I am considering adding rubble, but I'm still not sure. I've found the best place for furniture is in barricades. I've put a couple together with chairs, overturned tables, etc. and will get pictures up soon. I think the removable rubble idea is a great one! That way you can push a heap of rubble into a house, but slide it aside as a model moves through (at half speed, of course). I am a fan of rubble as well. You might consider painting the interiors of a bunch of buildings in black - I was thinking about what would happen if a comet hit a medieval city and I came to the conclusion that the force of impact would cause quite the earthquake - toppling candles and lanterns and causing houses (and their furniture) to go up in flames. That's not even considering the shower of Chaos-tainted rocks blasting holes in everything. Great work, as usual, and thank you for the much-anticipated update!

| Yay, feedback! I've been busy after dinner. So I've got even more paint to show you... The latest statue. Old model, new head... This one still needs a Devlan Mud wash. The (sort of) finished quarter of the board... A close-up of the raised section with the stone statues... The rest of the stone statues to go with the board... Please let me know what you think... | |

| Oh my giddy aunt. Your main gaming table looks about the same size as the flat I've been renting. I need to f**king move house! And damn, having recognised the tomb out of Heroquest before hitting your comment on it, made me feel like an old dungeon veteran. On a serious note, you've done a bloody brilliant job on the table and even more praise must be heaped due to all your slog on customising three & four story buildings. The bell tower is my fave. It's fascinating how your commitment to the hobby has led you to bastardise Ikea furniture! Truly a noble act. I'm a bit late in finding this thread. Thanks Cianty for not mentioning it! It was pointed out to me by Carl Merrell who has been working on a load of custom buildings to go with my next gaming table. The reason I'm posting is you have canals! I want canals! Your table layout with the 'kinked' cross-road channel looks great and so I want reports of how it games. Where are your bridges man!? Hopefully it is not too late for you to start dumping a few corpses, crates and other jetsom into the water as decoration Boreas. Then presumably build up some tasty water effects. The use of Hirst molds was not something I was considering personally, however, my mate Chris Kneller (who helped me out on Mountains of Mourn feature board for the Border Town Burning campaign) is showing an interest in the molds. We'll have to see. The Citadel kit which provided those characterful statues sounds interesting. They are a lovely touch to the stonework. Barricades built from crates and barrels is something I'm already working on. They are a must-have practical inclusion. The thing that impresses me most *coughs* aside from your working gallows, is your commitment to table-top gaming from the perspective of being a roleplayer. The basic rules for playing Mordheim don't do it for me and my friends anymore. In our group we have roleplay nuts, table-top whores and a few CCG freaks! Cianty injected the game with a thrill for us introducing his objective system. Having translated a load of the fun elements from WFRP (2nd Ed) across to the Mordheim system myself, I would be really interested to hear any of your ideas on doing this for the urban setting which is taking over your loft or spare room. And canals, I'd love to see more waterfront detail. Regards, Werekin. | |

| Now that's some serious feedback! Thanks! I'll try and answer as much as possible (and to the best of my awesome abilities )... - Quote :

That's where it all started. Good old times... I remember, I was just a cute 8 year old boy... - Quote :

In regular games of Mordheim it makes for a somewhat static game as players tend to defend their quarter. So, we mostly played scenarios. However, in some scenarios it sometimes poses a problem, as you need to place an objective in the center of the board. But a solution is being worked at! Furthermore, it makes deploying much easier. During roleplay the canal and bridges work quite well. And with 40K (yes, we even used the board and ruins for a game of Cities of Death) they work just as well! You do need enough bridges. The first few games I just had a few, and it was quite easy to block the few passages that were available... In total I've built 10 bridges, at least four connecting each quarter. - Quote :
- Hopefully it is not too late for you to start dumping a few corpses, crates and other jetsom into the water as decoration Boreas. Then presumably build up some tasty water effects.
Aye, allready collected and prepared some stuff to clutter the canal with... The painting will get a few washes (browns and greens) and will be finished with multiple layers of gloss varnish to create some depth and a wet effect. - Quote :

