| Hey cianty, as Ogres are Large creatures, do they add +20 points each to the warband rating instead of the usual 5? | |

| Each of your heroes and henchmen adds +5 to the rating per model. Large models add a further +20 per model.
Remember that Youngblood and Half-growns do not count as large models.

Actually this is an imporant point. It seems that some people seem to think that the +20 for large creatures replaces the +5 for warband members. Unless I've been playing it wrong for all those years (which is possible of course!), the +20 is in addition to the normal rating. So a rat ogre does count as a usual warband member and is factored in for the number of models like any other model and then the additional +20 is added to it. You can see the different rows for this clearly on the warband roster sheet, indicating that this is in addition and no replacement effect (oops, resorting to magic language).

Oh, I didn't know that. Thanks for clarification!

| Actually, I think the wording in the rule book is intended to be understood as the twenty points for large creatures replacing the five points for ordinary warband members. It says: - Quote :
- The warband rating is simply the number of warriors in it multiplied by 5, plus their accumulated experince.
Large creatures such as Rat Ogres are worth 20 points plus the number of Experince points they have accumulated. Is there a FAQ on this anywhere, or an official example of a warband rating calculation which includes a large creature.

| I have also read it as the +20 replacing the +5. That is how it is written and that is how I have always seen it played. | |

| Funny. Alright then. But I don't think it is explicitly written to replace the +5. I would want to see this sentence worded as either...
"Large creatures such as Rat Ogres are worth 20 points plus the number of Experince points they have accumulated instead."
or
"The warband rating is simply the number of warriors in it multiplied by 5, plus their accumulated experince. Large creatures such as Rat Ogres add +15 points plus the number of Experince points they have accumulated."
I always found it clear that the second was closer to the correct interpretation of the what is meant. That is probably because of how it is written on the warband roster where you first multiply members (all!) with 5 and then add the +20 per large creature. Not including large members in the first calculation does not seem inuitive at all. This has also to do with Experience being added to the rating and the additonal rating from Hired Swords. This all made it intimating for me to add +20 per large creature and not effectively +15 (since the model would be included in the number of total models).
Anyways, from now on I will be adding +15 only if that is what is correct. (Not that I ever buy Minotaurs, Trolls or other useless large monsters)

| to make rat ogres/trolls useful they need, IMO:
to add 20 total (15 + 5) to rating
to roll on the heroes' serious injury chart

| Hmm...
I think I'd still prefer death on a roll of 1 instead of 1-2 instead, because the Heroes's effects don't work that well with the stupid Monsters (stupidity, frenzy, [would this be negated by immune to psychology?] extra exp). The effects are geared towards Heroes so find it more apropriate to imrpove their Henchmen Injuries instead. I guess at this point it comes down to the designers' preferences where you can go either way.
The Troll seems okay though since he doesn't die..
Anyways, don't want to derail this thread.. There already is a thread for this discussion

| The calculation wording quoted above would indicate a 15 point 'loading' for big guys would be applied. It hasn't been made crystal clear by any measure. Whatever the loading is confirmed to be, it should be applied to all models that count as being large models. This condition does not apply to all Hero & Henchmen types in the Maneaters warband, as you will see when you read the publication. Regarding the seperate note... You just gotta love it when a Skaven player rolls a 1-2 for his OOA Rat Ogre. Regards, Stuart. B-) | |

| cianty: only dying of a D6 of 1 is also good but it is ~ 17% chance of death whereas the D66 measure is ~11% at 200gc, i prefer 11% but eigther could work of course, if a monster would gain something like +1 xp that would just be disregarded as it says: does not gain experience a rat ogre with an arm injury is cool though or a pit fight | |
