| Why do shaman always wear wolf-hoods?? Is it a common idea among fantasy players? Where does it come from? I know that the Warcraft III shaman wears a wolf-hood (the shaman who always shouts "Storm, Wind and Fire, hear my call!" after you train him )... maybe this wolf-fashion comes from that video game? Anyway, I would recommend something more original (why not a turtle shell on its back??) lol | |

| Yeah, it definately is an older idea. Look at this: I really this pic. Maybe I'll try to make something like this dude. He sure looks wise and mighty. He only needs a little Chaotic twist. | |

| He looks like an american native to me, but still the look fits. Add some skulls and voila, there you have a chaos shaman. | |

| Of course it is a native American. I just think the pic represents the perfect shaman prototype. | |

| Time has passed and a shaman rose from the barbarous people from the North... Give my new Marauder Shaman of Tchar a heartly welcome, guys! On his arm you can see an Eagle familiar which can used with the familiar rules from the Shadow warrior rules from the Mordheim Annual 2002 (yes, the familiar rules are for all warbands). Unnecessary info: - The upper part of his staff (including the skull) is made of parts for a beastman chariot - The feathers on his staff are taken from an Empire halberd regiment box sprue - The rope on the staff is made of thin filament/wire - The skull on his head is a beastman skull taken from the Khemri Skeleton warriors regiment sprue - The fur on his head and the pinafore are made of Green Stuff - The little bag at his belt is taken from the Nightgoblin regiment box - The scroll-and-bag piece and the bone at his belt are taken from the Flagellant regiment box - The two-headed eagle on his arm is a bit from a Warhammer 40k model (can't remember which one now) I mail-ordered via GW archive service a long time ago. I always knew I'd want to use it someday. | |

| Impressive!!! Is the model balanced? I mean: is he likely to fall because of the weight of the metal eagle on his arm? Seeing the picture above, I really wonder how he manages to keep standing Anyway, great job, don't forget to show us the final result (painted) !! | |

| For some reason - probably stupidity - I put the model on a small base at first (20 x 20). The model did indeed have a slight problem with standing still. However, when I put the model in my cabinet where the other marauders are, I noticed that all of marauders are standing on 25 x 25 bases. D'OH! Idiot! So now it is on a bigger base. To ensure stability I put him on the very left back of the base and now it is very well balanced.
This leaves only one more model to make: a Marauder Champion with a whip. Then I can start with the paint job.

| Great! That means we'll soon get to admire a new entry in the gallery section! About the balancing: I know what you mean I have a model that has the same problem. Namely my "mutant with scorpion tail". The tail being made of metal the poor guy keeps falling backwards. It's impossible to make him go up a ramp | |

| Absolutly great!
@ Problem of balance: Maybe you already know, but you can glue a small coin(one-cent-piece) under the base, this should help.

| hmmm 1cent coin you say? Isn't that too light? For the legs I used Warhammer (6th edition) Goblin warrior legs. I have got some left at home if you need. | |

| One cent is often enough, if you choose a good position on the base for the mini. Ah thanks, I personally have no use for them, but a very good idea. I'll keep it in mind | |

I have an orc Captain with the long metal arm+sword. I used an American Nickle, and it works very well. It fits perfectly, and it keeps him balanced, even though we have his arm sticking straight forward.

| Give my new Champion a hearty welcome (or else he will take your head): (No, I did not convert him myself - unfortunately! He's more like a present I gave to myself. You know, gotta treat yaself to something special now and then. And I do have something special planned for this warband. I'm sure you all gonna love it... ) | |

| I am very impressed. One question I always has was why do Marauders and Norse wear so little clothing if they live in the North? I guess they shed the heavy fur when they raid the warmer climates. | |

I've been wondering about this myself actually. I will ask someone who knows everything about marauders culture (he wrote the great Tribes of Chaos article in LOD#2).

| The Champion reminded me of one of the characters from Myth Adventures: a big, burly bellicose chap named Hugh Badaxe. In addition to making a cool mini, you started my day with a laugh. Thanks! | |

AND, if they are a hunting/gathering society, why don't they have any ranged/missle weapons? Hunting with sword, axe, flail, or even spear is inefficient to the point of stupidity; defininitely wouldn't provide enough for the "hordes." And, whatis with the flail, which is predominately an agricultural tool? The Marauders [what ever happened to the Thugs?] and their more heavily armored brethren look to moi like good, solid Norse warriors with poor depth perception [explains the no missle weapon thingy] I tend to think of nomadic hordes more in terms of Mongol style horsemen, but then that might be just me.

| Well, marauders don't use ranged weapons in Warhammer, which is mostly a balance reason. Chaos Warriors and Marauders were always among the best close combat fighters and giving them access to bows was probably deemed unbalanced or simply unstylish. If you have a look at their background, however, tribes such as the Kurgans make bows out of bones and use them for hunting. If you are interested you may like to have a look at the excellent "Tribes of Chaos" article in the Letters of the Damned issue 2, which was written by a very competent sage and Norse fanatic. That extract of the Border Town Burning supplement's background section describes the major tribes of Chaos marauders and is based purely on official Games Workshop publications (fiction books, WHRPG background, etc.). | |
