| The Rats in the Wood! - Grotsmeg wrote:
- (GreySeer Rowland's pirate of Bell Island Vs Zoglug Wood Elves in BUFFADO)
The grey seer stroked his whiskers and stepped over the body of the now dead plague priest, scowling round at the mewling ratmen aboard his ship. "So does anyone else think they have opinions that matter? Feel free to come forward so it can be discussed." All the other skaven knew their place, under the gunwhale Felix gave a wry smile, he was enjoying the political goings on within the skaven ship, something he was happy to be out of, him and his gutter runners didnt need to get involved. "Right you furry skum, get to it, to the boats, we are going on land, time to get some ground under our feet." the grey seer waved his cutlass in the air and the ships deck becames a tide of furry bodies as boats were lowered from the ship to the waterline, each boat overflowing with a mass of fur and muscle. After their victory at vermunte Rowland had come back with a map, and he was using this to plan his campaign, but this campaign was kept secret, not even the warlock engineers on board were privy to his minds content.
After a whole days travel inland from vermunte the hoard entered a land of hills and trees. The clanrats pushed the grey seers bell forward at a snailspace but up ahead there was a clearing. Rowland was pretty confident there would be no surprises as felix and his gutter runners were out there scouting ahead. sure enough Skevin the younger engineer came to report. "Felix reports elves captain, and wood creatures up ahead, i think they are planning an ambush" Rowland stroked his beard thinking to himself. "Well lets take the cheese and spring the trap, and lets turn the trap on them", Quickly he got an overview of what lay ahead, 2 units of bowmen were dug in at the end of a wide opening in the woods and units of dryads and wardancers were on the flanks ready to ambush obviously trying to outflank him.
He send the globadiers up the left flank and kept his stormvermin close to the left flank with his bell being pushed being the unit of slaves and the plague monks to his front right the globadiers he sent through the woods on the left to get a look at the enemy Bow fire rang out and a few of the slaves dropped the ground. "plenty more where they came from, thought the seer as they marched forward, he spotted sowme wardancers and mounted elves skulking in a gap in the woods and between him and his two warlock engineers warp lightning rang out killing all but 1 of the dancers Rowland raise his arms and a horde of rats poured forth in the woods were sounds of a single elf fighting could be heard.
The globadiers spotted an elf eagle and threw their globes wounding the feathered beast, the warplightning cannon blasted out killing 2 of the mounted elves who decided to fall back, with the wardancer. In the woods on the right Felix stayed out of sight of the approaching right flank, spotting a great walking tree in the distance. "better not get too close to that monster" he thought silently to himself"
The elf hoard moved forward on the right flank cautious as they could smell a rat, on the left flank the dark riders rallied and moved back towards the combat and the dryads headed towards the globadiers, the eagle flying of to try hound the warp cannnon. More bowfire rang out and the slaves this time broke, but the seer knew their job was done. He marched forward towards the lines of bowmen sending out more warp lightning and this time the elven bowmen fell from the magic attack. The jezzails joined in killing of the closest unit.
Felix saw a group of wardancers entering the wood and decided to charge, but the elves seemed impervious to both poison and steel, several of the gutter runners fell and the assassin decided this was not his type of fight and fled to ground hoping to make his way back to the ship.
The globadiers chased after the eagle throwing their globes at it slaying the mighty pigeon, whilst skevin seeing a flash of colour in the woods headed off on his own, he was mage hunting. A group of dryads and wardancers had burst from the foilage and the plague monks charged into the dryads oblivious of the treeman behind them. another unit of dark riders were making their way round the back of the woods towards the side of the gunline. The grey seer fired magic at the giant walking tree the lightning setting fire to some of the branches.
The ratling guns let fire and 4 of the wardancers dropped, the jezzails taking out a couple of the dark riders. The Plague monkes seemed to be immortal as they hacked apart the dryads breaking them, and charging headlong into the burning tree. In the woods Skevin shot out his warpLightning and the lone wood elf witch was left a smoldering heap, he kicked her body aside rumaging for anything useful, spotting a few scrolls he stuffed them in his hip sack.
The 2 remaining wardancers tried to attack the plague monks but couldnt hurt them and was cut down by the frenzied unit. but the treeman slew 4 with his big trunk like arms, but he realised he was against a foe that didnt care and as he broke the monks carved their names in his bark. The dark riders charged the jezzails who cut down another from gunfire. but were then broken and hacked down as the riders rode into the warp cannon crew. narrowly missing the rallied slaves.
Skevin joined his stormvermin unit and the screaming bell charged across the battlefield their magic attacks decimating the bowmen on the hill. The glabadiers being surrounded one one side by 3 dryads and the other by 2 riders decided to make their way out of battle towards the riders, they threw the globes killing another rider and the remaining 2 rode off broken.
The 3 dryads charged the globadiers who ran off laughing at the dryads but the warp cannon crew were cut down. But the ratling guns were still in operation and were set to line up the remaining 3 dryads and 2 dark riders, and the wood elves knew that the ambushers had become the ambushed.

