PostSubject: "Translating" BtB Campaign Objectives to Mordheim    Thu 9 Aug 2012 - 12:01

Well, I´m currently writing the background for my Mordheim campaign and altough I just fell in love with the BtB setting, some of the Campaign objectives does not "translate" much to a full city-based Mordheim campaign...

I´m currently reworking some aspects of it, but would like to know if someone else here has done the same and maybe get some feedback and experience on this?

I´ve tried to Seach into the forum but so far nothing really useful appeared, apart from one post that made reference to a material like this, but I failed miserably to find it... scratch

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,

Arcuballis

http://boringmordheimforum.forumieren.com/t3960-new-objectives?highlight=BTB+Objectives+converted+to+Mordheim

Rudeboy started a thread awhile back. It seems Opheliate was also working on something similar, but I have no details. Perhaps a PM to them?

I've been messing around with Karibbean Objectives for the last couple of years, but they would have no relavance to Mordheim.

Personally I think that the Damned Shall Burn and Silent Threat work anywhere. The Lure of Fortune would not be too hard either. After that its a bit more complicated.

Very interesting thread.I have also been thinking about creating campaign objectives for games inside mordheim for my upcoming campaign.
My thoughts was to use the encampment rules and then have secondary objectives given at the tavern at each encampment. you will then gain campaign points for the 'missions' you complete in addition to the main objectives you have chosen from start.

So I've also been looking for a way to implement the btb main objectives to a pure mordheim setting. I'll try take another look at it here the following days and follow this thread closely Smile

PostSubject: Re: "Translating" BtB Campaign Objectives to Mordheim    Sun 19 Aug 2012 - 5:20

Ok, as promised, I've revised some of the BTB objectives and translated it to Mordheim (this will be used in a campaign I'm working on)

These are just a sketch, and will be edited heavily in future revisions.

Campaign Name: Ruler of the Streets

I've decied to try out the emcampment rules, and integrate this into the campaign objectives by having specific missions completed in the different encampments to achieve both campaign points (CP-points) aswell as Prestige points (P-pointsinspired by Qboid at this thread and will not be discussed in this entry).

Achievements hasn't been written yet, but will be based on the progression as in the BTB suppliment

-----
Each objective can be choosen by specific allignments and the categorization is as following:

Chaos alligned: Carnival of Chaos, Cult of the Possessed, Beastmen

Evil: Orcs & Goblins, Undead, The Restless Dead, Skaven, Dark Elves (nerfed), Pirates.

Good: Witch Hunters, Sisters of Sigmar, Mercenaries, Dwarven treasure hunters, Shadow Warriors (nerfed)

Neutral: Lizardmen (nerfed), Mercenaries, Dwarven treasure hunters, Pirates, Orcs & Goblins
-----

And for now further ado, here's the first draft of 3 objectives without flavour text.

For the greater Good:

Can be choosen by good aligned warbands

Progress:

+1 CP for Playing a Scenario
+1 CP for Winning a Scenario - +1 if the opposing warband was chaos or evil alligned
D3 CP for having your leader take a chaos, or evil alligned Hero OOA, and not go OOA him/her self this battle.
D3 CP for Aquiring "Named Territory" and hold it for 3 Campaign Turns (one time award only)
+1 CP for taking a warband Leader OOA.

Mordheim Assassination Plot: ( a variation of the Silent Threat objective )

Can be choosen by Chaos, Evil and Neutral

Progress:

+1 CP for Playing a Scenario
+1 CP for Winning a Scenario
+D3 CP "Target Eliminated" (See Silent Threat from BTB, p. 44)
+1 CP Poisoned OOA (See Silent Threat from BTB, p. 44)
+D3 CP Death by Poison (See Silent Threat from BTB, p. 44)
+1 CP for completing a OOA move while spotting a hidden enemy in same turn.

Reckless at Best:

Can be choosen by all allignments

Progress:

+1 CP for Playing a Scenario
+1 CP for Winning a Scenario, +1 with only one model standing (henchman or hero)
+D3 CP "Against all odds": Completing 2x diving charge and OOA opposing warband heroes in the round of combat the diving charge was made.
+D3 CP "Living in the rubble": Living in Mordheim without an encampment for 5 campaign turns (one time achievement only)
+1 CP for having one model taking 4 opposing enemies OOA while not being Knocked down or Stunned one single time.

-----------------

This was it for now - still need some tweeking and readjusting, but please feel free to post any C & C, because I could sure use some pointers in this matter ( no thread hijacking intended Arcuballis Wink )

One thing I have found hard to balance is the rate of accumulation of CPs. Some things are easier to accomplish in a game than others. The Reckless objective or path is a good example. "Against all odds"--Depending on your warband and the terrain you play with, this could be a riduculously easy thing to pull off or it could be nearly impossible.

Also I don't know your groups playstyle, but my group would have everyone at 40+ CP just spotting Hidden enemies.

I guess my point is that beyond the one awarded for playing a game, a CP should be awarded for a difficult accomplishment.

PostSubject: Re: "Translating" BtB Campaign Objectives to Mordheim    Sun 19 Aug 2012 - 8:14

I see your point - The idea was to make the warband with this objective be a reckless one, hence to the feats needed to be done to accumulate CP, and the risk involved the action. Of course if you chose a elven warband, the success rate of the diving charges would be better than a dwarven, but there again - you chose which objective suits your playstyle the most, aswell the racial benefits. The CP will ONLY be earned if the enemy model is OOA'ed in the process as a side note.

To the comment about the spotted hidden enemies, the CP is earned for a OOA move involved with the spotting ( like an assassin salking his pray). I believe this is harder to pull off unless the poor sod is isolated from friendly models.
May I ask what would you purpose as a replacement when the odds are involved in this objective ?

