Hi everybody

We just finished another interesting game in our campaign and a question about the promotion rules came up.

The dwarves had a close game with a bunch of skavens, and ended up winning the game.

As we checked for skill rolls the dwarves had a thunderer promoted - as he only had three heroes for the game due to an injured troll slayer he only had four exploration dice since he won the game. The rules state you roll for XP increases (and there gets promoted) before you roll for exploration

As we rolled the skill increases the thunderer got promoted - we decided, that he should be allowed to roll another exploration dice for the new hero, as he was not taken out of action (he only had one thunderer in the group) - my question is simple - was this right or wrong? (it did give him an extra shard)

Because of the post-game sequence, that's the way we've always played it, AlexBware. You roll for experience before exploration, so if you get an extra hero, you get an extra exploration dice. Another reason why the Lad's got Talent rule is so good!

Of course, that's just the way OUR group plays it - maybe you'll get some conflicting answers. I hope not, though!

You roll for promotions (and promote dudes) before the exploration roll. So when you roll the exploration roll the thiunderer is already a hero. So he rolls dice as a hero. After all, as you said, the guy "got something in him": maybe a knack to find wyrdstone? Wink

I see it the opposite way as he was not a hero at the beginning of the game.

Roll a D6 for each Hero in your warband who survives
without going out of action. This represents the
warband’s efforts to unearth wyrdstone. Do not roll
for any Heroes who went out of action during the
battle; they are taken back to the warband’s
encampment to recuperate instead. So, for example,
if your warband includes four Heroes who all survived
the last battle, you can roll four dice. If you won your
last game, you may roll one extra dice. Add the results
of the dice together and consult the Exploration chart
to see how many shards of wyrdstone your warband
has found.

I agree that you should be allowed to roll an extra expoloration dice. The warrior survied without going OOA, and is now a hero. I see it the same as getting the academic skills and then using them in the following exploration and trading phases.
