Starting a Campaign system at the Local store Empty
PostSubject: Starting a Campaign system at the Local store   Starting a Campaign system at the Local store Icon_minitimeMon 12 Jan 2009 - 22:36

Hey all,

I've been working towards the ultimate goal of getting Mordheim established at the local shop in a big way. I'm talking a full scale campaign system that will take just a little bit of upkeep to keep it rolling.

I'm thinking of sticking with the core book for now, and more things can be added in as we advance through the year. A lot of folks make modifications to equipment costs (light armor stands out in my mind from the campaign I was in). I'd like to hear some suggestions, should I keep everything as is in the book? Or should certain things be dropped in price and others increased?

I figured that a 6 week campaign rotation could work out nicely for the length of the campaigns. Any insight there? Is 6 weeks (2 games a week) too short? Too Long? Just right? At the end of week 6, every warband returns to their homelands, and a new fresh faced warband takes their place ^_-.

As we go through campaigns, I want to add more warbands and more rules. Keeping things fresh. But at a certain point, I think everything should go back to square one, with just the core book.

I've also thought of maybe using a Map Driven system. No real details, but I think maps help folks get more 'into the city' if you see what I'm getting at. It gives that extra sense of immersion. Do any of you have any good ideas on how to impliment something like this? I'd love to hear some suggestions.

Anyways, I think that's all I've got for now, more details as I work them out with some of the locals ^_^. Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to give!

Good ideas! Get the map, and post it at the Store. a ONE page (or less) update of each player's adventures would allow non-players to follow the campaign and get interested.

ALSO... get a basic mercenary warbands ready (with a Roster) at the store. People may want to try the game. Make sure you get the store people involved... as this could be a sell point for a $30 box of minis. Very Happy

GOOD LUCK!

Check out this thread link. In it is another link to a massive Mordheim rulebook and it has a ton of scenarios and in fact some of the scenarios are based on actually sites in the city of Mordheim. These can be modified to your gaming group and can represent easily for a map based campaign.

Try pointing out to people that their WHFB minis can be used i Mordheim. And, failing that, if two people club together for a militia box you can get a fully functioning warband for £9!

Excellent point Chad.

Warhammer models can make great Mordheim models.

Hey all, thanks for the input ^_^. Luckily, I'm quickly finding out that folks are more than receptive to the idea of playing Mordheim. There are a ton of folks that already have warbands ready to go, and a bunch of others that are intrigued by the idea of the game, even a few that are building warbands right now in prep for the start of the campaigns!

The map based campaign system could be interesting, the only issue is how to impliment it. My thoughts right now are to have a map of the city broken up into territories. When you play a game, you play against someone in either your territory or theirs. Different territories will give different benefits (either while playing in them, or an overall campaign benefit). You do not have to attack adjacently to your own territories, using hidden tunnels or jumping from building to building to get to your destination. Winning nets you the scenario win as well as the territory fought in.

Basically the map is merely a visual representation of who's doing best in the city. I don't want it to be the MAIN component to the campaign though. It's just there to foster a sense of accomplishment as people play though the campaign. I really feel that it could end up being a very fun addition to the game.

Grey Death...did you check out the link I supplied?

Also in one of the Town Cyers is something based remotely on a map campaign.

If I can locate I will post a link to it.

Made this after snagging that map Mord ^_^:

Starting a Campaign system at the Local store Mordheim-Sector-Map

I'm thinking I can keep it like so and just have a copy of the real map for folks to look at with it.

Transparency colored using dry erase markers can distinguish what belongs to who.

Now I need to come up with some very simple modifier rules for each sector. I don't want to get too crazy with them, just simple stuff like "+D6 Gold per battle" for Holding the "Rich Quarter" etc.

I'm going to use the link provided before with the rules for encampments to help provide some additional inspiration when coming up with these.

Any help with modifiers would be greatly appreciated ^_-.

All battles will be held over a territory. I'm thinking a simple roll off will determine who is the attacker and who is the defender. Attacker getting to choose where he wants to attack. Sound easy and fair enough?

+

If the one Player owns no territories they are automatically the Attacker

If neither player owns a territory, you are fighting purely for survival!

This map is on mordheimer.com with territory rules already, in the download section if I'm not mistaken.

Very good call x.x.

I didn't see past the map (selective eyesight and all). I'll have to give this a read tomorrow sometime. Thanks for the re-heads up >.>.

My group plays campaigns for 14 weeks, or until we are tired of playing the uber warband. 6 weeks may be a good time frame for beginning players because its not a big commitment. I would miss seeing my characters have a chance to become the heroes that I envision when I start the warband, if I only played 6 weeks.
We're currently in week 10 and the highest warband is 370 or so with the rest of us strung out from there.

Is the 2 games a night a "you may only play 2 games" or just an average number? With starting warbands we get an easy 3 games a night in (playing from 6-9 pm) with some people playing 4. I the ability to play several games in an evening to be a big drawing card for the game.

Cool
