| After getting tons of inspiration from all of you guys, I have started my first ever fantasy terrain piece. Maybe this is a little ambitious for my first building, but I have Necromunda terrain experience to fall back on. Material used: foamboard, craft sticks, balsa wood, a pen, emers glue. I still need to add the 3rd floor and the other side wall on the 2nd. I forgot to add a window before gluing the wall. I have tried to make the upper leve accessible from many directions, something I plan to continue with all my terrain. | |

| Looks pretty cool. I like the wood, the ladder and all. Cool.
I was going to say that the window looks somewhat 'deformed' when I realized that it is probably painted/drawn on the wall with a think pen.

I personnally think it's made with paint or something (to smooth for pen i think) _________________ ..and by a roll of the dice you go under..

| Really well done. The stairs are a very nice piece of work; you pulled it off perfectly. This is going to be a fantastic piece when completed, & the progress reports will be fun to follow.
The Necromunda experience should be Very helpful in doing your fantasy pieces. If anything, the Necro stuff looks more difficult to do. Do you have any of your Necro stuff posted anywhere? I'd like to check it out

In absence of a better word I wrote 'pen'. I meant something like felt-tip or marker pen (edding?) or something.

| Yes, a very practical piece. I think the coolest part of this building is how you actually framed the inside of the doors! Freaking great! i don't know why I've never thought of that. Great idea!
Keep up the good work! | |

| Very cool mate. Good on ya. Simple but it works. I need to make a few of these.
I've had a bit of a dull patch with scenery making lately. Things might change once University assessments are over.
Cheers ~ Steve | |

| it's coming along very well. as mentioned above, the stairs are excellent.
don't forget to seal the foam if you intend to spray undercoat it, otherwise your terrific ruin will be ruined [pun intended]

| A quick update here on my mordheim terrain. My first building is constructed except for the roof (and some wood details). I learned a lot: 1) Craft sticks are to hard to work with. I must buy sheets of balsa wood for my planking. 2) While the stonework looks amazing, most building i make will not have it so i can speed up the job. A few select building will have stonework, the rest can be assumed to be wooden inside the plaster/mud/whatever the hell these old timey building are coated with. 3) I made the steps all wrong, next time it will be easier but it's hard to explain at the moment... 4) The cracks look good but not sure if they will show up after texturing. Speaking of texturing what should i use? Sand and glue is cheap and easy but i prefer polyfilla/spackle from what i've seen. Any tips? You can see my other building which took about 4 hours off and on this weekend. I need to speed up my time. While the first has 3" walls, the 2nd has 2.5" walls. I decided it the best trade off between playability and realism. I will round it down to 2" for climbing purposes. I actually like the height difference and if you look at the street view profile, they look great overhanging the road! I plan on mass producing buildings in the future, these are my experiments. So far i have decided to construct the walls, texture them and paint them. I will paint the balsa separately and put it all together after. Well enough of my yapping, if your still reading this stop and look at the pictures like everyone else! Sorry about the cell phone pictures, it's all i have right now. | |

LOL! - Pathfinder Dubstyles wrote:

Buy the smallest "bucket" you can find at the home improvement store (usually 500ml minimum) and you will have enough for a small city. You can add fine sand to that to get a rough effect instead of a "spackle" one. It is also thin enough not to clog the cracks you carved. This is the method I used on my whole city. I hope that helps. _________________

| COOL BEANS! NICE progress there Dubstyle! LOVE that balconey! I've been using the Woodland Scenics Foam Putty for the stucco work. You can acheive the swirls associated with stucco & etch in the cracks before it's dry. | |
