back hoping no doubt to batter the pirates with their more powerful cannon and fearsome Hellblaster Volley Gun. The Orc's gunnery skills were excellent as usual and they kept up a brisk and accurate fire but they were hampered by one of their looted guns misfiring on its second shot and killing one of the goblin gun-crew. The charge was drawn and the gun was reloaded and fired again as the distance between the vessels narrowed.
A rending crash and a worrying creaking noise told them the Hogwasha had received the latest of several solid cannon hits to its hull and they had already lost a fair number of crew as they closed with the chase.
"Boarders ready!" yelled Kap'n Mogrum, completely unnecessarily; the Orc Pirates had been ready and willing to board for an age.
The Hogwasha rammed the Empire ship at a steep angle, the two ships ground along one-another's sides, relieving the Salzenmund of much of her prized paintwork and ornately carved gunwales.
"Boarders away!" roared Mogrum as he rushed forward.
A thunderous series of explosions, each overlapping the last announced the firing of the Volley Gun but the Orcs were lucky, they escaped the worst effects when it misfired on its second volley. Still a fair number of pirates were shredded by the hail of grapeshot fired at murderously close range in the last moment before they boarded.
Orcs howled as they clambered, swung and leapt across to the enemy ship, taking almost as many casualties from falling between the ships than from enemy fighting. The Nordlanders counter attacked in force: Greatswords rushed from the Captain's cabin to the Orc boarding parties and for a moment it looked as though they may repel the invaders.
But the Orcs kept pouring over the gunwales in almost unending numbers, the Salzenmunds were shaken by the ferocity of the pirate attack (the prospect of the red cutter pulling round to their larboard side and disgorging another dozen or so Orcs there probably didn't help) and they abandoned the ship.
~ ~ ~
"Nearly two feet of water and rising in the hold." reported Glom, the Hogwasha's carpenter.
Grognog repeated this to Mogrum and added "The prize is hardly damaged Sir; there are plenty of supplies in its hold, an all."
"Very good Mr Grognog. Make the barky sound enough for the trip back into port. We'll use what we need to from Salzenmund but I want to sell most of the cargo – it'll fetch a pretty penny with another war brewing up." said Mogrum with a piratical gleam in his eye.
With the enemy ship captured, lashed to the Hogwasha and thoroughly searched the Orcs set to work repairing both in their usual crude but effective style, while the cutter raced back to shore to bring the good news in ahead of them.
