Just wondering if anyone would like to post a tutorial or have a discussion on how to make Araby accessories from greenstuff. I'm contemplating a Ogre army inspired by medieval Islamic forces.

I've just completed an Araby themed warband (and/or Warhammer unit) of Orc Corsairs: The Chimeras.

The WIP photos start on this page of my Orc Pirates thread, but I'll post all the mini group shots I took as I completed each batch. Hmmmm.... I haven't got round to taking a full unit shot yet... I need to do that soon!

Feel free to ask questions about how I did anything - they were great fun to build and paint!

Sashes are fairly straight-forward:

Roll out a "sausage" OF greenstuff, long enough to go round the model's waist (be generous) and about2-3mm in diameter. Gently place the middle of it against the model's stomach and use a flat tool to press it round the model's midrif. Flatten the sausage but try to keep the edges "squared" and tidy by pressing inwards as you widen the gs - alternate flattening with tidying the edge.

Once the greenstuff is oressed all the way round until it meets at the back cut off any excess and smooth the ends together. Use a flat-edged tool to press into the top off the band of greenstuff - try to think of tucking part of it behind the rest, you are trying to create the impression that the sash has gone round the model two or three times and the bit you are pressing in is only half visible, the rest is under the top layer. Don't try to get the underneath layer even all the way round - it looks better if it is only visible across the front of the model. If there is room and it looks right repeat this step on the bottom edge to create a third "layer" of sash.

To create the hanging end of the sash take another small blob of greenstuff make another sausage, the same diameter but only about half a CM to 1cm long. On the back of the model add this vertialy and press flat, squaring the edges and "tucking" the top into the top edge of the sash. Create a tasseled end by gently pressing a sharpe tool into the last 2mm of the hanging end to create individual threads.

Fez

Using a small blob of greenstuff rolled into a squat sausage, put one end on the model's head and gently press it down. Use a flat tool with a sharpe edge to alternately flattern the top and round the sides. Take care to get the bottom edge, where it sits on the head, to look straight. The shape will distort constantly, so have patience and keep gentley working it back towards the slightly conical (narrower at the top). Tease the greenstuff to a sharpe edge at the top by pulling it up and outward, then flatening the top. This takes some practice but it is a very useful gs skill to have for other projects, so keep at it!

Turbans are tricky.

Look at lot of photos online! There are a few different types, so pick one style and stick to it for each one you make.

The easiest one (if you can make fezes look good) is to make a fez, let that cure hard, then add a "doughnut" of fabric round the base - it's very easy to twist as sausage of gs into what looks like wound-up fabric.

For a non-fez bases turban take a big ball of greenstuff (bigger than the model's head!) and press it onto the model's head. Get the shape right before you move onto the next part. Look at those images on Google again! Once you are happy with the (quite complex to describe) shape you want to press a blade-style tool into the ball to make the edges of the fabric strips. I found this quite hard to get right! acdh strip has to go over or under it's neighbours and can't look like it just stops. The ends have to be either tucked under another strip or curve under the edge of the turban where it meets the wearer's head.

To finish either sort of turban it looks good if you can find a tiny decorative crest or gem to press into the front - centrally above the forehead. The High Elf plastics supplied most of mine but there are probably little bits in several ranges that would work.

Thanks a ton! Most of mine will be tubed wrap arounds as I'll be putting ottoman style onion helmets onto them mostly, once I figure them out.
