Really old spray base

So I just bought a new set of paints after many years of not painting and I was gona undercoat some models but I realize my undercoat must be at least 6 years old, anyone have experience using spray that old? would it be ok?

Don't you have a spare mini lying about somewhere? Just test on that one, and just check?

Or ... are you worrying about your health instead? Got no answer for that one.

I've found you're usually okay with sprays - nothing gets in or out of the can (hopefully) in that time. My old sprays needed a really long shake after about 4 years of no use but seemed to work just fine.

I think one of them had slowly leaked propellant over that time, because it ran out but still felt like there was some paint down in the bottom.

And I recommend testing spray paints of any kind on some spare sprue - I've found if the mixture is a little off, it will sometimes melt plastic and I can't bear to part with even my oldest unpainted miniatures.

Just make sure you shake it, baby.

Thanks, Mordheimer - I had the idea for those during the campaign and liked them so much I decided to keep them around. I almost printed some up as bumper stickers but the wife put the brakes on that - apparently advertising my nerdiness hurts our social life...

I pulled out a can of GW white basecoat spray after 11 years and used it. It worked great, no problems at all. I did test it first to be certain though.