| Week One News:We’re back mates, and no mistake! And so we’re back. Back to campaigning on the pirate isle! Huzzah! Yaaarrr! &c! Even though the island has been united under a single black banner, in the typical fashion of pirate politics divisions between internal factions have erupted once more into open hostilities, so nothing really changes. The thrice-cursed Naval Alliance is even here trying to bring their brand of so called law and order to Sartosa. All this over a bit o’ gold plate an’ all. Apparently the trincket what everyone is calling Rackham’s Key was engraved with names of Sartosan towns before it was broke into four bits. Why? Blessed if I know mate. The first part has been located and secured by the Black Gulf Corsairs. It wasn’t dropped into the briny as that fool Rackham instructed but it was given to an inn keeper to pay off a thirsty sea captain’s bar tab. It was discovered nailed to the wall above the bar in the Waterlogged Monkey tavern in Caprio. Let’s face it though, whether ye be honest pirate, back-stabbin’ buccaneer or even indolent landlubber, the discovery of a lost city of the Old Ones, stuffed to the gunwales with Ancient Treasures is always good news. As the fair weather o’ the summer months evanesces before our very eyes, there is small consolation to be had in the thought of a full glass o’ grog and a warm fire for the months beyond. Keep ye powder dry! http://www.flameon.co.uk/sartosa4/ | |

“What do you think, Strongbog?” the goat asked the minotaur.
“Don't be daft” said the shaman. “Minotaurs can't talk”.
“Oh yes”.
“Moo!” went the minotaur.
“I say we charge them” gobbled the goat.
“I say we don't”.
“Well, too bad 'cos I'm the boss. CHAAARGE!”
And the forest behind them spat forth a horde of slobbering livestock.
* * *
“RETREAT!”
They were running away, the goat-fiend and the minotaur and the shaman. The three had all died, but for fluff reasons they had magically survived.
“That was close” gasped the goat.
“Very close” wheezed the shaman.
“I'll say” boomed the minotaur.
“What? Minotaurs can talk” said the shaman.
And they all ran away.

| The Wardens on Monte Castello - blessed knight wrote:
The battle for Madgar's Observatory.
The ash from the recent eruptions had settled thickly on this edge of the lake. In the distance, Wilhelm could see a number of Boats landing at the waters edge, their bearing brought them straight from Dogfish Cove.
Wheeling his horse the Lord Prospero raised the Widowmaker aloft.
'Men of the Empire! For too long these Orc Pirates have been given free reign in our waters. Come this Day we take back what is ours and will send a message to the low creatures of this Isle that Piracy will no longer be tolerated. Make ready your weapons for this day we have that message to send.'
Riding to his knights, Prospero signalled the army to take battle formations.
'Give no quarter! ATTACK!'
Looking to the signalers guild on the hill he indicated his preferred targets.
As the Knights started towards the orcs at a slow trot, the warmachines took careful aim. Rockets and shells sailed over the advancing knights and plunged into the depths of Warboss Kurgans bodyguard.
Old Fergus laughed as his shot hit the mark. It was petty payback but at least it'd teach the old orc to cheat a gunner at dice.
A group of Squid hoppers leapt towards the knights, much to the dismay of Kurgan as they failed to reach the knights and effectively blocked them from view.
Sneering in Contempt Prospero's knights rode straight through them, leaving bloody smears in their wake, over-running into the waiting Black orcs and Kurgans lads.
A counter charge by kurgan's pet Fish-Troll failed to slow them as Prospero's Hammer cut a bloody swathe through the black orcs.
Elsewhere on the battlefield, a constant barrage had broken the orc advance with only a single unit capitalizing on Kurgan's Enraged Waaggh. Morgana, infused with the bears anger, led her swordsmen into battle and after a long drawn out brawl, managed to break the orcs.
Things were not going well for Kurgan either. The combined might of the knights and Prospero's Widowmaker (an ancient artifact akin to Ghal Maraz) broke his battle line.
The Black orcs and troll were caught and killed, but alas Kurgan escaped to fight another day.
Win for naval Alliance in the Volcanic Lake. Huzzah!

| Da Kronicles of Adm'rul Kurgan Grimjaw - Book 6
13th August, the year nine.
Be-knighted and be-rocketted
In a smoke-filled corner of the bar in the Swinging Lead tavern, the three pirate first mates stared into their pints. “I didn’t even know where Monte Castello was until last week – how the zog did that git Prospero keep it a secret all this time? That’s what I wants to know.” grumbled Grognog.
“Yeah, and why was he masqueradin’ as a Pirate? I don’t believe that tale of him being in exile for one minute.” said Salty Ogbad with a sneer.
“So he just turns up on a nag with a gang of chumbuckets, a shiney suit of armour and a dirty great magic ‘ammer?” said Badrot in disgust. “Where was he hiddin’ that lot?”
“I dunno, but they gave us a right thrashing. Them rockets was especially hard on the Hogwashas – if’n our gunners hadn’t mashed up the rocket crews we would have suffered even harder.” said Grognog.

