| Just wondering if it is legal to use javelis in close combat? I figured that you use them like s a spear, without the strike first rule applyed...

| They are a ranged weapon, and realistically they are usually weighted odd and too flexible to be used well. I say the models using them though can count it as a dagger for looks purposes at least. You could house rule they count as a dagger in melee maybe? | |

Cheers Legal, no. They are classed as missile weapons just like throwing daggers. Any use in close combat would have to be house ruled.

While this is true to some extent, a warrior in melee probably isn't that picky. To the best of my knowledge spearmen have used their spears for throwing as well, unless the spears were too long or heavy, or were winged, or had a foot hold at the end for taking a charge. In my group we play it as a matter of training and amount of spears. If you have a model with a spear, that model can use the spear as a javelin, IF it is allowed to use javelins, but you have to pay for both spear and javelin. This also works the other way around. To us, it's a question of paying enough for the flexibility, to represent the model being able to spare a spear for throwing.

| In the normal rules you can only use them for ranged attacks, but if your group wanted a house rule then I think treating them as daggers isn't a bad one. | |
