I was reading the rules for the hunting rifle and I don't get why it's so expensive. It's good but personally I don't think it's worth 200gc. Then you can get a double-barrel one for 400/250gc if your Ostlanders. Why is it that expensive

Agreed. Your like 'woah 200gc?? the special rules must be amazing' then you find there not. Not at all.
I always thought it had something to do with the weapons sorta representing how much they would cost in real life instead of in the rules. eg sword costing 10gc, clubs being dirt cheap, armour being really expensive etc
Although this works in some cases (garlic being 1gc) in other cases it sucks donkey dick (hunting rifle being 200gc).

FeelingFine69 is correct. Some of the costs in the game represent the rarity of the item within the game world rather than the effectiveness of the weapon. Hunting Rifles are rare and therefore the cost is high.

The Hunting Rifle is only effective IMHO, if you play with a lot of open space. Because of its high range. Other than that I find it way to expensive for its benefit. That being said, I have hired the Big Game Hunter. He comes with the Hockland Rifle and if he dies, so what, he’s just Contract Labor! And you don’t have to pay the Dead.

I've seen a good few too many Hochland rifles in my time. I'm glad they are so expensive! As the shooter you may not see the value but being on the other end is so frustrating if they are so far away you can't do anything about them.
On the other hand I once captured a warband leader armed with one...

One of the advantages of the long rifle that can sometimes be overlooked is it has 24" short range. It's amazing how much difference it makes not having the -1 to hit for the majority of the shots you are taking.
Having said that, I do agree that it is very expensive for what it does. Very much something I only buy for the status symbol if my warband gets rich.
