Hi everybody

I have been thinking - and studying my rulebook lately A few thoughts about spells 2194
As a result I have a few questions to throw out into the forum.

1) - Does spells such as Lure of Chaos, Vision of Torment, Word of Pain, Lifestealer, Dread of Aramar, Soulfire, etc. require line of sight (i.e. can they go through walls and what about hidden models) - I know that spells such as Fires of U-Zhul and Silver Arrows of Arha does require line of sigth - but what about the rest.

2) - What happens to a Magister, whos cast Dark Blood and has more than 1 wound - does the spell inflict one wound on the magister or what?

Let me know your thoughts

No idea about question 1.

Regarding question 2, I was always under the impression that the Magister had to roll on the injury table regardless of how many wounds he had. Think of it as magical feedback from casting the powerful spell. He needs a moment to catch his breath, hence the Knocked Down or Stunned results only.

Note that he doesn't have to reduce his Wounds value in this case,. He may be lying on the ground, but he's still tough.

I should also reiterate that this is how I have always dealt with it and not necessarily the way it is meant to be handled.

I don't have the spell listings in front of me so in general, unless noted by the spell LOS is needed.

Cut and paste the spell rules so we can see exactly what you are talking about without everyone looking up the material in redudance.

Nothing is mentioned in the general rules about spells and LoS.
In some spell descriptions like Fires of U'zhul it says the first model in its path - meaning LoS (imo). Can Fires of U'zhul hit a model that is hidden (i.e. in cover), but within LoS???

Our group uses a general "common sense" rule... if you can't see the target, you can't aim a spell at it. Of course, this also means you can target a model further back, and hit an unseen model that is closer...

But in general, we basically say that if the caster can't see enough to target (like a shooter), he doesn't have valid target to "cast" at.

Q: Regarding spells which have a Range, is the 'area of affect' a plane or a sphere? (i.e., does Soulfire affect enemy models above the caster (or below) if they fall within the spells radius).
A: It affects models above and below. (The wording is WITHIN the range). [Tuomas, Mordheim Yahoo! eGroups' FAQ]

Q: If a spell does not specifically state that Line Of Sight is needed, do obstacles or buildings prevent a model within range from being hit?
A: No. [Tuomas, Mordheim Yahoo! eGroups' FAQ]

We play that you have o be able to see the target (doesn't mater how much, this is magic).
