Greetings,

Every now and then I reread the Main Books and Town Cryers. Sometimes, I glean information I hadn’t noticed before. Mostly because, I haven’t used that strategy or circumstance. I recently came across a piece I hadn’t used before.

I have a Vampire who had been gaining some good skill and weapon combos. While reading through TC22. I noticed in Marianna Chevaux, a DP. Her special rules list seems standard for Vampires. But this one made me question something. “No Pain: Marianna treats a stunned result on the injury chart as a knocked down instead (note that with her Jump Up ability Mariana cannot be knocked down either so the only way to stop her is to take her out of action!) Since “Jump Up” is a skill and not an ability, the wording is standard for anyone with the skill. In Marianna’s case it doesn’t list her as a Special Ability combined with Jump Up. The wording for the Jump Up skill: “The warrior can regain his footing in an instant, springing to his feet immediately if he is knocked down. The warrior may ignore knocked down results when rolling for injuries, unless he is knocked down because of a successful save from wearing a helmet or because he has the No Pain special rule.”

I had read Marianna first and thought it I had found something new to me, for my vampire. Until I read the Skill in the Main Book. Which clearly counters the Marianna’s Skill version. I’ve looked through my several versions of FAQ and found nothing for this description.

How have any of you treated this? Naturally, I should consider this a special circumstance for Marianna only and not available for any other Vampire, with the same skill set. Also, that a Vampire with the No Pain rule and Jump Up Skill would treat a Stunned result as a Knock Down, then stands up next round.

What are your thoughts?

No rules or equipment applicable to DPs should be transferred into the main rule set. Each is unique and special.

It’s a cool model for the Lahmian character whomis traitor to her own kind. She hasn’t appeared elsewhere and at 75 gold crowns upkeep I’ve seen anyone feeling flush enough to pay her rates!

She does stacked with more skills than it seems possible to learn in a lifetime!

As for the exception, or misinterpretation of how the exception won’t usually be valid, I take it nobody has considered the designer’s intent or even managed to quiz Nick about it?

Rules As Written, I think it means any Vampire with Jump Up could ignore Injuries short of going out of action. But your interpretation (Marianna is a special case: other Vampires treat Stunned as Knocked Down even if they have Jump Up) seems fair & fun. Vampires are dangerous enough already!

Often certain possible combinations raise questions that aren't addressed in any FAQ. Given the standing of Mordheim in relation to 'official rules', it's easy to just agree the sort of fixes that seem fun & fair.

I'm inclined to go with, its a special circumstance for Marianna and not the same for all Vampires. Vampires are tough, yes, and stronger with XP. That compensates for have the members being weaker. My Vampire has gotten pretty good. But still only one compared to the rest of the band. I still do enjoy the Undead.

Hello, long time gone, returning to Mordheim at the request of my eldest progeny. I know this response is a little late to this thread, however the last Mordheim Rules Review I saved (back on 6/18/2009) updated Jump Up to read the following:

Page 123, Jump Up
Replace the last sentence with:
“The warrior may ignore knocked down results when rolling for injuries, unless he is knocked down because of a successful save from wearing a helmet or because he has the No Pain special rule.”

Since this was ruled after Marianna's appearance in Town Cryer 22, we do not allow her special consideration, but I do agree with others in this thread that it would be appropriate for her, and her alone, to do so.

Unfortunately, the Mordheim Rules Review doc I have isn't specifically dated/sourced within the doc, and I didn't note where I saved it from, however it is my folder of official rules, so I'm pretty sure I got it from the Specialist Games website when it was up.
