| Hey people.
I've got a Mercenaries box on order from the UK and was planning on making a 'universal' warband of blokes (using some extra bits as well) that can be played as all three main Mercenary warbands. Has anyone else done the same thing? I'm thinking that the models won't be 100% true to life (i.e. Marienburgers not looking rich/Reiklanders without heaps of feathers/Middenheimers not looking feral) but it would make having a Merc warband so much more interesting.
Any replies would be appreciated.

| For skirmish games this is a good idea. For campaign games (99% of the time, because it's more fun) I don't really see the point: When you choose a warband, and it evolves through the game, you can't really change the mercenaries's attributes from one game to another. In other words: If you start the campaign with middenheimers, then you have to finish it with the same middenheimers or start a new warband. So there isn't really a point in making an "all-round" warband for campaigns, since you aren't allowed to swap the warband's rules during the campaign. Sorry _________________ | |

| I think Steve simply wants to be able to play three warbands, all with the models of one warband. I think this is a very good idea and I don't see any problems there. Youy, Steve, mentioned that the warband is not really specific, but what about having an extra model for the warband leader of every band? A beardy guy dressed in fur with a huge axe or hammer for the Middenheimer, a young noble with expansive cloths and a brace of the findest duelling pistols you can get this days for the Marienburger and a hardened veteran with a good, solid sword for the Reikländer. This way, you don't have to buy many models, but you can play three different warbands, and you have a specific leader, which helps identifying the type of mercenary warband your currently playing. Hope that I could help | |

I think that's a good idea... maybe have some extra models that are definitely part of each faction... archers / burly ax fighers / freshly-dressed swordsmen.. And Steve that's a good idea too... cause who knows what warband ur going to fall in love with. Ya Know? peac

| I'm thinkin I might take the advice and get a leader for each warband.. Its just that Mordheim figures are fairly hard to come by in Australia (All Mordheim stuff has to be ordered from GW UK or off Ebay) so each of them I may have to find in the Empire range..

Remember it doesn't have to be official Mordheim figures. =) so really any other game/modeling company could work. I'm sure there are some good ones around.

Same for me here in Malta unfortunately,,,the thing is we only have one Tabletop Gaming store here and they don't get Mordheim models , only Warhammer and LOTR. The idea of using the same models for all Mercenaries Warbands kinda sounds cool and economical. But the thing is, although i don't apply the WYSIWYG rule, I'd prefer if Reiklanders looked like Marksmanship Experts and Middenheimers looking Feral etc etc But at the end of the day it's your choice m8!! | I've put my warband together using the Militia box (which is fantastic for arming troops) and I've decided i'm going to purchase 2-3 Youngbloods and perhaps the Empire General boxed set for bits and make some heroes that are a little more fancy.
I played with them for the first time the other day using some plastic models (which I made from the militia sprue) as my Captain and Champions (the list was without youngbloods) and I had a lot of fun with them. I used them as Reiklanders and was playing against a very shooty/wardoggy Witch Hunter warband. I can't wait to play with them again.
