| Impressive buildings. How long is "the last while" exactly? Why the glossy red/yellow/green? Not the final paintjob I suppose? _________________ | |

| god no far too bright for mordheim. I'm trying a spray can / drybrushing dark plain color then wash the building and do the details. The Yellow building with bottom half stone shows the yellow with a first coat of dirt so as to speak. I intend to dirty then up alot, the gloss is to resemble the old building before it was destroyed and used to be pretty. and to say how long... erm the last month odd casually. I was working on the castle until i discovered a certain site ... i think you can guess which. and then I saw Ashtons (God i hope i spelt his name right) blog and his scenery made me want my own less pretty board so kind of your fault i'm here | |

| the cast stuff looks like it has an absolute ton of potential and is looking quite nice already. but please please please don't spray gloss on to that. By all means use a matte spray undercoat and a varnish, but gloss shouldn't really be used for painting minis. the sprays you should be looking for are things like auto primers, flat coats and undercoats. get a few sample pots of low sheen acrylic and you can apply them quite easily the old fashioned way with a paint brush, or if you invested in a hand sprayer could pump out more colours than the spray cans, and not get a nasty gloss look. sorry that i've been critical of your painting, but you have some nice bulidings and in my opinion [which is only that, and as such can be ignored] painting them with gloss will ruin them. anyhow, i hope you can prove me wrong with a full table of awesome looking scenery. You seem to be halfwaythere, so good luck!! | |

No problems, comments are welcomed, and yeah I went out over the weekend and bought some matt acrylics to coat over the gloss, ( In reality I bought the wrong sprays and was meant to grab some matt ones, but decided to give it a try). I'm now pondering whether to do the majority black/ grey and keep some colored ones like the inn's top floor and maybe 1-2 others. makes for amuch darker board but too many color smight be an eyesore.

| there is nothing wrong with a colourful board, but if the colours are darker tones... burgandy rather than bright red, etc, adn you will have a colourful board but it will be more subdued. If the walls of some of your buildings were textured and varnished with a matte coat they may seem darker if painted with the same colour as less light should be dirrectly reflected.
if you painted them black you lose a lot of detail, and grey is best left to stonework and the tabletop. Timber, terracotta, slate and stone would be typically used as building materials so colours that suggest these would be an ideal purchase. Others such as sandstone can be used as a whitewash type colour, greens to suggest a mossy roof [great lightly drybrushed over a textureed stone wall, it would suggest mould on the wall].
keep going, but think small first and get a few awesome buildings finished then continue solidly till you have a table full... maybe one per week for a month, then one a month after that. You don't want to get burnt out... even worse.. have nothing left to do!!!

| LOVE the halo hovering over one of the buildings; it must be a Temple of Blessed Sigmar. WOW! You've got the WHOLE town all laid out. I hope you don't become intimidated by ii ALL. It REALLY looks good. It's great fun following your progress AND the only amount of photos is not enough. The Green Floral Foam you're using is great stuff, but a bit fragile. If you coat it with a sealer/spackle, it becomes MUCH more durable AND far easier to paint. | |

| Really nice board, mate! The militia barracks is my favourite so far, it looks really nice, and the stairs are perfect! I'm really curious about how your final painting is going to turn out. You have undercoated your buildings with a lot of glossy paint and as ThatIrwinFella pointed out in an earlier post, there's a risk it's going to look bad... I myself made the error of buying a black gloss acrylic paint by "Tamiya" and I don't want to throw it away, so I'm eagerly waiting for your buildings to be painted to see if they look good (or not) so that I can decide to use my gloss paint (or not). Actually, you are something like my "guinea pig". | |

It's a Wise Man who can learn from other people's mistakes [knocks scalding hot cup of coffe in lap ]. BACK ON SUBJECT: I TOTALLY forgot to mention my admiration of the stairs [ WHAT A JERK !]. They are gorgeous, a GREAT PIECE OF WORK! BRAVO! Thanks for reminding me, Tortiou. Addendum [because I forgot something else AGAIN, see JERK comments above]: Sometimes it's difficult to paint over a gloss finish. If you hit the gloss up with a workable fixative [Krylon makes a very good one], the paint will adhere MUCH better. Workable fixatives are used for mediums, like pastels & watercolors, that require layering; they secure the lower layer while providing a good base for subsequent layers.

| I've actually painted over most of the gloss with some matt black acrylic paint, only the inn's 2nd floor will be colorful. Still unsure what color to do the interior walls, thinking of black undercoat then drybrush some shades of grey ou the outside, but inside i'm still stumped.. and i have no idea what that halo is. i've went back into the room 3 times incase its like when you close the fridge door the light goes off... no idea what it is _________________ | |

| The middle enclosure is goign to be anything from a castle to mannor house to a nobles home.
Going to knock up stables, lots fo posh houses etc, so it can be what I need.
so far that is 4'x4' i think.
Got to add 2 more board sections to make it close to the 4x6 that the mordheim booklet says for playable area... thank god because I still have the entire origional cardstock buildings to cut out from foamcard and assemble so thats probabily another board and a half covered, meaning i can make my final building which is goign to be an armory/stockroom/small stalls outside along the wall for selling.
A question though, ...rubble, how much is good and when is there too much? _________________

See, Tortiou. Trust your old friend the Admin when he says glossy paint looks rubbish as a basecoat. Don't worry, we've all bought stuff we later realised was useless _________________
