Finally a topic worthy of my attention!
Ever since I was a wee lad, I always enjoyed the beetroot. Not the taste, or even texture, mind you, but rather the way it coulored your urine! Ah, the laughs... I used to stand there on a stool as I hovered above the water closet, painting its inside a reddish brown. Then I realised, beetroot is more purple... and thats how I, at the age of seven, discovered what venereal disease was...
As I matured, and reached the venerable age of the teenager, I discovered alcohol. And being a swede, it was legal for us to buy all ingredients needed to make out own wine. So, we thought, what exiting new beverage shall we make? We took forth our chemistry books and cook books and begun thinking.
"My word..." I said, "... how about a wine made from tulips?"
"Nay" said my comrade in arms and shook his head "That is nay possible I think. How about..." an evil grin across his face as I urged him to continue, to reveal his devious plans...
"... beetroot wine!" he finally said.
"I say, that is a capital idea! Not only will it taste less like alcohol, a taste we are not yet comfortable with, but it will also be a fine pinkish colour!"
We set about our quest...
After a week of brewing, we found to our dismay the wine was NOT AT ALL pinkish purple, but a fine red colour! Forever associating beetroot and the colour red with the incident during my adolescent years, I decided the best way was not to drink red wine henceforth.
The moral of the story: Beetroot can be both purple and red! I prefer the purple tone, though, obviously...
