| Seeing as how this thread has a dual purpose I'm going to move it over to general shouting and just post bits about the flat in here. I will start another thread for the big board project just as soon as the materials arrive (In the next two weeks if all goes to plan ) So on with the thread, I've recently moved (as you have probably guessed by this stage). I'm now on the 7th floor of a block of flats in Bedford town centre. Due to my unemployment, I moved via a housing agency. The all-seeing BPHA...sigh. Their policy is to literally strip the place down to its bare bones when someone moves out. I was given £80 in vouchers for decorating materials and that's where the pictures start. Enjoy...

| Boreas_NL is here too! My own little corner of Mordheim... In the UK a good supplier of pink insulation foam is B&Q - they had great big packs of the stuff for under £20 last time I checked. Looking forward to seeing some WIP photos! | |

| Well I don't have any WIP pictures for the table I have sourced the materials to build the boards with. Hopefully I'll have enough money sorted to get cracking on it in the next few weeks. In the meantime here are some WIP pictures of another project of mine. The Front room (Before) The Front room (After) The Bedroom (Before) The Bedroom (After) I didn't have any minis unpacked for size comparison But if you look closely you can just make out Cogley reading about the Iron Warriors...He's kinda orcy... Anyway, sorry about the delays but I guarantee you I'll be painting this week, maybe not models but definitely painting. | |

| Hi, Robin! Well, after reading your post about your "soon to be" modular table, and having almost finished mine, I think I can make some suggestions:
- My initial idead was the same as yours for the tiles size, but for me 2' x 2' is way too big to be properly stored, unless standing, which was not so good, and also a little bit unwieldy and too heavy on a day by day basis. My board was made of 9 tiles of 40cm x 40cm, which has almost the same area as 4 tiles of 2'x 2'. They are still big to be properly stored on shelves, but way better than 2'. Also, their size was more manageable;
- I've used 3mm MDF for my tiles, 12mm in my humble opinion is way too heavy and costly! A 2' x 2' square of 12mm MDF will height at least 2 kilos! And if you are afraid of warping, even 12mm can be warped by the glue used to glue the foam to the MDF. My suggestion: go to a hardware store and look for some wood paint base (don't know exactly the name in english). This is a product made to "seal" the wood and make it more or less waterproof. Pass this over the MDF before glueing and there will be no warping!
- If you will use the whole 2' x 1' rectangles to represent the river, another suggestion: 1' is too wide, even for bridges, unless you but some destoyed boats to use the space. On my table I've used only 15cm of river, and another 10cm for the pier and docks.
Well, just suggestions! Good luck with your project!
Cheers,
Arcuballis | |

| @Arcuballis: Thanks bud. Appreciate the ideas and they make a lot of sense. I'm going for a wide river with a purpose. It won't encompass the entire 1' width. Basically I want the centrepiece to be a large bridge with small buildings on it. (Like the old tudor bridges) There will also be piers and ruined boats. The idea is that characters can fight over the main bridge or risk jumping across the piers and wrecks to get to the other side. The first option makes the bridge an important objective and the second option could lead to some interesting flanking maneuvres. In regards to my 1 to 1 scale project I've chosen to go for Blood red for the front room with a feature wall (my girlfriend informs me they're all the rage ) and a kind of Liche purple for the bedroom. It might take a while with the tiny little GW paints of course. hehe | |

I like the sound of that..... just make sure a 60mm base will fit across it | |

| @Knightei: It's the drybrushing that'll kill me. @monkeylite: There's a ready supply of elves in the bargain bin at any local QD store. @vulkan he'dan: I'll make the appropriate measurements. Despite the fact that it would please me massively to see you're champion stuck on one side of the bridge and cogleys ogres on the other. Just standing and shouting at each other. @Arcuballis: I've taken a look at different thicknesses of materials and decided that 6mm MDF and 50mm (I want to be able to carve a lot) foam is the best shout. This places the cost at just over £25 which is far more manageable. If the tiles were made smaller (1 foot by 1 foot) how high is the chance of warping through sticking down the foam? | |

| EDIT: I have requested that this thread be moved. (See the first post in the thread above) This will now be a chronicling of my quest to make the flat livable. I will start another thread about my table project in the future. But on with the show... Today I'm stripping old wallpaper. A job reserved for those who really hate themselves or the truly insane. Especially with the lack of a steamer... Does anyone have any tips on wallpaper removal that would make the job easier? I am scoring the paper and spraying it with water but anything else that could help is most welcome. | |

| A brief update. This is previous wallpaper that is coming down... It's not bad paper, it's just not right with my other choices for the room... | |

| Well after a brief trip into the little known circle of hell where sinners are damned to strip wallpaper by hand for all eternity, I found some tricks and sped up the process. Tomorrow my sister arrives and we crack on with painting and such. | |

| And a final picture of the front room. This is it now until the carpet arrives. Sorry if people aren't that interested, it's my first flat that i'm not renting through a housing agency. What do people think of the "blood red"? | |

| Sorry your new digs haven't gotten much attention. The General Shout Section is quite often ignored. It is exciting getting a first apartment/flat. I really like the blood red; it makes the wallpaper look cool..I'm not a wallpaper Guy myself, but it looks cool nonetheless. What color is the carpet going to be? | |

| Not sure on carpet yet, trying to find something that'll work throughout making it cheaper and easier to lay. Probably a sandy colour though. Also, I now hate wallpaper and will laugh at anyone that says they have to a) take down or b) put up wallpaper. It's a nightmare... Cheers for the reply though bud. | |
