Do models with Step Aside get a chance to dodge Gnawdoom wounds?

I can see both sides of it, and for the life of me have no idea which way to answer. With the fluff, I'd say yes; without the fluff, I'd say no. Seems like it's a distance close combat attack. I'm stuck completely in the middle on this one.

Step Aside works against close combat only, dodge works versus range. The only thing that can stop gnawdoom besides would be armour saves and magic resistance I think.
