| Ahoy! Just been wondering what is the best and easiest way to make good looking dead trees? More looking into how to make trees with thicker trunks, so if anyone has any tips or knows a site that tells you how that would be great -Foot | |

| Much as it pains me say it, the GW plastic trees look pretty good as dead trees. They look absolutely HORRIBLE with their stupid flat leaves on but without them they look pretty good! (These were painted by zelophahad) | |

| Got to agree with you there, they do like nice and I have a box if them waiting to be used at some point But I would like to make my own so I can have unique shapes and could be tangled up in things and have different thickness trees and such. -Foot | |

| In the US the Halloween seasonal stuff should be hitting the shelves soon, if you have a similar holiday down under?
Make your own--check out Deaf's thread in the Scenery Gallery. Wrap lots of wire together in a tree shape, cover it with something (GS, plaster, hot glue, whatever) and paint it. I prefer to use the stems for silk/plastic flowers myself but that's the material that I had the most of.

| @deaf Those are very nice, will have to have a good look thru that site when I get home.
@Von Yep we have Halloween here, but it's not as big as it is in the usa. May have to try the wire option when I get around to tree making.
@Widgren There's a hobby shop by me that sells those trees, not too sure if I like them as much tho, will have to have another look sometime.

| There are usually 3 ways to go with trees. Buy the GW trees. They are not bad a little pricey. Also they are the right scale. Buy trees from a craft store, during the Holidays like Christmas, and Halloween they have decorations, often small villages that they sell and they often include trees. Usually the Christmas ones are covered in snow, and the Halloween ones are spooky. Also after the holidays the price goes down because they want to get rid of them. The scale can be off so you have to be careful. The other option is to make your own. One of the guys I play with is making some out of wire and basically paper mache. They look pretty good and the materials are pretty cheap. You can make them to scale. | |

| Hey foot, maybe i can get you to start to work with plaster while you work on scenery, well, if you want to know how plastermade trees look like take a look on my scenerytopic " Spoooooky swamp terrain, there you can see some really big dead trees, made from wire and plaster. It goes like this: First you take some wire and form the skelleton of the tree, then you take some bandage like those from a first aid kit, cut it in pices of 10 to 15 cm, then put them in almost joghurt like plaster, and then you wrap those plastersoken bandages around the skelleton of your tree. Do this until the whole skelleton is covered by those bandages. The last step is that you mix a fresh plaster watery like joghurt again, and then you dip the whole tree in to it, or use a cup and hale it over the tree structure bit by bit, until you think yout tree trunk is big enough.
Then wait about halve a day, then take a metallbrush, and brush a treetrunkstructure on the almost dry plaster surface, you´ll see, it works really fine, as you can see on my photos,
hope i could help a bit, cheers, floedebolle
