| I've got some Mordheim terrain I want to build and I'm visiting Hobbycraft (massive chain shop that sells all sorts of awesome hobby supplies) tomorrow. Just wondering what should be on my shopping list for key items that you can't really build terrain without...
...So far I'm thinking foamcore, pink foam, acrylic paints, PVA glue
What else? | |

| oh yeah sandy/gravelly bits definitely, especially for what I'll be making (it's a secret by the way ). I'm not massively keen on flock though, especially compared to static grass but I might have to take a look at those molds! | |

| i prefer unibond - no more nails to glue gun, it lasts longer and is better as youc an smeer it on to add texture to the walls in parts _________________ | |

| My preffered glue is UHU, it's got great gap-filling qualitys. You can't get insulation-foam her either. (Actually you can, but only up to 3CM thick and corrugated...) | |

Of course you can find this in NL! I am 100% sure. Dutch people have to insulate their houses just like everyone else So there certainly is pink foam available. Ask our dutch forumites where they get theirs! (Matt, Tagnator, Ezekiel... from the top of my head). _________________

| Pink, blue, or white foam is Extruded Polystyrene. If it's use for insulation purposes*, it will have an "R" rating; the higher the rating, the denser the foam. The pink variety has an "R" rating of 5 for a 1" thinkness. If you've got $s to spare. a hot wire tool is a WONDERFUL piece of hardware to get. * REALLY dense foam isn't used for insulation; it's use for stuff like automotive body work. Addendum: a GREAT filler/ texture material is Woodland Scenics Foam Putty [available at model railroad shops]. It has the same properties as the foam it's applied to; ergo it will work the same. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! | |

| Awesome, I think we've got some no-more nails around my house somewhere (one of the benefits of being at home in the holidays!). How many of you base your buildings and what do you base them on if you do? | |

I tend to base my buildings but only with a discrete small base. I tend to avoid big WHFB-style bases for my mordheim scenery. Also I like to keep the bases square instead of round/oval. As for the matierial, foamcore is good (that's what I use). More expensive, and harder to work with is wood, but is the ideal basing material in terms of durability and solidity. _________________

| pink foam is availiable in the UK in B&Q Stores. (a DIY chain) its £20 for 4 sheets 1200 x 500 x 60mm. usually kept in the timber yard section.
I also grab fruit boxes from supermarkets when i'm terrain building. comes in handy for walls etc.
I some cases its possible to get free balsa wood crates too.
warbosskurgan may be able to help with Bristol based supplies as he used to live down in that area if i remember correctly.

Some constructions are flimsy and a base helps secure them. others use bases to add weight so that the building does not get bumped. others use them for rubble piles and more details which can add a lovely extra to some buildings. the main one would be the extra stability _________________

| My buildings are stable. And rubble piles are just bases on their own, and if left unatached can be moved around. | |

| I base my buildings on 12" squares of hard board. All my buildings are built 1 1/2" inches from the edge. This gives me nice alley ways and spaces to fill with rubble piles and such. | |

Suppose it depends on how the buildings are designed, a building with 3 sides with no base would depend on the next floor up to see if it would bend slightly or not. half of 1, 50% of the other seems depending on how their constructed. _________________

| I tend to use a standard foot-print base, which fits into slots in my paving stones making the pieces interchangeable. On REALLY tall buildings [I LOVE Tall Buildings ] , particularly those with overhanging thingys, having a base supplies a bit more stability to the structure. For a basing material I use Fan Foam 3/8". | |
