| So... i thought about something. Who can wear what armour? For example, undeads cant use bucklers (in a starting warband) but can you use them later on? My thought is: yes. The two main reasons are: 1) there is no "armour master" skill 2) no one (except dwarves) can use gromril armour from the start. hence it is implied that you can wear it later on.
Does this mean that for example marksmen can use heavy armour later on? and orcs? what about flagellants? tricky...

| You can wear the type of armor that is on your list.. so no bucklar for undead.
Ithilmar and gromril armor count as heavy armor, so no gromril for the orc.

| As far as I can remember (and I don't use armour of any kind with my Pirate Orcs - so I may be VERY wrong!) there are three types of armour: Light, Heavy and Shield. Everything else fits into one of these types, so if you can't buy Heavy Armour at the start you can't wear any kind of Heavy Armour later. Someone has probably made a list of what counts as what but I've not paid it much attention!!

| @MrKurgan: If we are putting it in types of armor i think i will be 5 types: Light armor, Heavy armor (inc. Ithilmar and gromril), Helmat, shield and bucklar (bucklar and shields are not the same, rule or type) There is also the leather armor thing (cant remember the name), but that is equipment and only for heroes.

| Toughened Leathers, which count as Miscellaneous items. That means that ANY hero who's allowed to use armor may wear it, and no henchmen may wear it (unless it's on their list, like the Pirates.) | |

| Yup, you can only wear it if it is on your band's equipment list, or if it is a "miscellaneous item" and you want it for a hero - who can wear the appropriate type of armor.
Some groups, including ours, count ithilmar armor as "light" armor (i.e. mithril).

| Does any one have any page number or so in the rulebook to refer to? I understand the reasoning, but is there any supporting evidence in the actual rulebook to this "armour type" argument? | |

| p. 47 of the revised on-line version of the rulebook (under "Starting a Warband"):
"You may buy additional equipment between battles, but your warriors can only use the weapons and armour listed in their warband entry. As they accumulate experience and gain skills, Heroes may learn to use weapons other than those initially available to them."

- Gromril and Ithilmar are Materials. They are still suits of heavy armor ...

| If Ithilmar armor ist heavy armor, does that mean, that shadow warriors can wear heavy armor and gromrilarmor too, but just can't buy them initiall? | |

Since the shadow warriors are elves and the Ithilmar are eleven armour, I would guess they could wear them.....

Sounds reasonable. Quite how an Elf could bring himself to wear Dwarf or Human-made armour is another question

No, and here is why: You can only wear what is on your list. Heavy armour is not on the list. There *is* a ruling that says that ithilmar counts as heavy armour, but there is nothing anywhere that I know of that says that heavy armour counts as Ithilmar armour. That being said, the ruling is in an FAQ, and by GW's on admission FAQs have the weight of a houserule. Granted, they are the studio's houserule, but a houserule none-the-less. In my circle we decided that Ithilmar does not, in fact, count as heavy armour - it instead counts as light armour to better reflect its background. It also makes more sense with the drowning rules and so forth where the heavier your armour is the more likely you are to drown, especially since ithilmar is supposed to be a very light armour. Toughened leathers are technically equipment, but houseruling them to count as a form of light armour makes a lot of sense too.

| we play the same way like your circle, but i wanted to know how it is RAW.
But RAW you have the problem above, that nobody could use gromril and Ithilmar armor without this FAQ-Rule...

| Yup, exactly – that is why we made the houserule . No point having a piece of equipment in the rules if noone can use it. We made the houserule before any of the expansions or other warbands came out and found no reason to do so once they did. | |

| I would compromise. I would allow the heroes in the elf warband wear the elevn armour but not the henchmen. | |

| The henchmen can't wear it anyway. Ithilmar weapons, armour, elf bows and a few other things are marked as heroes only. | |

Where does it say that? Or are you refering to a warband specific issue?
