Chris' Hired Swords - Warlock, Pit Fighter and Troll Slayer

Bought these miniatures when Mordheim first came out, the Hired Swords were something of a love of mine. I still remember the day I weeded my grandmas garden and swept the yard and she gave me £10, which I promptly ran to the Model Shop with and bought the Ogre Bodyguard! Sadly he's long gone, but I still have the following guys who I recently repainted as I returned to the hobby!

Warlock



I'd converted this guy years ago, removing the wyrdstone shard from the end of his staff and the candles on his shoulders for a more basic looking Warlock. First time round he had a Skaven blade in place of the shard, now he has a Brettonian Halberd blade. I love the effect that I got with the rust on his blade, which sparked a love of that technique for me for a while Probably my favourite of the hundred or so minis I've painted since getting back in the hobby!

Pit Fighter



Another great characterful figure, lost/broke the morning star part very quickly when I bought him all those years ago so it was replaced with the plastic skeleton kit one, now it finally has the older metal marauder morning stars!

Troll Slayer



From the standard bearer from the Troll Slayer unit, this guy got an axe-head on the chopped down banner pole. Happy with the hair and rust again, I wanted him looking like a drunken dwarf who'd managed to stumble to Mordheim, had gone even crazier and couldn't be bothered with dying his hair or cleaning his weapons, just getting drunk on grog every night of the week!

I think we have found a new master of "rusty metal" effects!

Would you mind going through the technique you used for the warlock's blade in the painting and modelling section? (Feel free to open a new thread there!)
