Hi,

As per instructions, a bit about myself.

I started collecting and painting lead soldiers about 40 years ago, and jumped on the Citadel band wagon about 30 years ago, and I’ve painted an army of most races/factions for almost all the games GW have produced since then.

In the past 5 years I’ve mostly been doing historical games, and I’m currently painting a 15mm Napoleonic army.

Over the last 5 years I’ve come to realise that the games I have enjoyed playing the most have been GW games, so once the Napoleonics are done I’m going to paint a WFB army and then a 40k army and get back to some enjoyable games.

I stopped doing GW games largely because I don’t like plastic figures, so my main source of figures has been eBay and the Market boards of the forums that I haunt.

I like a lot of the Mordheim figures and as I’m primarily a painter I’ll probably be found hanging round the painting boards, and as one of my regular gaming buddies is a big Mordheim fan, and you only need about a dozen figures for a Warband, I’ll probably be slipping in a Warband before work commencers on the WFB army.

Cheers

Steve

Welcome! It'll be good to have even more masterful content in the modelling section to drool over.

Others probably know more about this than I do, but I believe that GW in the past few years increased the technology of their plastic such that they are able to have much higher detail on the minis. If you haven't yet, you might want to give one of the newer GW plastic boxes a shot, you might be pleasantly surprised. If your beef is with working with the plastic material itself, then you can disregard that, but I believe several other companies are trying to switch to plastic right now (Reaper for one). It might be hard to find new metal minis in another decade.

Welcome aboard! Another Master within our midst. Like you, I love the older metal minis. While I do own alot of plastic ones, and think that some of them are really well done, I just enjoy the older metal ones and how they take the paint. Anywhos WELCOME!

Welcome! As a plastic-generation gamer I really have nothing against placcy minis, they're much easier to cut!

Hello there!

Welcome to the board.

I'll agree with most youger gamers about plastic being an irreversible tendency.

I'm an "old" gamer, but actually prefer plastic (The rigid GW kind, not the soft crap), because it's light to carry around, a model can accidentally drop but most of the time it will bounce without permanent damage and it's easier to cut and glue.

But metal has something to it...

Well. Welcome and hope you enjoy your stay with us.

Also, GW plastic actually has a higher melting point than white-metal, I was playing outdoors once and we left our minis in the sun, and my Necromancer's sword drooped (so now he has a scimitar) Sad .

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.
I really don't want to make a big thing over my dislike of plastics and I realise that some people like them, but personally I do not. Anyhow theres plenty of metal around including the pile in the garage, the pile in the loft, in the sideboard, our bedroom..... to keep me entertained for years yet.
I should have the Napoleonic's finished in a week or two, once they are finished I'm looking forward to painting some 28's, I don't suppose anyone here is interested in 15mm, so once I get a few 28's done I'll post some photos.
Thanks again
Steve

Actually, I'm seriously considering changing scale to 15mm, as a whole army cost far less, but I already have too much 28mm... Rolling Eyes

Well, anyhow You can post pictures of your army, and I'm shure we all will enjoy your work.

Best wishes.
