Anyone playing this game? I have played some rounds but i hate the fact that meele attacks are better than shooting. No real western style Legends of the Old West Icon_cry...

I've always been tempted by this game, but as you say, the melee combat seems to take precedence. That is the exact problem that the D6 Generation guys (good podcast) had with it. They speak about a Western miniature game called Gutshot (http://www.hawgleg.com/).

I'd love to play this, but I don't know anyone who'd play it - my friends are only really into GW games. From what I gather, I think it runs a bit like Inquisitor, in that one player must serve as the "Games master" in the sense that he runs the story etc...

I think the Legends of the High Seas rules benefit from being based on the LotR rules, but a Wild West system does not. This is the only thing that puts me off playing the LotoW game.

I use Fist Full of Lead rules, not a bad system, also Gutshot is well worth it too.

Out of curiosity, can I ask what the strength of an average gun is in LotoW? For instance, in LotR most bows are 2, some of the better races ring in at 3 though. That works out OK for a high fantasy setting where the emphasis is on swordplay and close quarters fighting, but it seems like in an old-west setting to emphasize gun-fighting they should really put gun strength around 3 for smaller pistols and maybe 4 or even 5 for some of the rifles and carbines.

They could also put more emphasis on ranged combat by keeping the number of attacks relatively low, and having more shooting skills than melee.

A six-gun is S3. A heavy pistol is S4. The Sharps Big Fifty is S4. (sad but true) I think it depends on the player's approach. The group I played with hardly ever got into a melee fight.

I actually just saw this game being played for the first time on YouTube (Guerrilla Miniature Games) and it looks awesome...instantly hooked. I want to get some more information though before I get into it. Seems to get mixed reviews.

1. Does anyone have recommendations on where to find a hardcopy of the rule book and expansions?

2. Are the expansions worth having at first or is the core game good enough?

3. I read that the typical starting warband (posse?) is 5-8 models, what is the max number? Trying to see how many models are required.

4. Which miniatures do people use/recommend for western themes?

5. Where do you buy the terrain from? I looked up 4Ground and the terrain they offer looks great. What are people's experiences with them?

6. What does the warband look like after a few games, is everyone on horseback? Are wagons required?

Thanks for the info, just wanted to get some insight before going too deep.
