| DOUBLE HANDED-WEAPONS
In my last two games I had the joy of playing against first Orcs and then Elves ...who apparently all believed in the virtue of Double-handed weapons - which was great ...for ME ...since I got to strike first even when they charged me !! Anyway, this prompted me to think about why people reason as they do about "whatever" equipment and weapons ....
Personally I believe that Double-handed weapons are great ONLY in the following situations (in no particular order) a) your opponents has so high toughness that you would otherwise only wound on a 6 - and so would not have a chance to inflict a critical hit. AND/OR have very good armour save ! b) the model armed with a double-handed weapon has 3+ attacks .... c) Have 2+ attacks and strongman skill (so they dont strike last when charging). d) have 2+ attacks and only use the double-handed weapon as a backup vs. characters that strikes last anyway ei. they just "got up" from being knocked down ...or to finish off knocked down/stunned characters ... e) combinations of above ...ei. model w. 2 Attacks no strongmanskill fighting a guy w. armor save of 4+
What do you guys think?

| Well, actually you already said all the reasons. I only use a greatsword with one of the champions, you had the skill strongman from the beginnig on. If you combine a double-handed weapon with one of the poisons(the one with +1 s) or mighty blow(or both ) you can get strength 6-8 with a human, which is enough to take a troll down (or one of this damn kroxigors, hahaha!) I would never give a double-handed weapon to a henchman, because it's 1. to expensive and 2. no great use(less points of experiance etc.) Same with spears: I will only use one if one of my heros gets a leg wound(so slows down) and already has high strength+ many attacks and I cannot give him the lightning reflexes skill. | |

Anyone ? - How much do u love / hate these ? Who would you give them too ...who wouldnt you give them too ...would you consider taking "weapon expert" just to get to lay your sweaty hands on these ?? ...Do you like Pizza? Whats your favorite topping? How many slices do you like to have it cut into?

| Blunderbusses are nice, because you don't have to hit, but I didn't buy any yet. I don't know, I simply never thought of it. | |

| Blunderburss.. oh my god I HATE that weapon. Since i'm a Skaven player, I move my guy in bunch of 5-6 warriors, to bring them in contact as fast and safely as possible. No need to say that a shot of blunderburss hurt real bad. This weapon is a bit overpowered in my opinion.. | |

| @John Young - I agree that the Blunderbuss is GREAT ...and probably a bit overpowered ...IMO it would be better if the blunderbuss was downgraded a bit (such as +1armoursave and/or only str2 beyound half range) ...and then perhaps allow it to reload taking two turns ...allowed it to fire every 3 turns ...every 2 turns with Hunter skill. | |

| Whats the first thing you buy in a campaign??
For me it was Wyrdstone Pendulum ...and then a deck of Tarot Cards ...spending money to make even more money is the way to go I believe!
What say you?? | |

| well they arent THAT powerful anymore (changed in the errate/rules review 2004 to save of 4+ vs. first hit only). - and a lucky charm cost the same as a helmet...playing dwaves w. their T4 and their tendency to be stunned (injury roll of 5 is stun for a dwarf) I decided that negating a "hit" really wasnt such a big thing ...so I have chosen helmets first ...and only lucky charms second!
Now for my slayers ...I have purchased the lucky charms ...but also dont forget that they are Rare ...and searching for them will mean your not searching for "other" stuff ...
what about other stuff ...when and for who would you consider buying ei. Rope and hook? holy water ? Net ?

| I always take the rope for my two-swords-champion, so that he can climb up a house fast and then do a diving charge, which is really mean if it works, as he has four attacks(3+1 for two swords) and strength 4 by now, and may re-roll failed hits if he charges(expert swordsman). If he does a diving charge he usually hits on a 2+ or 3+(ws5 by the way), may re-roll, and has strength 5. If the opponents survive, he still has the chance to block the hit with his sword. | |

| I myself almost never use houses ...well perhaps I will if I face a strong closecombat team ...but so far I have decided that its better to have all my guys together withing mutual support range than to get guys cut off in various buildings ....and against shooters its even much much worse ...since my guys have only 2/6 chance of NOT falling down when they get hit and knocked over....but since my engineer just got his initiative increased to 3 I guess its a good time to give him a rope and hook ...hell I should probably give the other guys some as well ...so they have a chance at engaging shooters on higher levels ... | |

| OK, OK, OK... wow, looks like I have missed some intersting debates there. Time for Tom's grain of salt @ 2-handed weapons: I don't use them anymore but I still feel strangely attracted to them. I have used them in the past and have apparently always been very lucky. I have always survived the first round of HtH and then taken out my opponent... @ Blunderbuss: Erm... "reload" a blunderbuss? As far as I know you can only fire ONCE PER GAME since the reloading process takes like half an hour. Quote form the rulebook p.32: "Fire Once: It takes a very long time to load a blunderbuss so it may only be fired it once per battle."
I have never used a blunderbuss... hmmm...

| @Erkwin - Indeed I did ! I was inspired by someone from another forum suggesting that all blackpowder weapons get +1S when firing at less than half range ... - which I think is a great idea since IMHO blackpowder weapons are a bit too underpowered considering the price and time-to-reload. The only exception being the blunderbuss which is if anything slightly overpowered.... | |