| @Von Kurst: Yup on both counts!! - zelophahad wrote:
- Okay, here's my warband's new special rule for this campaign. It's partly designed to offset the power of the piggies (although it will, hopefully, affect everyone at some stage!):
- Quote :
- Swine Flu
Every model taking part in a game involving an infected warband must roll D6 after the game. On a 1 the model contracts swine flu and must miss its next game, ‘off sick’.
Any warband with one or more models off sick counts as infected for that game. Warbands that include pigs or boars always count as infected even if no models are off sick.
A hero or henchman group will only contract swine flu once in a campaign before they develop immunity. Make a note on the roster (beware ‘recycling’ models and names – if a hero or henchman group is completely replaced it will of course be liable to contract swine flu again).

| 17th August, the year nine. The Cod and Cutlass Inn, Vercuso. Hog and BotheredThe Catering Corp attacked the Cod and Cutlass inn while they were counting their loot. The Ogresuns defended aggressively and held off the half-sized halfwits. “What’s that one?” said Barnacle Nog as he held up a small silver coin for Hogbreff Wyrdtoof the Shaman to examine. “Um.. I think it’s a Khemrian sheckle.” said the Shaman dismissively. “Oh.” said Nog and he bit the suspect coin experimentally. It seemed to pass muster and he threw it onto a pile of other random silver coins. The Ogresuns were huddled together around a sea-chest, each grabbing a handful of gold and silver coins and industriously sorting them into piles of similar weight and type. The tallow candle flickered and went out and for the first time they realised it was well past dawn. Wyrdtoof yawned and stretched and rubbed his head. As the crew’s navigator and Shaman (and mainly because he could get past fifteen) it fell to him to do most of the actual counting and his head was sore. “We should get this lot aboard before one o’ the other bands gets wind of it.” he said. The others nodded but didn’t seem willing to stop pawing through the glittering heap. Unlike normal Orcs they were obsessed with treasure – gold particularly – they could barely contain their avarice. The Starboard watch stood guard in the upper story of the inn and the pie shop, crossbows at the ready but they mostly watched the division of the booty. The first they knew of the Halfling attack was when Throg was hit in the arm but a brightly painted arrow. “What the duce?” said Dubloon Dreg as he gawped at his ship-mate for a few seconds. Then he gathered his wits and looked around. Two cheeky pink faces peered out from the top floor of the building opposite the pie shop. “On deck there: Halflings ahoy!” he yelled. “Hide the loot!” cried Barnacle Nog and he scooped the carefully piled coins back into the chest higgledy-piggledy. Wyrdtoof groaned in dismay at the lost night’s work. “You little gritz get up there and stop them a-shootin of us!” growled Kommodor Deffgit as arrows started raining down, particularly around him, from the top of the stone arches. The Kabin Grotz scampered away to find a ladder. Blind Fug squinted down the bolt of his crossbow and squeezed the trigger: Gordo Rams-eye fell, clutching the bolt that was suddenly protruding from his chest. A few moments later, after some hurried re-drawing and reloading a second Halfling went down. Fug chuckled to himself and drew chalk tallies on his crossbow’s side. Over in the pie shop’s attic Dubloon Dreg lost his temper with the diminutive assailants and ran roaring down the gang plank towards the grinning mugs of Bill and Ted. The Halflings laughed as they knew the Orc would not be able to reach their lofty perch, but Dreg had other plans: he turned and sprinted back along the gang plank then with a roar he leapt across the 30 foot gap between buildings to the house across the alley. Faygin Bolger, the Halfling thief who was hiding in that ruin was shocked to the core to see nearly 200 pounds of Orc Pirate sailing through the air towards him. He was less surprised to see the pirate disappear from view and plummet to the cobbles bellow! The Kabin Grotz got halfway up the long walkway to the Catering Corp’s position when Bob, The Butcher of Dumplington, came waddling down to meet them. The Halfling Chef sent Stormy Trug tumbling off the walkway with a girly screem and Dirty Morgun followed when one of the Chef’s chums hit him with an arrow. The pigs came squealing and snorting into the Cod and Cutlass and knocked poor Wyrdtoof off his feet. The porcine invaders mercilessly mauled the Shaman before the rest of the Ogresuns fell upon them with murderous intent and slaughtered three quarters of them. “Take that an smoke it ye little zoggers!” called Deffgit and waved his boarding axe at the distant Halflings in jubilant celebration. Their assault was broken and they were falling back carrying the limp bodies of three or four of their mates. ~ ~ ~ | |
