I agree...that is one UBERCOOL mini! Your paint job is just making it that much cooler. NICE WORK! thumbsup

The easiest way to do eyes is to first paint the eye in black or a very dark brown, if you prefer, making this first coat slightly large than the eye. Then run a coat of white inside the black. When dry, do a line from top to bottom in black.
Sometimes it's easier to get the eyes the same shape, if you paint one eye with the mini in an upright position & the other with the mini upside down. What a Face

I just need to roll the right spelll, for this mini. So i can start right away.

I will ad some more henchman in future.

And i am searching for more heroe models right now.

Maybe you have some advise for me.

One i really want is the paymaster model Mydas, but he is to expensive on ebay within the last weeks.

Al Muktar and his riders i already have, but they will need an painting update right now.

I am looking forward to a lot of comments and some really fine mini recommendations from you.

A special thank you post for DeafNala only.:

I tried your tipps regarding the eye painting.

Just enjoy what i was able to do with my alchemist:

SerialMoMs Arabian Tomb Robbers: all finished - Page 2 Kopie_von_SDC15726

SerialMoMs Arabian Tomb Robbers: all finished - Page 2 Kopie_von_SDC15727

Your suggested technique is awesome. I got lucky on him though, because not all eyes I was able to finish are as good as this pair.

Dear DeaNala, thank you a thousand times for your real motivating comments and great painting tipps.

I thought he was one of the best models until now. I really would appreciate all comments and critics.

Please give me input Sad

Ok i cried and begged enough. Very Happy

na mommy, what do you do beside painting and posting?! Wink
about your mage, first saw him now, so here's my comment: Nice work, but i do think that youĺl have to work more with light effects when it comes to his green warpstone glasbombs. And the white cloth of all your warriors need some small extra white highlights, i consider them to tone in tone. What about you other guys, or is it only me? Look forward to battle them, great job, floedebolle

By the Eye of the Prophet those are COOL MINIS! The off white effect you've achieved looks GREAT & ties all the Lads together nicely. The Archer & the Swordsmen are turning out TERRIFIC . Alchemist & the Flying Mage are SPECTACULAR minis...VERY NICE WORK! thumbsup
I'm glad the eye technique is working out four you. When someone views a mini, especially someone not familiar with the Beasty, the first thing they notice is the face. Having nicely done eyes always impresses. The eyes on the Alchemist are particularly striking. thumbsup

Good job on the minis, the flying mage especially. Very clean and the wash on the white clothes looks especially good. And I do like the blue eyes. Only thing is, I think the scimitars on the warriors are a little flat, just grey. They could use some touch ups imo.

Good work! This is a really goodlooking warband, with really characterful models. And the blue eyes look very good, eyecatching, if you catch my drift!

Thanks for your comments.

I received two minis for this warband and i finished the bases, so this is the last update (but one)

I start with two beauties:

Floedbolle infected me with his delsuion for OOP citadel minis on this one:

SerialMoMs Arabian Tomb Robbers: all finished - Page 2 SDC15797

SerialMoMs Arabian Tomb Robbers: all finished - Page 2 SDC15801

SerialMoMs Arabian Tomb Robbers: all finished - Page 2 SDC15802.

I saw this mini and thought that my warband really needs an assassin.

This one i highlighted after the shading. Do you recognize it?

Do you like it?

The next one was a gift from Floedebolle: A really cute warhound:

SerialMoMs Arabian Tomb Robbers: all finished - Page 2 SDC15810

And now the final update for all members with finished bases. I also reworked the eyes of some of them.

El sheik:

the champions:

I hope you also like the look of shattered enemies on the bases:

Ok, today i post the last mini of this project:

An arabian thief.

This time i tried an lighter color for the cloth.

SerialMoMs Arabian Tomb Robbers: all finished - Page 2 SDC15899

SerialMoMs Arabian Tomb Robbers: all finished - Page 2 SDC15900

SerialMoMs Arabian Tomb Robbers: all finished - Page 2 SDC15902

This one was not the best painting job within this project, i see in the pictures to many painting mistakes. On the good side you nearly won`t recognize them in original size.

Thanks to all for your comments and tipps. This motivates to gon on with your projects.

I would be happy if one of the moderators would be so kind to switch this topic to the gallery section in 2 days or so.

@ DeafNala: I am "working" on the scenery for an arabian setting.

Mostly it will be purchased. I will show some pictures in a few weeks i hope.

Kudos where kudos is due. I really enjoyed leafing through this thread for numerous reasons. Whilst being a Citadel obsessive, your selection of sculpts to fit with an Arabyan warband theme is a credible effort that impresses even puritans. My hat is off sir. SerialMoMs Arabian Tomb Robbers: all finished - Page 2 509466

It was a pleasure to see the Nipponese cameo MoM. I have one of those badboy ninja-assassins languishing in my (not as bad as Cianty's) backlog.

My main criticism has to be the basing technique. There is lovely decoration sparsely used. However, the unworked sand detracts from the painted miniatures, and for me at least, the unclean trim on your bases looks like half-baked undercoating with a cheap pot of primer. :-s

The Indic/Arabyan vibe is a favourite of mine. A tough one to illustrate though using the GW product range old and new. Easy enough I suppose if you're a master of plastic components like a number of the guys on the forum!! They make it look easy! You know who you are... Wink

Damning comments aside, I particularly enjoyed the smooth finish on the sullied cloth adorning these warriors.

Regards,

Werekin

@werekin,

thanks for kudos and critics.

I sprayed my bases with skeleton bone from army painter and afterwards i painted the side of the base with pale sand. In the photos you see that i did not paint them cleanly, but fortunately in real size it is nearly not visible.

I personally like the unworked sand because i think it looks kind of real.

But i really would like to read your ideas about base decoration, because i don't have any more ideas yet.

Great overall theme and just wonderful in the execution! thumbsup

I like every single one, they all have so much character, but I especially love the alchemist - the contrast between his dark skin and those clear, chillingly-blue eyes, it is just ... hypnotising. I love you

I don't see how using unpainted materials like sand, stone, gravel or slate is ever good. For reasons of scale, light, and colour it doesn't match or fit with the style of painted miniatures.

The use of natural materials (in their natural state or not) for miniature modeling is as old as the hobby. The success of the effort is largely one of personal opinion, but many modelers use natural materials precisely because the scale, color and style fits the scene or miniature they wish to compliment.

I have never seen the point of painting the sand I use unless I have not been able to obtain a color that is suitable. The only argument I have heard for painting the sand that makes sense to me is to make it adhere better. A quick coat of watered down PVA glue does the same trick.

On the table top I prefer naturally based minis to the old GW sand painted green style.

I understand this discussion as a discussion of liking different styles.

There are the artist who just like to paint and there are the artist who wants to combine real stuff with painting.

The last style is called the collage style.

Why not use it within our hobby?

So i accept werekins standpoint, although i do not agree.

Thanks to Von Kurst for sharing the same taste/ painting style.
