Rust imitation on Beastmen/Chaos Armour

Hey guys, as i told you in my last post ( the one with the colour-scheme guy ) i wasnt satisfied with the result of my Rusty armour thing, so i decided to drop the restcolour of the armor, and just make it a normal metal/Rust combo, wich i think worked really nice, as you can see down below.
The technique is quite simple, i used chainmail pure, then washed it 3-4 times with purple , green and baal red, then started to put on the pigments ( due to the fact that i am an artisan, i have plenty of them in stock, so what i used are several Sienna / burned and unburned, and a Bristol- yellow/redish on, until i found the mix acceptable) and then washed the deepenings once more with ogrynflesh, then applied the last and only highlights in pure chainmail again, for the parts where the rust got scratched away, whilw wearing the armour/weapon.

So, enough talk, here we go, and please comment, cause i want to start on the other modells:

Looks good, I usually dry brush with a Garnet/Blood Red and then lightly dry brush with a lighter color such as orange.

For my rust effect i paint the armor with terracotta then drybrush with boltgun metal. After a black wash i edge highlight with boltgun metal on the edges. It is less realistic looking than your bright orange, though.

You say you washed it with purple green and red? I can't even tell, does it show up in person better than on photo? If so would you recommend using these color washes on all armor?

VERY NICE EFFECT! The rust might show up slightly better if the underlying metal was a bit darker...otherwise it looks GREAT!

But DO Chaos Armours rust?

tHEIR LIGHT ARMOUR WOULD BE PRONE TO RUST.

tHEIR HEAVY WOULD BE INFUSED WITH DARK POWER, SO NOT SO MUCH.

Allright guys, thanks for your comments, about the washes, i do think its making a differnce there.And about the chaosarmourthingy, its normal armour worn by allmost everabody of the band, and i hope that one day i´ll be able to buy a real chaosarmour for my boss, until then: Rust in piece!!

when i paint rusty armour i start with beastial brown undercoat and stipple boltgun metal on that. a few washes of devlan is next followed by stippling and painting with a watered down foundation orange. the last step is to add chainmail to scratched areas such as edges.

i think you could need to darken the base a bit. devlan, perhaps?

hey widgren, sounds like a good idea, the next ones i will darken with devlan wash, thanks for the fif! as soon as i get to them i post em, but until now i stik to my new ogre friend, he still needs colores, and you know what, i will try those new darker base on his weapon, floedebolle