Preferably we will be playing a 80% terrain coverage, depending on the other players eager to create terrain pieces and how many will be playing at once.

Thanks for the feedback!

As I said above, I am of the opinion that the Silent Threat can be used in any setting. Thus unless you see a need for another source of CPs in a Silent Threat style objective, I'd just drop the spot hidden and use the ones provided.

If you need to expand the sources of CPs, I would tie the CPs to your encampment idea or to controling or preventing control of territory.

This is my personal cross, but I find CPs that are linked to in game actions to be very difficult for my absent minded players to track.

Yes, I do agree that the silent threat really hits the nail on the head. I'll do as you suggested at remove the hidden rule. In regards to the reckless at best objective, how would you take on the progress objectives? I still think the in-game achievements would be interesting gameplay.

I've written 3 more objectives with your comments taken into consideration, and will be posted tomorrow. Thanks again!

In game achievements--my guys don't really notice if they miss them, which is nice because they don't complain about missed opportunities. Generally they have to be reminded of all but the basic play a game gain a CP, win a game get another. Oh well.

One thing I have noticed from writing my own objectives is the interaction between the objectives and the Achievements. Its hard to judge your objectives without knowing the coresponding Achievement ladder as well. Also I have absolutely no experience with map/territory campaigns so I don't know any of the possible advantages or disadvantages.

Hopefully someone else will comment on that.

On that note, if you have the time I would appreciate any feedback you have on my attempts at objectives for a different style and campaign setting--

@Zero2Hero-DK... I like the idea of an objective focused on the Undead. It seems to me that the Undead don't get much love in Mordheim due to a big focus of chaos as the evil players in a campaign.

Here is some high-level food for thought for objective/achievement ideas...

Thanks!

That was my exact thourght when I divided allignments as Chaos and Evil. Now there's an objective to several play styles, which I think will spice the gameplay up a bit more.

Though I'm planing to do as werekin and co. did on BTB, namely having objective achievements based on other players objectives (ie. good vs. bad - good objective holders gain cp for routing evil, chaos and vise versa | neutral for something else). I think this will force players to fight the opposite allignment warbands, and hereby gain the benefits from such (soulfire against chaos ect.)

I've begune writing the achievments with great inspiration from BTB and Von Kursts try on objectives, so hope it's ok I steal abit of ideas Smile

I like the direction that the objectives have taken. And being able to see the achievements helps to evaluate them. I hope that you enjoy including objective scenarios.

I do like the idea of incorporating a map campaign into the objectives.

And the last two objectives - C & C are more than welcome!

Ace of all Trades:

+1 CP for Winning a Scenario, +1 CP if no Heroes went out of action
+1 CP for each 25 Wyrdstone collected inside Mordheim
+1 CP "Territory Supremacy" : When the warband reaches 5, 7, 10, 12 ,14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 territories occupied. Can only be achieved once for each occurance. (NOTE: If you play more than 5 people in the campaign, then substract 1 from each territory markers above for each player above 5 players attending the campaign)
+D3 CP Aquiring and holding "target territory" for 3 campaign turns. Can only be achieved once.
+1 CP for each roll for finding rare items AND finding the item on a pure roll of 11+. (bonuses such as the street wise skill, and equipment, does not apply to the roll)

Achievements:

5 CP - Protect the Goods!:
If you ever find your encampment under attack by an enemy warband, you gain +25 gc for Additional Equipment.

10 CP - The Wealth is Mine!:
The warband leader HATES other heroes

15 CP - Unity:
When the warband wins a battle, the quantity of warriors, counts as one tier less when selling wyrdstone. (ie. being under the economy tier of 7-9 members, your warband is now categorized as 4-6 members)

20 CP - Opulent Warband:
For each item the warband owns, which has a rarity of 10 on the chart, the warband may deduct 2 gc from the total price of a new item. ie. the warband owns two sets of gromril armor and want to buy the third, then the warband deduct 4 gc from the total price of the third gromril armor.

25 CP - Promise of Wealth:
When rolling for henchmen veterans in the exploration phase increase the exp value +2 for the amout you're able to hire. In addition, all hired swords cost 5 gc less to employ, upkeep remain the same.

30 CP - Merchants Dream:
For each rare item bought, the warband always buy the item to the cheapest price. All skills, or abilities apply AFTER this rule, such as haggle and Promise of Wealth.

35 CP - Uncanny Wit:
The warband leader may reroll the first rout test if failed. This can be combined with items, or skills, so that this instance is the only case where you will be able to reroll a reroll.

40 CP - For the Wealth,... and beyond:
Occupy the "Market Place"-Territory for 3 Campaign Turns and win the campaign.

Great work. I was poised to embark on the quest to translate objectives to Mordheim also. My group is starting a BTB run but we are far more city-based so a lot of the rules don't come into effect often. I think what you have looks like it will offer a fun system to use. I'll offer to some small comments.

- Add beastmen to the 'Chaos' list
- I don't think Mercs should ever be considered 'Evil'
- O&G might be considered neutral also if its leaders acted greedily so perhaps allow that
- The 'Excellence of the Damned' final objective doesn't really seem appropriate for most of the 'Evil' groups
- Under 'Reckless at Best', I think it's hard enough to take an enemy OoA with a diving charge that you don't need to perform a diving charge twice in a battle

Otherwise, I think this is close to what we might use. I'll have to get the encampment rules out.

We used this map for a a previous campaign if you are interested. Nothin special just tiled the city.

Could excellence of the damned be focused more on Undead than the broader 'evil' warbands. Undead The last campaign would then make sense otherwise yeah you may need two different final scenarios depending on type of 'evil' warband or else a single different final scenario.
