Does anyone on the board have any gaming experience of using a Bard and have any stories to tell or insights to share for this particular Hired Sword?

The wording of the special rule 'Songster' doesn't appear to very carefully worded. Depending on what scenario is being played the ability to re-roll any Leadership tests with a +1 Leadership bonus (and your Rout tests if the Bard is within 6" of the warband leader) is pretty handy.

I can confirm first hand that starting musicians are flaky in hand-to-hand!

Regards,

Stuart

No real experience, I'm afraid. The closest I've had is the DP I wrote, William Schakestange, the master bard. He appeared in Letters of the Damned, although on Styroheim, his pdf includes a scenario based on him (all of the guys at my group agree that it's a lot of fun cyclops )

The Sorcerous Society warband in our BTB campaign last year had a Bard hired sword (Molly the Minstrel).

The player told me that the "Songster" special rule is good for fear tests as we had Restless Dead, Chaos/Black/Fire Dwarfs and two Beastmen warbands in our campaign and it was also good for rout tests. It was a relatively cheap hired sword (10 gc upkeep) to boost the numbers in the warband and even to act as cannon fodder/meat shield along with the henchmen if required. These were the reasons why he chose the Bard.

Molly the Minstrel received the Cloven Hoofs mutation during the campaign but wasn't expelled from the warband and (obviously out of gratitude) eventually formed a blood pact with the warband making her even more useful.

Now *that* would have made a brilliant narrative! Laughing

This sounds brilliant. Every warband can make use of a minstrel it seems. Wink
