| Howdy,
I am looking for any tips on playing a Pit Fighter war band, a bunch of my friends and I just started campaign, and I am very new to the Mordheim world. I have been doing some reading and Pit Fighters might not have been the best choice as a starting war band but, its to late and I am committed.
Thanks in advance...

| Hi glenz. I don't have any advice on Pit Fighters, but I'll bet you'll get more more response from those who do in the Rules & Games Play Section. SO I'll move your question there. | |

| Yeah i playedboth ruleset of pit fighters. The first one from TC14, which sthe stronger one, with cool weapon options and the version of TC21 which is much weaker because you start with 4 instead of 6 heroes. The more important issue i have are the stupid styles of the second list. You must use one style which is connected to specific weapon options. This is boring.. You are a newbe so maybe they will be ok that you use the first list of TC 14. The playing style is nearly the same. You don't have much range combat, only javelins, which can be thrown 8"( but you need some of them). You need to use your buildings for screen yourself and hide your fighters and preferbly fight in them because of your pit fighters skill. The ogre is also a nice choice, but he is expensive. There are very nice miniatures on the market, so you can browse a lot of shops to find you choice of miniatures. Maybe you are interested in some pictures of my minis: https://boringmordheimforum.forumieren.com/t4574-serialmoms-pit-fighters?highlight=serialmomsGood luck, please report how your first games went. | |

| Make the most out of what your warband has that others don't
Pursuer Heroes - the evade skill is worth its salt Any Hired Sword available (except elf ranger and a couple others) this means that you can substitute your lack of shooting with loads of excellent shooting HS blood pact them and hire more. Ogre Heroes - be careful people will target these wait till the warband gets bigger if you are joining an existing campaign everyone has pitfighter skill - make the terrain to your advantage
a friend of mine in the campaign was playing pit fighters every multiplayer game he sold his "services" on the table fighting for whoever paid the best, this made him rich fast

The rules for the Hired Sword Blood Pact are here, not to mention all the hired swords: http://libermalefic.blogspot.com/2010/10/old-swords-on-new-contracts.html - SerialMoM wrote:

Is there still a place to get the TC14 version of the Pit Fighters?

| SerialMoM: Javelins are 10" range for Pit Fighters.
My advice...
Pusuers are a must! I ususlly run 3 with javelins. Probably because I only have 3 models of that type. Pursuers are awesome so get more when you can afford them.
I advise an ogre at the start. They earn exp. slow but if you get Lad's Got Talent for him it is awesome. Buy him a 2nd weapon for the extra attack. Maces are fine until you can afford something better for him.
Start most of your heroes with the Orc style to save gc for the ogre.
Make sure the terrain gets set up in a way to block those long straight streets of arrow death. Old cities were not laid out in straight lines. Run from bldg to bldg.
Ask your group if you can hire a Kislev Ranger from Empire in Flames so you can get the Elf Ranger exploring perk without an Elf. Your Dwarf would kick your butt if you hired an Elf!

"Town Cryer" was a set of magazines that had new content for Mordhiem back in the day. I may have it now that I think about it, but I'll have to dig through my backup hard-drive when I get home to locate it. - playtable wrote:

I agree, but I would go with a double-handed weapon so that his targets will not get the parry roll.

You will need a Strength increase to St 5+ 2 to stop the parrying of Str 3 warriors, i would go with the extra attacks, but an ogre is putting a lot of eggs in one basket its 200+ gp, think about being able to rout then search for your first few games . dont call sopa TC14

| "double or more its own Strength" pg25 With a two-hander its going to be S6 vs S3 in most cases. Also thanks for the link, that will be a time saver for me. =) - Phantasmal_fiend wrote:

| There was a reason why they re-wrote the rules from TC14.
NO, I don't know why but I recommend using the newer rules from TC21.

| I've played the new warband and even though it's pretty expensive to buy the weapon sets because of the helmets, they're still worth the gold. They're extremely powerful in h2h combat, even though I've rarely managed to get the fights inside I have max 2 of each model, and thus use 2x orc style, 2x skink style with javelins, 2x skinks with trident (awesome for henchmen with +1 Initiative, kicks ass for blocking objectives in narrow alleys etc), 2x undead style and a single chaos style for my A3 hero Oh, and if you're lucky enough, you can have 2x ogres with a hired bodyguard! | |

NO, I don't know why but I recommend using the newer rules from TC21. The TC14 warband is a little bit too strong, because you start with 6 heroes. The TC21 warband is very badly designed because of these inflexible fighting styles. Yeah it is newer, but it is not better.

| I am not sure about other groups but my group has played that Pit Fighter style gear sets can be pieced together. So if you have a spare helmet and a shield you just buy an axe and it is an orc style set, etc. But at creation and new hires you have to buy a full style kit.
Ithimir sword undead style was good for my pit veterans.

Not just your group, it is in the Pit Fighter rules. - Quote :

Yes, 2 ogres! The warband I'm using right now has (rating 422): has a LGT ogre and an ogre bodyguard. My Pit king has-chaos style-4A + bulging bicepts = 4 -Str.6 Attacks each round---he is mean! also a LGT Pursuer-S4 javelins + i 4 to stop chargers plus 6 Pursuer henchmen (2 with javelins, 2 with 2 swords, 2 with tridents) Hired swords are an Ogre bodyguard, Kislev ranger, and I just got a tilean marksman for free with 3-6s exploring (thanks to the kislev ranger). I only win 1/3 of my games but part of that is my legendary poor recovery rolls and part is my lack of tactical talent. In someone elses hands, who knows? Good luck with yours.