The Hirst molds offer a level of uniformity and detail that would be difficult to achieve otherwise... Great stuff! - Quote :
- The thing that impresses me most *coughs* aside from your working gallows, is your commitment to table-top gaming from the perspective of being a roleplayer.
Well, the working gallows was just an experiment that came out right... As for the gaming, the guys in my gaming group all like to include some depth and background in their games. It doesn't matter if we play Fantasy, 40K or Mordheim. Roleplay just came naturally. It started with the dungeon (a project which has been going on for quite some time now) and when we started playing Mordheim, the board was soon the stage of some epic roleplaying... During the very first roleplay game we had on the board, I came up with the idea of working doors and shutters, as it would add so much to the game... - Quote :
- The basic rules for playing Mordheim don't do it for me and my friends anymore.
Same here, that's why we mixed Mordheim with WFRP... - Quote :

Well, we took the things we liked best about the two games. Basically we use the rules and freedom WFRP gives us and we included a modest warband. For this we used multiple charachters from our original Mordheim gangs. As you will know, after a few games you give nicknames to certain models, there are grudges to be kept, deeds of glory or infamy to be remembered... We didn't want to waste that. Our games can take up to several afternoons and/or evenings. Loads of testing, sneaking, combat and looting (oh, and fun!!!)! Yes, we designed a loot system with all kinds of stuff, from utterly useless to quite valuable... PM me for details and/or documents... As an aftertought, you might want to check out my thread on Warseer as it gives a complete view of the process. Thanks again for your great feedback! Feel free to ask more. Be sure to check back for further updates...

... Please tell me it's a raised building that spans all four quarters... that would really be something! You could also make a few "slabs" of cobblestones that can be placed over the canal when you don't want to use it in a game, though that wouldn't be quite as fun as a building right at the place where the canals intersect.

| Thank you for your great feedback. My answers must wait some time, because I want to do it justice and I lack the time at the moment (it's quite late and my wife beckons)... My buddy, FBI, just went home... We painted for a few hours (more talking then painting), nothing spectacular, but the base coat of the board is mostly finished. We had quite a bit of fun and a load of good ideas... For next week we agreed to play a game of roleplaying... And now some updates! New building to go in the center of the board... As you can see, it's far from finished, but I'm quite satisfied with the progress. I still need to add bridges, walls, floors, roof and pretty much everything else... You know a guy named Caesar? Well, I've just raided his palace again... The loot? A few new statues! The three at the front once served in my Empire army. Two of them are somewhat rare and belong amongst my most favorite models... I was kind of hesitant to 'promote' them to statue, but as FBI put it, they aren't going anywhere soon, so this seems quite fitting... This way they are at least being put to good use! While searching for new statues I found this at the bottom of one of my bits boxes... It once graced the front of my Steamtank but now it fits my belltower! I tried it on as kind of a joke, but we liked it so much that I glued it in place... Your feedback is greatly appreciated (I promise to get back at your feedback, just need the time...) | |

| VERY NICE, as usual - I'm especially impressed with the "central" building and it will look great with bridges connecting it to the quarters. Very nice solution to the problem!
I really like the "Golden Griffon" statue - I'm not sure about its placement on the belltower (I feel it would be better standing on a flat surface at the top of a church spire...).
Very impressive and inspiring stuff, as seems to be the norm for you.
Keep up the excellent work!

