| ok, i'm begging to be bother by this problem. years ago i played mordheim with out much though and planning. now that i'm back into it, i'm more interesting in dissecting equipment, warriors and stratagy. playing my freinds have been no problem, because we converse on a regular basis and are used to each other. here's my problem when we try to play people from other groups, or go online to find matches and warband rosters and builds. we constantly find people who have drastically different point totals and GC costs. are they just using out of date rules? updated rules we dont know about? or are they trying to get away with cheating? like a guy we were talking to at a GW store, we were looking at his warbands and rosters. one of his warbands caught my eye and i did a quick count, he had printed (501gc) total cost.....when in reality the cost for his group was (533gc) total. i didnt mention anything to him because i didnt want to get into it with a stranger that might play mordheim with us. but these kinds of mistakes are all over. whats the deal? everybody has all kinds of excuses for the differences....what do you think? am i wrong in being slightly peaved at people? i dunnnnnnoooooooo lol | |

| No, there have been no changes in costings in Mordheim. It has never been touched since the game started. People cheat and it is too bad. Sometimes there are honest mistakes in adding up stuff. I use a calculator for mine and I have made some mistakes. You will find the same thing in Warhammer Fantasy or 40K, there are those that "shave" points off. If that is the only way they feel they can have fun or win that shame on them. | |

| The only cost thing I can think if is dealing with the Orcs and I believe that was more to do with that they can get clubs and club pricing is all the same. There are no differences anywhere that I know of for weapons. | |

| Can't go wrong with army builder. At least, not without being extra sneaky.
On a related note, whenever I've played in campaigns, rosters had to be updated after a battle and resubmitted to the DM. He would update your penciled in changes on his master army builder roster and print you a new roster which you would receive at the start of your next game.
Otherwise, you can suggest a friendly "cheat check" whereby you exchange rosters with an opponent and check each others math.

| My suggestion would be for you to ask your opponent to check over your list for mistakes, and ask if you can do the same to his. Then it becomes a mutual thing that each of you will benefit from in the long run. It also allows each person a chance to ask questions about each other's warbands, which I think is invaluable. | |

| @tux--Its your rant and I'm sure you have good cause, however I would caution against the cry "cheater!" I have run a Mordheim campaign of one sort or another for the last eight years and I have seen a lot of lists and a lot of personalities. Most people I have encountered are trying to play by the rules, however just what the rules are is sometimes hard to clarify given the 'living' quality of those rules.
Although the cost of basic equipment is almost always the same there are several pitfalls for players to encounter when writing their starting lists and during the campaign. For example: -Some warbands have special costs for some items if purchased 'at start'. Dwarfs happen to be one of these. Cianty was just commenting on this on another thread. Is it possible that in your example the Dwarf warband had purchased a discounted item? -Some warbands have different versions with different costs for the same warrior or piece of special equipment. Kislev is a prime example of this. --Some campaign settings have different cost values for equipment than the basic Mordhiem rules. This is usually for rare items but it does exist in Lustria and RotC. New players often have a hard time differentiating between all the various rules available. They also have a huge challenge to separate the experimental rule from the 'official', especially if the experimental seems a good deal. --Some optional rules offer discounts on equipment in return for a disadvantage for use, i.e., Gunpowder weapons.
Claiming that a conscientious player will find out what the rule is assumes that the player is aware of the possibility of an error. The first time I played Kislev I was unaware that there was an updated version of the TC list. Also informing a player that a more 'official' version of his list exists is not as helpful as having a hard copy on hand to show. As someone to whom web addresses are gibberish, I am constantly not helped by referrals to something, something.com given verbally.
I meet many players that play a game they call Mordheim that differs hugely from the game I play by that name. Once we establish that fact the rest of our discussion usually depends on how flexible we both are and our respective knowledge of the basic rulebook.
Finally there is the poor at math, distracted and or rushed player. The object is to play a game amid all the distractions and demands that life places on us. Giving people a bit of slack will not ruin your game. (Playtable reminds me of this once or twice a week, I may learn it eventually...)
End of rambling rant. js
