Squid Hoppers!

Like Lee, I am taking part in the Flame On Gauntlet (see Blessed Knight's May Gauntlet thread)

I gave the group four choices of what I should work on this month and they voted:



All things I wanted to add to my Pirate Orc army, especially the Squig-types (which is why there are two types!)

Squid Hoppers won it, so I got to work with some Tyranid Spore Mines and Orc heads:



Then I added some tentacles:



And then more tentacles and the beginnings of their bodies:



I've got as far as suckers and fins on one of them:





The Pirate Goblin riders will follow as soon as the squid themselves are finished - watch this space!

Those should be outright comedy once their finished! What are you thinking of painting them like? Hopefully once it's painted the orc faces won't be recognizable, apart from that it's a quality idea and I look forward to seeing some crazy gobbos clinging on to their backs.

These aren't just Squid, they are mutant Squig/Squid hybrids. So I don't mind if they look a bit Orcy - Squigs are part of the Orc ecology (Orcology?) after all.

I'm thinking a nice bright Squiggy red. :cherry:

By George, YOU'VE DONE IT AGAIN! Those are HILARIOUS! I caught the first stages on the Flame On Forum; they were strange, but cool then. NOW they're among the most imaginative if NUTS pieces you've come up with. You're maintaining your position as my hero nicely. WELL DONE!

Hakbarr has a really stern little face, dishing out the orders from his squishy perch. Maybe add reigns? Or some way of clinging to/directing the squids?

I did a little more work on Hackbarr's hat to make it taller at the front:

AAAAARRRGGH! The Kalamari Krew ARE really shaping up. Hackbarr's bigger hat looks good...you MIGHT consider making it EVEN bigger for a TRULY impressively silly looking mini. GREAT WORK...keep it up!

@Magnolia: I must have the worst box of common goblins they ever made - a true "Friday Job". There is so much flash and so many mold lines you wouldn't believe it. I have spent ages cleaning these gitz up.

Ack! You could compare it to sort of OCD behavior, like rounding numbers up to the nearest ten when adjusting volume. Yet for me mould lines are the enemy, I think if I missed one I'd have to scrape the paint off and get it.

at our local club I and 2 others run an actual mold line inquisition! don't you dare defend them or face our just vengeance!

Generally, if I don't notice a mold line before painting, I paint it like it's SUPPOSED to be there.

LOL, I'm with the majority on this one: is I miss a mold-line I put the mini in the bottom of a figure-case for ever and ever.
