| If your first hit is in CC do you first attempt the parry, then use the lucky charm OR do you use lucky charm first and then try to parry? | |

| I would say parry first. If the parry is successful then there is no successful hit for the lucky charm to negate. | |

| The lucky charm is automatically triggered - and any luck it has used up - by the first hit. As such, it's better for the player to parry second. This gives him a chance if the charm doesn't work or if he's hit more than once. - LRB wrote:

| I have an additional question. A buddy of mine has an old Mordheim rulebook. In that book, the lucky charm is automatic (no need to roll a 4+). I have a copy of the rules that I downloaded (I thought from GW) that states that the lucky charm is a 4+.
Which is correct and why is there a difference?
Thanks

| 4+ is correct. Automatic was the original rule which was "errata-ed" (because it was thought to be too strong, mostlikely) | |

| Was there a specific errata, or was it an update tot he rule book?

| The 4+ is the current official rule. We used to fixate on how broken the lucky charm was before the rule change. Can't remember why now, so the change must be good.
The rules were officially updated in 2005, however there were no printings of the new rulebook.
Lucky charm versus parry--we go with lucky charm, since it takes the first hit period. Parry is only against the highest possible hit. | |

| There is an Errata on the GW page (the same place you can download the rules) with these changes (page 3 bottom and 4 top). The rulebook you can download already has these Errata implemented, which is why the pdf-version is different from your friend's old, unedited, paper-version. Edit: 600 Posts -yeehaah!... | |

| I would prefer parry first, but our group plays LC first, following the logic von Kurst articulated.
With the original rule (always blocks the first hit), in my mind the problem was that it led to some "gaming" from players - my henchman attacks first to kill the charm, then my hero attacks. That sort of thing.
When the errata (rules change, really) were first released, I skimmed them quickly before a game and then explained a couple of the changes to friends before we started playing. I misread the change to charms, and thought it had a 50% chance of going off against the first hit (correct), but that if it did not go off it had a 50% chance of triggering against the second hit, and would continue to have that 50% block chance until it finally blocked one, after which it went inert for the rest of the game. We played for a few months before noticing that error. But I actually kind of like it, and may make a rarer and more expensive variant of the LC some day.

| Yeah OK. The rules for parry say that it occurs when an opponent successfully hits. As this also triggers the LC then the LC would be consumed first. @mweaver... I like that idea of an alternative LC. It may not save the life of a warrior the first time but if that warrior is attacked enough it may eventually be successful. | |
