Just thought of something, and I don't rightly know for certain:

If a character is mounted, do the skills Expert Swordsman, Dodge, and Step Aside still apply?

I'm sure I could find the answers if I dig enough, but it's been a long week, and I'm feeling kinda lazy. If anyone knows off the top of their head, I would appreciate feedback. study

I have read opinions that hold that the above mentioned skills do not apply when mounted. We have always played that they do as otherwise taking a mount is even more useless.

Agree with you VK based upon their cost and rarity alone, but I can see the argument otherwise. I'll talk to the other guys in my campaign. Hopefully it won't be too much of an issue.

Logically, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to dodge an arrow or move your body, when someone takes a swing at you. I know you can't "step" aside, but if that save really was stepping aside when something hit you, then why is it taken after wounding?
Rulewise, I can't find it, so I'd assume they'd all still work. The skills says what they do, and I see no errata correcting it after Blazing Saddles came out.
Balance-wise, mounting anything above 20 exp would be a bit pointless.

All in all: They still work very much imo.

And why is Expert Swordsman an issue? Can't you be good at charging with a sword from horseback? ^_^

I should have questioned Expert Swordsman myself. That is one I haven't heard before. Step Aside and Dodge I have seen disallowed by others who used to post on this forum. Their arguments basically boiled down to 'mounts suck, don't use them and don't make them useable' as far as I could tell.

Our group had the discussion about Step Aside and Dodge when we first started using the Blazing Saddles rules and followed a logical path similar to Aipha's .
