Got myself a new camera!

Hey guys,

Yesterday I bought myself a new camera. After doing some research to see which camera would suit my needs, I found out that the Canon EOS 550D (also known as the Canon Rebel T2i for our American friends) was the best choice! So far I'm very happy with it!

I bought a special set which includes the body, a Canon 18-55mm lens and an additional 70-300mm lens from Tamron. Of course I couldn't help myself but to compare the two lenses, and see which one is better for photographing miniatures. The additional Tamron lens is a so-called Macro lens, but it more for getting things from far away very close - it's not very comfortable when photographing miniatures, because I have to sit like 2 meters away from the mini!

Anyway, here's two pictures I took with the different lenses. It's up to you to decide which one you like better! Keep in mind I'm a total noob with this camera - I'm still finding out how this thing works!

That is one nice camera! I like the way you painted the metal on that skaven, and your highlighting is great!

I can't tell which picture is better, but the legs and tail are really blurry in both. I hope you master the focus soon so we can see more of your great painting!

Very nice. I prefer the one with the Canon lens, the second one is a little too bright. And very cool model, too, I really like the way you painted the skin.

I agree that the picture with the Tamron lens is a bit too bright, and I also noticed that the focus is a bit off compared to the picture with the Canon lens. I think I'm going to stick with the Canon lens for miniature photography, maybe I should try to use more lighting?

You're right Dubstyles, I also see that the legs and tail are blurred out in both pictures. I'll try out some new settings when I'm photographing mini's again, hopefully I'll know how to work with it pretty soon!

I am so jealous! I had access to an SLR when I was living at home with my dad, but after moving out I need to get myself a camera. I don't even take pics of anything other than minis so a $1000 camera is a bit excessive...

Anyway, enough about me! Gratz on your new purchase. I like the Canon lens better as well. Both look amazing though!
