| This came up in a game the other night. The "ricochet" result from the advanced missile crit. tables seems pretty straightforward. Here's the text:
If there are any other models within 6", the closest enemy model is also hit. Roll to wound and take any saves as normal for both targets.
However, what happens when the closest enemy model within six inches is out of line of sight? Are we to assume that the missile rebounded around a few corners, down a flight of stairs, and hit a guy hiding under a table?

| As far as the rules go, yes.
You could think of, in the case of an arrow, the shaft splintering and the arrowhead go flying.
In the case of a bullet, that very well could richochet around a room and hurt someone OR go flying through a wall and hurt the guy behind it.
I think a suitable house rule though would be to reroll the crit if that occurs, if your gaming group is not comfortable with it.

| And a follow up: what if the nearest enemy is in close combat? | |

| The way we play it, that is just bad luck for the person that got hit in close combat. You are not allowed to shoot into close combat, but in this case the model wasn't - they were shooting nearby and it just happened to bounce or something. | |

| Then what about spells like Chotek's Wrath from the Lizardmen list?
"A lightning bolt shoots from the sky above and strikes the closest enemy model within 10" of the Skink Priest, causing a single Strength 5 hit. "
Would the Skink Priest need line of sight in that case? Can he cast from around corners?

| The way my group plays is that if you get to choose the target of the spell then you need line of sight. If the spell dictates who the target is (e.g. closest enemy, closest animal, etc) then line of sight is not considered unless the spell mentions otherwise. So yes, your Skink Priest could cast around corners with that spell. | |

| My group has played it that way in the past, but now plays that a magic user must see his target unless the spell says otherwise
Q&A in TC#12, p. 43: Spells cannot be targeted at models which are out of line of sight. However, models which are out of sight may still be affected by spells with an area effect provided another model is targeted and they fall within the spells' radius.

| Good Q&A find. Though I'm sure the some-spells-can-cast-around-corners school of thought would take issue with the word "targeted" in the explanation.
@Von Kurst: How do you play the ricochet rule? Do you require line of sight?

| These days it really depends on the player. Mostly we play the ricochet bounces around corners, goes through walls and whatnot. Some players are a bit less bound to the wording of the rules and allow the ricochet to hit the nearest model. We once had an arrow fired by a dreg hit 3 undead and a few skaven before it finally stopped! That was a lot of 6s to wound.

| My group has ruled that a ricochet can not cause a critical to avoid this circumstance, however humorous it may be! | |
