2003:

"Who needs Mordheim?"

Dear Fanatic,
Why is Mordheim still about? I admit it's a strange question but it's
a validone. The reason I ask is because of Warhammer Skirmish - the
appendix in the back of the Warhammer rulebook."

Reply: Andy Hall:
"I think you are doing a great injustice to Mordheim here. Firstly,
you've assumed that Mordheim is just the Skirmish rules, which is
wrong, it is much more than that. Mordheim is an entire background
setting and campaign rules set as well as the Skirmish rules. The
Mordheim book and setting is highly evocative allowing players to
personalise their warbands and play games in the time of the Three
Emperors. I think Mordheim has as much right to be in the Specialist
Games Range as any of the other games."

Those were the days.

In fact,

These still are the days.

Andy simply says that Mordheim has "as much right" to be in the range
as the other games. So a collective massacre doesn't really change
that. From the Past... Wink

Hmmm...

I think that reply could have been better. He should have stressed the campaign system. After all it led to the successful Legends games (not back then of course), but that system is still the biggest reason to play the game.

As for the background... well, the book definately has tons of atmosphere and it is really inspiring to flick through it. Still, to me "Mordheim" is a game system with many different settings, where the City of the Damned is only one of many.
