What was everyone's first model (or box set etc.)

I started back in 6th grade with a single Ultramarine with Lascannon. I later 'upgraded' the model with a bolt pistol and a Snotling with a Spear. Just because every marine needs a Snotling guarding his boots from rodents.

I remember we tried to guess the rules until we saved up for a rulebook. We played many games based solely on fluff we knew with my friend's two Dire Avengers vs. Joe the Space Marine.

Boy was I disappointed at how weak Space Marines were in that edition. Wasn't until Dawn of War II where I finally got to play a game where space marines felt... right.

The original MB games heroquest was my starting point. Followed by the Advanced Heroquest Paint set. Still got a single HQ skeleton somewhere too...

OH JOY...another trip down Memory Lane! My first actual war game figures were a box set of Britains Ltd. Coldstream Guards, which were laboriously converted into something vaguely resembling Danish Greadiers from the 1750s; they were WONDROUS to behold..."wondrous" in this case being "I wonder why I bothered".
By the time Citadel minis appeared on the scene I had gone from gaming in 54mm to 30s to 25s & from historical to fantasy. The first Citadel thingies I picked up were probably the Gnoll Tribe minis, which were cool since they were different heads on the same basic bodies...an idea they "borrowed" from Collin Dixon's Civil War minis. My first ever model was this 1983 Citadel Dwarf Thief - at the time I'd just started playing D&D with a Dwarf character. It cost 40 pence!

Pretty soon I started buying Orc models and the rest, as they say...
