hey, i was wonder what kind of paints everybody uses here. is it the "official" GW paints or do you guys have your own special brands or favorites you use? i have a freind who owns a hobby store and i get anything for pretty cheap, but he doesnt carry GW stuff, or GW paints. i'm hoping to save some money by using some other paint brands. what have you guys worked with?

GW - The paints are good but overpriced and dry out too quickly.

Coat d'arms - these guys used to be the GW maufacturers so the quality is pretty similar for 90% of the range as are the colours themselves (Dark Elf Green = Dark Angel green). The paints themselves are slightly 'thinner' than GW's but I've only found this to be a benefit.

. Foundry - The best paints I've ever used; quality is really high, good consistecy, handy filing system (check them out to see what I mean...),don't dry out.

P3 - I've yet to use these myself but a friend of mine who does comission work has said that they're the best paints he's ever used.

Hope this has bee of some help.

GW has a pretty standard rate of around $3 per little jar of paint, give or take .50 cents or so

I use Americana, Folk Art, &, recently Ceramcoat; these are acrylic "craft" paints available from Michael's or similar good craft stores. They have a VERY long shelf life, have proved to do a FINE job, have a wide range of colors, AND are 1/12 the price of GW's paints. Since I use a LOT of paint, price IS a key factor.
If I were to go with a more conventional "hobby" paint, I think I'd choose Vallejo or Foundry for the range of colors & quality. Deaf Nala Smiley

I use Vallejo Model Color (except 2 or 3 paints from Game Color; they're also good). I think it was a good choice, because their price is not so high and they have better quality.
