| I like all the hired swords from Fanatic 94, and the beggar especially feels like a perfect fit for my Marienburgers. I can't get over how he's pretty much a no-brainer choice for just about anyone who's not actively trying to desperately keep their rating bottomed out though, so I want to make the extra income he generates less than a sure thing. I don't know if I'm going overboard here, but here's what I'm thinking. His current special rules: - Quote :
- Scrounge: Such is the Beggar's skill at scrounging through the
ruins of Mordheim, at the end of each battle that the Beggar was not put out of action, he adds an extra die of exploration to your pool.
Not a Threat: as a Beggar proves hardly a threat to any true warrior, warbands may ignore Beggar for purposes of shooting at the nearest target and charging another enemy within 2” of the Beggar. My suggested addition: - Quote :
- Coward: You don't survive on your own in the City of the Damned by being brave. If the Beggar starts his turn with no friendly models within 6", he needs to take an All Alone test. If this takes him off the table, he counts as Out of Action.
That might do it. You can no longer hide him off in a corner of your deployment zone and reap the post-battle benefits no matter what happens on the field. I'm itching to add this bit as well though: - Quote :
- When the Beggar is reduced to 0 Wounds, don't roll for injury. Instead, just take him Out of Action immediately. This malnourished and cravenly creature will take the first chance he gets to hug the ground and not move a muscle until the dust clears.
Maybe give him another skill table for the trouble. He can only choose speed skills at the moment. I figure if you're healthy enough to sprint, you're probably healthy enough for strength skills as well. It's a 10g investment to grab a new beggar. He's pretty much guaranteed to earn you back at least that much if he survives the match. Even if he's taken out but rolls 3+, it's a 5g upkeep. If you like finding cool stuff when exploring, you'll want to keep him around just for the offchance you get that extra dice once in awhile. Even if he only survives like 1 out of 5 matches it's probably a sound investment. Thoughts? I always feel like such a powergamer when re/designing something specifically for inclusion in one of my own warbands!

| Unless I am terribly mistaken, Ethlorien wrote these HS and since he's on here as well, he might comment and approve of these changes... | |

| PM'd him, no reaction so far. I will buy your opinions on making the beggar less than a no-brainer choice with pictures of painted miniatures, k? kk. | |

| Hey FKSN, Sorry it took me awhile to get back - I have so little time these days, my birthday was the last time I even had a chance to get on the forums. Looking it over, I like the coward bit you added. Me, I'm too straight forward a guy to think of hiding the beggar at the edge of the game, hench why never thought of it like free money. But certainly, it's a good idea. As for the second bit - add it if you want, I don't know how necessary it is. I'm a big believer in making the game your own though, so tweak away until you're happy with it! Daniel PS - Love the mini! | |

| Maybe his upkeep should just be d6 gc per hero in your warband, representing his begging. | |

| The miniature is a Damned Rank & File from Helldorado.
I love the variable upkeep idea. I'm thinking more like 1d3/hero though.. that's 6-18 if you have a full stable of heroes. Still feels totally worth it, especially if combined with some other post-battle shenanigans like rerolls and +/-1 modifiers.