Thanks! I get your point, it looks a bit over the top... But, believe me, the griffon looks really cool up there. I know it doens't really work out in the picture, but when we put it up there it just had to stay! I'm quite happy with the central building, only if it's just the skeleton of the structure that is done... I still need to figure a way to place the bridges but I intend to connect it to all four quarters. See you soon with fresh updates...

| One question, is your board completly modular? rather.. is the "land" glued/attached to the canal's surface? I mean, you could make a regular rigid/wooden board painted as water-sewer... and make Modular "land" to go on top of the water board... that way you can choose to cover the entire the water board or leave canals by placing different size modules spread from each other. (err. yeah.. I think I'll do that for my board) ----------- Edit: And another question, Are you planning on building some sort of stairway to walk down to water level? it would be nice to have a way to decend. Maybe people used to go down the canals to wash their clothes (like people used to go to the river banks to bath and wash stuff, and hell.. in some countries they still do) ----------- I don't know if I explained myself with that.. o_O... I'm not thinking in English right now.. so If I didn't I might come back with some images to ilustrate the idea Rawr! | |

Think of it as a fitting tribute, a final salute to great miniatures who once served proudly in my Empire army... Most of them have seen several paintjobs. Sadly, my Empire army hasn't been used in quite some time and I do like the mini's to much to let them collect dust in a drawer or cabinet... - Quote :

Yes, the four quarters of the board are glued down... The materials and the type of construction both demanded for a solid foundation. Your solution is a very good one, even more so if you plan to use lighter materials... It will give you a lot of options. I believe there are pictures around somewhere on this forum of someone who built his board the same way you are planning to. - Quote :

Yes, that was part of the plan... I just haven't gotten to it yet. On two or three places I intend to include some form of walkway just above water level with stairs to street level. Thanks for your feedback! See you soon...

| Good shout Pirexian. Boreas won't be able to resist adding dilapidated jetties and those stairways to reach down to the waters edge. He is just lucky that he built the waterways wide enough to account for it. ;-)
I can see this terrain board getting a lot of use when it is finally completed in 2011. It will also be very relevant for the next big thing that is happening to the Mordheim game...
Regards,
Werekin. | |

Aye, that I am... I think it's a good idea to add some walkways below streetlevel. Maybe even a privy, something I've been meaning to include for a long time... - Quote :

It's seeing a lot of use even though it isn't finished. The next big thing that is happening to Mordheim? Do you know something that I don't??? Is the game getting re-done?
The walkways are getting some attention soon. I just need to figure out where to put them. Most likely I won't glue them to the board, so I can move or remove them, much like the bridges. Maybe it's even possible to link them to the bridges... So much to decide... Something I've been working on yesterday is a fountain. I's going to be a rather big construction, including a statue (now there's a surprise). Something I find difficult to decide, should the fountain have water? I think it should, but I would like to hear what you think... I hope to post some pics of the fountain sometime today...

| As promised, a fresh update with pictures! Got the idea of a fountain yesterday and, after some planning and thinking, started building this morning. A view from above, showing the cross shaped base of the fountain... View of the fountain, including a new statue. The pegasus once belonged to Balthasar Gelt, the body is from the plastic Empire General kit and the head is from the Empire Knights... A close-up of the 'sprayers' (don't know if that's the correct word). The mouths/heads are from the Chaos Land Raider and are meant to be used as Lascannon detail... I think I'll add some water; a jet from each of the sprayers and a layer at the bottom of the fountain. I still would like to hear your opinion on the water! I also treated my board (the two remaining sections) to some more grey paint, trying to mask all of those pesky white spots... The board is nearing completion! | |

| And another update... Paint on the fountain... And a few shots of the board. I've already set things up for the game of next tuesday. It's quite nice to see how the board is turning out. It's not to crowded but it has a good city feel nonetheless... Maybe there is still space left for another building... The fountain is a good addition to the board as it creates an open space between the tall buildings. | |

| Every time you post an update you make me look like a little child in a candy shop or toy store... Your board is astonishing.. you are right it's not that crowded with buildings, but considering most of the buildings are so detailed and have several storages (I can see at least three or more), it opens up great maneuver possibilities and awesome sniping posts. It really looks like a city, all the buildings are coherent with each other, they really look like they belong to a same style, they are part of a whole... it's just amazing. Remember, that any child gets addicted with candy want more! | |

Not water.... blood. With mutant fish. P.S. Water would be fine, but I think it's time to get some REALLY weird stuff on this table and a fountain of blood with piranhas would do that nicely, I think.
