| ahoy thar, me and one of my friends were discusing giving my necromancer a new spell. he is at a point where he knows every spell in the necromancy spell list with the exception of spell of awakening (fml) and i was jokingly saying well the next time my necromancer gets a skill i'm going to keep rolling on the chart over and over again until i get it, but then he brought up an interesting point that you can usually never re-roll a re-roll, so if i'm rolling for spells does that mean i have to decrease the difficulty of the spell i roll until i naturally roll a six one of two times? assuming that i do infact have to stick with the next spell if i make a spell difficulty zero and i roll it again what happens? also, i was looking at a warlock hired sword that i have and he only has access to academic skills, and i was considering giving him something like wyrdstone hunter or streetwise, but after further reading into the rules it seems that it's only beneficial if a hero is using these skills; am i correct in this assumption. and just a random thought i had while typing this (kinda related i suppose) does lure of chaos persist after the caster is taken OOA? Thanks a bunch for the help guys, AFK TEHZOMBIE! | |

| As for rerolling the spell, I have always interpreted the roll as openended, meaning that you could always reroll again and again if you get a spell you already have.
When it comes to spells with lowered difficulty I guess that you might reach d-level zero, but why should you? D2 should suffice, and if you reach those levels (highly unlikely though it is) it might be time to get some other skills...

| keep re-rolling
the rules are unclear, but forcing you to reduce dif is too prick-like for anybody's good

| As far as I can tell there's no concrete ruling either way, but if a player was down to the last spell on his list and rolled a skill advancement I'd just let him take the last spell without rolling.
The difficulty 2 scenario seems incredibly unlikely, in my opinion, because it requires that the mage first rolls 4 skill advancements to get to the point that he knows all but 1 spell, and then roll 3 more skill advances minimum, all of which have to then roll a 2 on the necromancy spell chart (reducing difficulty of re-animation to 2).
So in short, the likelihood of rolling 7 skills and getting exactly those results, sounds like it's probably ridiculously small.

| IIRC you can't re-roll a re-roll IN THE MIDDLE OF A GAME. Advances are a post-battle sequence, so imo this rule don't apply. Note that in some cases (like wyrdstone search, or serious injury table) the rules ESPECIFICALLY states that IF you decide to use a re-roll, you MUST abide the second result even if it is worst than the first. - Myntokk wrote:

Yeah, we will do just that too. Best wishes.

| To answer your second question, hired swords never do anything in the post game unless thier rules say so. As far as i know, no hired sword adds dice to your search roll, or can look for items. And about the third question, i quote the FAQ: - Quote :
- Q: If in the spell description there is written nothing about how long the
spell lasts, well, how long does it last? To the end of game? A: The spell lasts until the model that casted it is taken Out Of Action. Taking him Out Of Action removes all effects of all spells he casted in the game. [link]
