| Looks great! Really good! I like it a lot. I like the idea as it looks very very Mordheimish - cometstruck and all. I hope you take the time to paint it the way it deserves. Maybe stop painting when you run out of time and finish it later instead of rushing it. Anyways, keep us posted! | |

Thank you, I hope I can too. (I'm a perfectionist, so I'm sure I will... I just litterally have to have it done in a week. =( and I'm having a heck of a time making colors for the walls. Anyone have any good tips on how to make good colors for walls? I am not satisfied with any of my creations =( Thanks

| at poor Voltaire's Magic Shop. The simple way is to paint it grey. I usually do that because I'm too lazy to paint it in red or beige. | |

| Awesome sign Ashton! You have a very steady hand. I admire that, because when it comes to painting letters, I either need hours to complete them or I keep trembling and screwing them up "Voltaire" as in "Voltaire the french author from the 18th century"? Hmmmm...as far as tips are concerned.... maybe make the walls a dirty faded dark RED. Since it's a magic shop maybe that somewhat excentric colour is appropriate. But you'll have to try it first anyway. _________________ | |

Yep, many people didn't know that before he became famous as an author, he owned a chain of magic shops in Mordheim. Luckily he was visiting his parents in a neighboring town for new years when the comet crashed into Mordheim, killing everyone and knocking his research tower over. Thanks for the tips guys, I'll give it a try.

| Heh heh heh, looks like you are going to follow through with the suggestion for having a sign with the magic shop's special for the week: "Special sale: catch a comet's tail" I really like this model, and I hope you win in the contest. You have been doing a lot of work on it, and it has been really fun watching you build it. Yep, I am a member over there too.... I really liked your ideas and blog-like discussion about basing (to base terrain or not) over there. I have been SO tempted to throw some ideas about basing out on Da Warpath and see what that takes us. I totally agree with your points and decisions about not basing this thing. Oh, and the wall color thing...I use cheaper craft acrylics from stores like Hobby Lobby or Walmart for this kind of thing. I start by painting a black undercoat and worked the grey scale from there (dark grey nest, 50/50 with a dolphin grey, dolphin grey and finally an ivory highlight). Here is a watchtower I worked on a while ago: Black undercoat Sample stone Final tower The brand of acylic paint is Folk Art or Delta Ceramcoat (in arts and crafts stores). Sure, it is not GW paint, but it does the trick for about $1 (US) a pot rather than $4 (US). I hope that helps a bit.... Good luck finishing it up, mate! Goomb | |

| Hi Goomb!
Haha, that's great. Are you "Goomb" on TG too, or do you have a different name?
Thanks for the tips. That's a very well painted tower. I think the grey works great on bricks, but I want to give my wall a color, but I can't get one I like. I've tried a couple, and I'll post some pictures soon so I can get your feedback.
thanks again, | |

| Indeed. That is me, mate, same as Da Warpath, Warhammer-Empire, etc. I need to wander over to TG and take a peek!
Well, it was an idea for stone walls. I can't wait to see what you come up with!

| Hey guys! I've base painted everything black, and then did the drybrushing on the pile of rubble. Here's a how I did it: I First did a "heavy drybrush" of dark gray all of the broken cement in the pile of rubble (I don't care if I get the wood painted, cause I'll come back for that). Then I did a lighter shade of gray and drybrushed it on a little lighter. And then I repeated that last step 2 or 3 more times! Voila: Click Here to EnlargeClick Here to EnlargeClick Here to EnlargeClick Here to EnlargeI also set up a cool overlapping image on my blog so you can see the Before and After DryBrushingEnjoy | |

| This is really interesting. How are you going to treat this ruin during the game? Will models be able to walk/run on the debris? Will it be considered as "difficult terrain"? What about models so heavy (or so unbalanced) that they are going to fall because the ruin ground is uneven? This is a great idea of building, really! Oh and if you post more pics, could you please put one of your models on the ruin to see the scale? Cheers! | |

What about models so heavy (or so unbalanced) that they are going to fall because the ruin ground is uneven? I've thought about this a little and it will probably be considered difficult terrain (which I blieve means they can only walk; never run). There are some spots an ogre can stand, so the ogre will have to get to that spot before he can stop walking. - Tortiou wrote:
