| Started work on another project. The inspiration here was Roslin Chapel (the one they used in the Davinci Code) I wanted to create a partially ruined tomb with the Sarcophagus lids flush with the floor. I also wanted to use HirstArts Blocks. I have had the molds laying around for a while, but have never really built anything large with them. I used the template from HirstArts Church plans as a loose template. The statues will be weathered bronze. The floor will be simple 1/4" tiles with a rose pattern that I achived by using a craft bead pressed into exposed foam. The front looked a little plain, so I added a decoration take from a cast of a cross tomb stone, and added a door. Close up of the door Insipired by our local HirstArts quru I decided to add hinges to the door. For the sarcophagus tops, I used an old Hero Quest model, and made a mold out of it using silcone putty. It came out pretty good. Here you can see two casts placed into rough position The inside walls seemed a little plain, so I spackeled over the bricks to create a plastered look. I then decided that it would look cool with some hanging tapestries on the door side, prob be a coat of arms or something similar. Here you can see the tapestry hooks I made using small squares of plastic card, and bent wire. With the tapestries hanging. These were made with toothpicks, craft beads, and the foil from a wine bottle. I may tatter them a bit more what do you think? Next, I decided to add some windows. I originally was just going to create the tracery from scratch, but this was much eaiser. The windows are acrylic I purchased from A&K Studios. This is also where I purchased a very nice tombstone mold. Fast and friend service. And a very quality product. A&K Studios They have some other pretty cool stuff for use with Hirst Arts, worth a look. Windows loose fit into the tomb. side windows I am also considering adding a companion piece of a grave yard that will be off to the side of the tomb. Here are some cast tombstones from the mold I got from A&K Studios Well that is it for now... more updates to come. | |

| Very nice! In this construction the hirst arts pieces look fitting for a change (I usually dislike the "lego look"). | |

| This tomb is turning out to be quite a masterpiece! All the small details really bring the piece to life... The statues, shape of the door, tapestries, I could go on and on... I like it (in particular the hinges on the door )! | |

| Thanks for the comments guys, it makes the effort of posting worthwhile. I started work on the door statutes, in retrospec I could have just painted them stone, but these guys just had a more bronze look to me. A WIP shot of the painted tile floor, I am fairly pleased with the design. I will be playing on them a bit on the tapestries, which I think will be two coats of arms, as it only seems appropriate for the dead guys laying here. Got a base coat and the first wash on the building. Here are a few shots with things loose fit into place to give an idea of what the finished is roughly going to look like. I am thinking of putting the sarcophagus's on small raised bases, nothing crazy just raising them off the floor a bit. I think it would look a little be better? Something like this. Any thoughts? | |

| I like the idea of having the lids raised off the floor ( LOVELY floor BTW)...while some sarcophagi lid are flush with the floor in reality, these look not-quite-flush enough. The Project is coming along BEAUTIFULLY! | |

| That REALLY is a FINE piece. The floor is SPECTACULAR & the standards add just the right touch of color. The pinking sheared trim was a clever & effective touch. VERY WELL DONE! | |

The walls are made from HirstArts Blocks. The sky really is the limit with the molds he provides. You can find him Here at HirstArts | |
