Building a new Mordheim plate

Heho Mordies,

a few weeks ago i started to plan a new Board for Mordheim. Our old one was a thick wooden plate with green paint. Its was big and a problem was it tooks to many place  if you don´t play.

So wer were searching for another idea.
It should be small, and thick enough to play on.

So i found this plates at the store.



And a nice wallpaper wich is wonderful for our board.



What we also need is glue, a thick one to fill the gaps on top of the board and glue for wood, a lot of paint and time.

First step:

Use the thick glue on top of the board , then put the wallpaper on it and let it dry, about 24 hours.



After waiting you can cut the wallpaper in size or, what i did, I glued it to the sides.

Now we are finished and we can start painting.

I used normal paint for walls wich you can get at the store.
I took a anthrazit grey, and a brown, whit and black.

First use the grey colour to paint the underground. after a few hours waiting I washed it with a mix of brown and black.





After another few hours of waiting we can drybrush the board with a mixture of gry and brown.

Now its almost done but its not easy to staple the board without rubbing away the paint, so i decided to use a carpet made of felt, wich has a size of 40x40cm



the good thing about that felt is, it has glue on the backside.
After a few workingsteps i was finished with my board.





So i hope you like it and you try to build your own board for Mordheim.

The next step ist to build higher grounds with stairs ... stay tuned,

Thanks for your reply, the houses are bought on Ebay from UK, we almost bought our houses, only a few were handmade by us.
We play next Thursday and then we make some pictures with all our houses and stuff

That's a very cool pattern you found there. The effect looks really good. Very effective.

The wallpaper is the  9417 Patent Decor Wallpaper
it costs about 20 Euro, it is also good for figurebases.

Excellent use of the wallpaper! Quick and affordable. And super effective too!

Thanks A LOT for the specifics. I found this on Amazon for only 16,95 and free shipping. I actually think that I will purchase it just to make a cheap and quick table from this. It really is too tempting... the cost/effect ratio is great - your pictures are too convincing.   

Chris, I'm surprised you didn't know about this. I could've mentioned this to you as I have a sample of this wallpaper!

And on more positive news, wallpaper when glued and basecoated is super resistant. I once forgot my board outside (I was doing some shots with natural light) and it stayed there all night under the pouring rain. The next morning I went to collect it from the garden, soaked it and guess what? It remained unchanged and with the paint still on it!!

OH BABY! That is a WONDERFUL gaming board. BEAUTIFULLY WELL DONE!   

Very atmospheric! Love the close-up shots, the tall, imposing buildings and the random clutter.

It does 'feel' like Mordheim!

That is a BEAUTIFUL Gaming Board. It has a delightfully cluttered look to it that perfectly fits the Mordheim feel. VERY WELL DONE!   

So not only is the board very cool and very time-efficient, it looks splendid with all that scenery and figs running around too!

How 'strong are those bauplattes? Could I, for instance, attach some hinges to them?

the plates are made of a sort of Styrodur. Much stronger than Styropor with a cover of extremely hard mesh on it. So Styrodur is not that strong to put screws in it.

hinges won´t work because the screws getting loose.

last night I finished a new part for our table.



here with a building



its a prototype for more of them filling up our table with higher groundings.

The wallpaper idea is terrific, I'll have to try it out soon.
