I have some questions. I have never tried the Wolf Priest (TC Cool or the Priest of Morr (TC12) and was curious of anyone’s opinions of these two.

First, I know the Wolf Priest replaces a Middenheim’s Champion. And the Priest of Morr replaces any Merc Hero. Is there any rule(s) I may have missed that says these two Priest could not be on the same Middenhiem Warband?

Second, for the Wolf Priest appears that he uses common weapons that can be purchased on the Warband list, so I assume he wouldn’t have any as a hired sword would. Which bring me to the Priest of Morr; he has a special weapon, a scythe. This weapon is not listed anywhere for a price for this item. Meaning, his hire cost would include this weapon (I would assume). But what if this Hero gets OOA and rolls Robbed as a result, would the replacement purchase price be the same as other Two-Handed weapons?

Any thoughts and opinions for these two Priests would be appreciated.

1- There's no strict ruling about that, but I remember a piece about the same hired sword in the Mousillon Campaign that stated: "Bear in mind that though he may work in warbands with priests of a different religion, this is unusual.". Also, in TC 12 the Priest of Morr entry said: "It is unlikely that Witch Hunters and Sisters of Sigmar will have a priest of Morr accompanying them, so neiother of these two warband may take one.". My humble opinion is no, due to background issues between different priests of different deities.

2- A scythe is, for rules purpose only, a halberd (two handed, +1 strength). If you use the one from TC 12, you should pay for it (10 GC), if you want to equip your priest with it.

Thank you.

As I have reread the two Priests over several more times, I have come to the belief that the Priest of Morr might work with the Wolf Priest, I don't believe the Wolf Priest would work with the Priest of Morr. Seeing the Priest of Morr as another Heretic. Not that I play by “fluff” story. But also recognizing the Wolf Priest of TC8 was before the publishing of TC12, so the Wolf Priest doesn’t state that he wouldn’t work with any other Priests as well as Sigmar followers. Also, since the Wolf Priest only works with Middenhiems, this would be the only warband that would even be an issue with.

The Wolf Priest states that he replaces a Middenhiem Champion, while the Priest of Morr replaces a hero. This would be a good trade for any Youngblood. But since the Priest of Morr comes with 8xp, I believe there was a mistake in editing and it actually meant as a “Champion”. This will have to be a House Rule as a clarification with my group.

I also believe the Priest of Morr’s Scythe would come with the hiring fee, since it’s a specialty not available for purchase anywhere in any of the books and TCs. I do agree with the cost of a two-handed weapon as a replacement value, if he was to roll “robbed” as an injury roll.

I will admit that both these Priests do have a lot of questions left unanswered by the writers and FAQ pages. My group and I do like rules and being able to refer to them when/if they arise.

True, but the wording is "[The priest of Morr ] ... may only be armed with a dagger and a scythe as a weapon." When you hire him, he doesn't have any weapon, like other heroes (bar the everpresent dagger).

Obviously, is up to your gaming group to say the final word about.

Huh, I always assumed the priest of Morr came with weapons, like a hired sword, but given the price & his status as a hero it does look more like he has to buy his scythe separately. & I'd agree it's easiest to say the scythe is a funny-looking halberd & price it as such, because all the same rules apply.

I like priests. They behave like heroes in all the best stories. They do not behave like sell-swords for hire. As such I took the time to work on an article dedicated to all of the faiths in the Empire to help represent these characters in your Mordheim campaigns. The resulting article is called 'Miracle Workers' and it can be downloaded from my public folder.

The general idea is that you dump one of the heroes from your normal warband selection and replace them with a priest.

I hope you find the material is fun to use in your campaigns.
