| Salut les amis!
For the first time in history, I've started a Mordheim building. Originally this building was created last summer with Admin Tom's help, but it is only three days ago that I decided to resume the construction. Here are the pics (WIP):
I'm planning to plant a tree in the little brick circle, next to the stairs... it will be a dead tree.
The little fence made with toothpicks will be sticked in the styrofoam: ATM I prefer to wait before I push the fence into the ground.

Constructive C&Cs are always welcome!! |

| I already gave my opinion, but it can't hurt to give it again: I reall really like it Tortiou! Absolutely amazing for a first building!
(I moved the thread here, because only finished work will go into the Gallery. WIP stays here.) _________________

| Very cool!
Love the construction, it's simply unique.
One remark: Try to make the stairs a little smaller next time. But I have problems with building stairs myself |

Yeah I know, they look completely unrealistic... but I wanted the stairs to be "playable" (like you can put models on the stairs)... because if you have normal-sized stairs, your minis won't be able to stand on them! Do you have the solution for this problem? |

| I've got a simple one, make another pair of stairs of the same size, which you can flip over on the stairs.. hope you get it _________________

Ok, didn't think of this
I use to build small steps, and somewhere at the middle of the stairs, I put a small "platform" the size of a base. Still a compromise, though. |

Here's a possible solution:
This was by Caleb at Terragenis, for his Trade Guild Headquarters:

I hope that helps.

| | there is a little device in this thread [on another forum, but some good terrain in there also] called a doodad that solves the problem of placing models on stairs. it's the same idea that tagnator suggested, but in picture form. |

| I like that system, although I think that Tortiou's oversized stairs have one major advantage: the model stands "where it really stands" for purposes of cover and range determination.

PS: The victorian bridge thingy is AMAZING! :O _________________

Thats a good idea. The only down side is you'd have to make one for every different kind of stair (and possibly more if you can fit three models on the stairs at once).
But I think "mine's better" As Tom says The model stands where it stands. _________________ -Ashton Sanders -Mordheim in Montana Blog |

| Thanks a lot for all your answers, guys!
Yeah, I'll add a ladder in the building at the very end (when everything's done & painted).
Concerning the stairs: all your ideas and suggestions made me think a lot (yeah, I can think, BTW) and I think that if I have some time, I'll simply re-build those stairs in the "Caleb-Trade-Guild-HQ" way (suggested by Ashton). This is simple and effective as all models, including the huge possessed, have the same size for their bases, so they'll all fit quite nicely between two planks of wood. And as Tom said, the model stands "where it stands" (that can prevent hours and hours of argumenting whether the model is covered, or not) This is the main advantage when we compare it to the "doodads" suggested by thatirwinfella and tagnator!
Anyway, thanks again! |

| How come I missed this thread? Your building's looking really good, Tortiou. I'm looking forward to seeing it in full colour. Man, I love all the great scenery and models on this forum! _________________

| I think [well, I try to think, best one with imminent senility can do] you did a fine job. I like the multi- level feel of the piece. It has potential. I'm looking forward to seeing this sucker all painted up.
The stairs are functional, should work well for gaming, & are an attractive feature of the piece. Once you've got it painted up, any deviation from scale will be much less noticeable. You do have to make some compromises when making a terrain piece that is to be usable from a gaming stand point. I think perhaps they rise a little too steeply; you could fix this by having them rise about 1/2 the distance, & wrap them around the base. On a really high base having the stair wrapped around the building really looks cool.
Well done, amigo. |

| That’s a great piece Tortiou, specially for your first one. As for the steps problem, you could always just use a slope. Something that rises at about 1 in 2 should be fine, always in scale too. _________________ In a crooked little town, they were lost and never found, fallen leaves, fallen leaves on the ground. |

| Hey Tortiou, how's this little gem coming along? It's too nice a piece not to get a little nagging on [like humility, nagging is a talent/trait I'm proud of]. |

| Great looking building! I'm really inspired by your work and that of others on this forum. You guys make some great looking stuff.
Regarding the stairs - I think they look fine the way you have them.
Keep up the good work! |

Oh sorry I missed this question... well actually there's no progress at all since this building is still in Vienna and I'm studying in Strasbourg and teletransportation hasn't been invented yet... that's a shame! But as soon as I return to Vienna (end of june) I'll try to add a few more details and paint it. It may even be available for Tom's Boring Big Meetup in July, who knows? |
