Educate me on the Undead warbands - Page 2 Empty

I try to evolve into the WYSIWYG thing as I play. My dwarves are all on standard dwarf models, with armor and helmets and what not, but I eventually geared them out to be using what they are wearing, and then slowly added stuff like pistols from the Thunderers box I picked up for my Dwarf army.

"Okay, loaded the Strigoi band on the Styroheim site. Will add the rest of Brahm's scenarios and rules soonish."

Thanks *tips hat*

Thanks for the upload!

Wow, that list looks really powerful. Has anyone tried it? It almost seems as if most the Undead list's weaknesses were taken out and the Vampire himself seems stronger as well.

There's also a strigoi warband in Karak Azgal. It also suffers a bit from being strong, but I think it's fairly balanced for campaign play.

Brahm's Strigoi: It's definitely strong, but I don't know if it's broke. Brahm's warbands are generally pretty stable.

Pros over Undead list:
Experience learning henchmen
Stronger "dregs"
POWERFUL vampire skills (Great Thirster & Curse of the Revenant seem a little TOO strong to me.)
Good special items
Vampire can learn 3 spells (each taking a skill- not all that great, in my opinion, as you're wasting your best fighter's skills)

Cons vs. Undead:
Max size 12
Vamp can't use weapons
Expensive heroes (all 30+, with the vampire 115)
Few Fear causing models
suffer psychology
Items are good, but not amazing
lack of cheap henchman

Personally, I'd nerf the "Thirster" skill to only grant +1 Attack if he takes a model out of action (although he has to charge like he's frenzied), and erase the Revenant skill completely. After that, it looks good.

Azgal: Can't recall that one off the top of my head, but most of the Azgal warbands were a bit too powerful for my taste. For example, nearly every Leader started off with A2 for no reason at all. (Makes sense for a Vampire, but for a Trollslayer and a Orc? A bad call.)

Agreed. The strigoi warband though, is not overpowered in the same way. The vampire and the ghouls do not have access to any weapons or armour and since the list is based on these that limits them alot.

Found it online:

http://www.docstoc.com/docs/81574608/KARAK_AZGAL

Call me crazy, but it's still strong (not as bad as it could be... you want a monstrous "ghoul band", see the Fallen warband.) The Vampire starts with Necro magic.

Anytime he wants, he can buy a Bloodline bonus, which is as strong as a mutation. (True, it costs 2X for every bloodline past the first, but it's still STRONG stuff.) If this was limited to, say, everytime he made an advancement, or maybe he had a rarity roll attached, it might help slightly.

The ghoul heroes can learn Weapons Expert, but none of the henchmen can, which is a fair compromise.

Personally, I think I like the flavor of Brahm's a little more (although I'll admit the bias.) I think it smacks more of the Strigani gypsies, and makes it play different than the other Undead bands. This one looks like a vanilla Undead band with a slightly different Vampire.

I wouldn't mind just using the standard Undead list as I think it represents Strigoi very well.. but it'd be cool if there was some kind of stage coach to represent how the Strigany transport their dark master. Dunno how the rules would be as in the past I just converted a Black Coach to represent this in Warhammer.

well you could always save up a ton of gold and buy an opulent coach. Won't have any battlefield significance or anything, but you could always have it on the board as a piece of terrain.
